@B_STATS @ollie_sr @Master_Adeum "You definitely will have the software capability to turn off all the capabilities of Kinect. We want to put the gamer in control. And privacy. The box data information that collects is your data; it stays with you. You are in control of what you want to be collected. Game developers will obviously enable certain features and you'll be alerted when certain things are happening. Putting the gamer in control is really important." -- Phil Spencer
"The Xbox One launches later this year. Microsoft will ship 15 exclusive titles for the platform during its first 12 months. Eight of these games will be all-new franchises."You all realize that since they already announced the TV features, they are going to focus on games at E3 right? How do you expect them to reveal all the features in one hour? This event was directed to the biggest and most broad audience. It's on SPIKE tv, they focused on sports, Call of Duty, TV, and yes.. Dogs. Everyone likes dogs. So you can expect Microsoft to focus on the games at E3 because they can't show all this stuff AGAIN. There's no point. So what am I really saying? Just wait. Chill out. This extreme pessimism will destroy the industry.
Lets get real, guys. We don't know whether it'll be different or not. They claim that it's a new engine, and they're taking a new approach with the series, but what does that mean? We don't know. No one does. Why do you want CoD to fail? Don't you want them to change? Don't you want something different? Something really interesting? You people will kill the industry with this exaggerated pessimism. Lighten up. Be open to new things. Stop being assholes.
At first I was worried because the great thing about Conviction was that it was clear when you were hidden and when you were not. You we're either good in the dark, or out in the light. I didn't notice that when the light on his back is green, you're in the shadows. I like it! :)
@Lpedraja2002 @ollie_sr You know what. On second thought. I don't fuckin know. Neither does anyone really. Regardless, I'm sure you are at least curious of how this will turn out. As am I. At the end of the day, when it comes out, we'll see if it runs games well or not. I'm not necessarily defending it, I just wanted to clear up some misconceptions. Have a good day, sir :)
@Lpedraja2002 @ollie_sr He says in this video that this will ship with a modified version of Windows. There's a lot of processes and applications that run on Windows normally that you don't need to play games, and it seems like they're going to take that all out. Since all those unnecessary processes and applications are out, games will run better than they normally would on a normal PC.
You missed a lot of my points and a lot of what Peter was saying. He's not saying this console will be able to offer licensed games at launch. They're trying, but that's not the main selling point. It's an ideal future.
"But you will allow people, legally, to play Mario games?"
"We're not saying that either. We're saying that it can be done."
The Piston is simply this: the smallest, lowest voltage, dedicated gaming PC. This is why it's worth the price: You won't find another PC that is this small and uses that low amount of voltage. Smaller products are expensive because they're more expensive to mass produce.
Also keep in mind that even if you built a PC with identical specs, it would still run better on Piston because the Windows variant they're using doesn't do anything else except play games. The Piston is dedicating more of its resources to playing games, and not on other background processes.
And yes, on the side, you also have the choice to run whatever OS you want. It is still essentially a computer, and they're not keeping it closed it by any means.
This is an unfortunately titled video. This is less about the Piston and more about what the future the Piston could potentially bring. This is making people lose focus of what this really is: A dedicated PC gaming system.
I'd say the price is quite fair. You're not going to see another PC rig that is that small, uses that amount of voltage, and is dedicated for gaming.
When you buy a standard computer with Windows, that machine is using its resources for many other functions. Since this system is dedicated to gaming, it will ideally run games better than a traditional PC with the same specs.
If the rumors are true, this will basically be a Steam Box. A console that just runs Steam. Piston has many other goals in mind for the future of the console market. But for now, all we know is that they have partnerships which they aren't officially announcing, and hopefully Valve ends up being one of them.
