@pezzott1 I'm almost certain Infinity Ward wrote their own engine for CoD2 and have been highly modifying THAT engine since. The only game Infinity Ward used the Quake 3 engine for was CoD1.
As of right now, I get the impression that not many game devs seem interested in making games for this platform. That's why I believe the system will fail. Bottom line: No games? No sale.
@Erebus You're looking at this situation 2 dimensionally. (See what I did there *zing*) It's not always about the money. Playing games on the console is a different experience from playing on PC no matter what minor changes you might be able to make. On paper it would totally make sense for him to put it on Steam, but Phil really did want this game to feel relaxing, passive, and yes.. a couch experience. He made a strong artistic choice to keep it on the console. There are no technical limitations to this decision, but there is a personal reason to keep it on the xbox. I respect his decision.
Phil doesn't want to make Fez for PC. He explained that he wanted Fez to be a console experience. What he's saying is that Fez is not on Steam, and thus, it's not easy compared to developing for XBLA. He's not regretting not putting it on Steam. He's just saying that this is the way things have to be given the circumstances.
Great journalism. Truly GREAT journalism. It's a great argument and well fought on both sides. I wish I saw more things like this. Well done, Tom McShea!
If Call of Duty had dedicated servers, it would cost billions of dollars. They're not doing it. Realistically compare the graphics from Black Ops to Black Ops II. It looks significantly better. Stop looking for things to complain about and look at the game realistically. It's going to be a great game with a lot of variety.
