@theSFfan_1 @ollie_sr When I refer to the marketing reality, I mean the fact that these companies have to pitch games to investors and players that you're going to sell copies. The way tomb raider gets a pass is because investors will put their money behind an established franchise that has done well in the past, and it's likely people will buy the game. That's what this comes down to. Sales. Publishers not having female protagonists is not a statement to put down women.
@DarkFrankhs @ollie_sr If this were an indie game, absolutely not. But with such a mainstream publisher with millions of dollars the company could potentially lose, I probably wouldn't have a choice, you know?
I don't think the publishers are sexist. I think when they see the numbers of how their games sell with a female protagonist as opposed to a male protagonist, they would rather make games with male protagonists because it generally sells more copies. We can't really say unless we have all the statistics and surveys, though. But it's extremely unlikely that all game publishers are sexist. It's just a marketing reality.
If you don't understand why people buy apple products, then you should figure it out yourself. Clearly there's an appeal, right? See it from their point of view. There is a definite reason why millions of people buy iPads.
