Actually, most of the public don't realize that the Wii U is a new console instead of a peripheral. When the system debuted, even CNN said the Wii U was a peripheral. So casual gamers which overwhelmingly bought the Wii thought it wasn't a new console and only the hardcore fanboys that Nintendo alienated for the past decade bought it. The fanboys are the ones who create the word of mouth and there is nothing to get excited about.
Activision has a point. If the game makes a ton of money every year then why stop. That's like saying Apple should stop releasing ipads or iphones every year. Fanboys will just continue to buy it.
