if the team that worked on AC3 for 3 years is not doing AC4, than it opens up the possibility that AC4 has been worked on for a number of years as well.
If this is true, than I would be more than happy to have a new AC this fall. But if AC4 has only been worked on for a year, than no. Give it a break, Ubisoft.
Also, even IF AC4 has been worked on for say 3 years, I don't know if they should release it this fall. I feel like the closing of Desmond's narrative and bringing in and finishing Connor's story in one game was a rather definitive close to the series for this generation. The new engine, graphics, and animations for AC3 impressed me but not as much as they maybe could have. Perhaps it would be better to wait and, as this article opened with, start with a clean slate.
Not only would there be a new "modern" character, a new ancestor, and a new setting. it stands to reason that much of the animation will also be new, and that all of this should REALLY show what the AnvilNext engine can do on the next Xbox/PS systems. That would be my wish.
And therefore, if that were to be the case, I would further stand to reason that the next AC will NOT be on new consoles if were to be released this year, simply because I doubt Ubi has had enough time with dev kits to really make the most out of it. Then again, AC3 was a Wii U launch title and they did that fairly quickly. We'll see.
After AC3 wrapped up that story arc it's no surprise we won't get any more Connor and I'm not unhappy about it.
What worries me though is this:
AC Brotherhood and Revelations could make yearly releases because they were in essence really really big expansions on AC2.
AC3 came out a year after Revelations bc it had been worked on for 3 years...
If AC4 comes out, with a very new plot and all new characters (modern/ancestral) in a new time period with new gameplay (given that Altair, Ezio and Connor all moved and played differently), isn't a year a little to quick for that to come out?
If they JUST wrapped up AC3 a few months ago, MAYBE half a year ago, just how fast are they pumping out this next entry?
I can't imagine this next one being less of a major entry than AC1, 2 or 3.
Unless they are making a spinoff for 3DS/Vita, or I suppose 360/ps3.
But if they release a spinoff with another character a la AC3 Liberation on the consoles, then Ubi is going a little too far with the cash grab.
I'd rather wait another 2 years or even 3, and see a fully fleshed out AC4 on next gen consoles.
@XanderZane @punkdsk8erdude ooh ok, i didn't realize that. i thought that Sony invented it and had the rights to it. I know other companies make bluray players i guess i just always thought royalties went to Sony. but good, in that case i'm glad because the next xbox should absolutely have bluray.
if xbox is using bluray, microsoft would have to pay royalties to their rival, sony, for the use of the technology.
do you think this is actually the case? it wouldn't hurt microsoft customers to get 50gb discs and bluray functionality (i dont own a bluray player) but it would take profit from microsoft and put it in the hands of sony, even if it is a relatively low amount per console.
on the other i hope to god the rumors about constant internet connection and activation codes are extremely false. otherwise i will not be buying it, plain and simple.
The four symbols before the PS logo was the main content of the trailer...and isn't it oh so conveniently the four face buttons. Four is the key word here.
Looking forward to this, much sooner than I anticipated. Hopefully we'll see some really impressive trailers and tech demos of next gen games.
i'm hoping for a return to something more along the lines of Super Mario 64 which means a few things to me:
1. Not Galaxy 3 (overkill for me, we need a fresh theme)
2. Return of a larger over world: No small space station or mario head 'spaceship'....I want a bigger world to explore with stuff to do in it, and sections to unlock as you progress the way 64 did it with the castle & the way sunshine did it with delfino isle. Some sort of open world to explore & interact with would be great.
3. New gameplay: 64 was obviously a complete revolution. Sunshine expanded on that. Galaxy expanded on that. More expansion...NEW power ups! Sunshine had FLUDD and different nozzles, and yoshi. Galaxy 1 & 2 had cool hat power ups & gravity based levels...We need new power ups and new level designs. I'm not worried about that though.
4. A somewhat better story. Honestly Mario 64 was just classic, save peach from bowser who took over the castle, but it worked beautifully. Sunshine's story was actually somewhat interesting involving a larger cast, the isle residents, and more than just simply peach being kidnapped. Give me a little bit more reason to explore the world and play through the levels. Give incentive to get more than the minimum required stars too. I felt like in the galaxy games there wasn't too much incentive & i simply beat them with the required stars.
after today's nintendo direct announcement concerning the much awaited big Nintendo titles....Zelda, Mario, etc....it looks like I will probably pick up a Wii U by the end of 2013.
As far as all of the rumours circulating about PS4 and Xbox 720, I'm really uncertain what the future will hold for both companies. In my mind the 360 is the better overall console to own this gen, and it is the one I own, but PS3 does have it's pros.
It sounds like many of the rumors regarding these consoles are similar. There is a lot to consider this next gen; pricing, technical ability, online services (XBL vs PSN, I'm sick of paying for XBL gold), social networking (being paved by the Miiverse, I foresee Xbox/PS4 following something similar, as suggested by the 'share' button on the supposed PS4 controller...), games (exclusives but also performance of multi platform), etc.
My initial thought about a year or two ago would be that I would pick up the next xbox, but now that I weigh the odds after owning a 360 for 7 years & my brother owning a PS3, I'm not so certain I will simply 'stick to what i know' and I'll have to peak what Sony has to offer for sure.
The next gen of Kinect, bluray support, and controllers will also play a huge factor. If the next kinect is truly well implemented and integrated, and used in an intuitive and fun way, it may sway me. But if the next xbox doesn't support bluray (which it probably wont) it may affect the decision. If either the next xbox controller or ps4 controller offers something new or innovative (a la Wii U) it may sway me. If PS4 supports backwards compatibility it will open up a back catalog of PS3 exclusives i've never owned or played, and that may sway me. If the next xbox doesn't include backwards compatibility it may sway me, because I have an original '05 xbox 360 and sometimes i worry about the old girl running...there is a lot to consider.
I'm just uncertain what will happen this next gen, it's a very exciting time for a console gamer though. Can't wait till E3 this year.
ok...as an unashamed admittedly console-only gamer with only the most basic idea of what was just said in this article....can someone please explain what all this tech-talk translates to in terms of performance?
