FF is also going to "fall hard' being that it has probably one of the worst fanbase out there.
Yeah this.
Also despite the fact I loathe FFXIII I will never undertand how people can like Tidus and Vaan more than Lightning.
@jg4xchamp: Those companies are subsidiaries of a japanese company. It's like saying something isn't japanese made because a japanese citizen happened to be white.
Also just the demo from 15 is better than most western games. Hit the showers, you're kicked off the team.
And the demo is garbage too. Limp dick game feel, no real nuance or tactics to the battle system, a summon system that is basically your get out of an asswhipping free card, oh yeah 4 characters that are well on their way to have a shitty script with questionable voice acting.
Mate I don't even like a lot of triple A western games, and I'd still take Rockstar's pretentious tripe over what I've gotten out of the FF15 demo.
Square already stated that Episode Duscae was meant to show just the very bare basics of the combat system and they have also stated that summoning would not work in the final game the same way it did on the demo. After all it was a demo of a game that was almost 2 years away from release. Most of the combat system was not ready at that point. Episode Duscae was basically something they released to gather feedback. Also I did not know that Kingdom Hearts 3 and Nier Automata were western games.
lol putting any JRPG against Witcher 3.
Well for starters Chrono Trigger has much better combat mechanics then any Witcher game ever had. Even though The Witcher 3 is indeed a great game, its insanely overrated. There is absolutely no way it is the best wrpg of all time. As for Chrono Trigger, even though for me personally it is far from being the best JRPG ever I can understand why it is for some peop
What is there to believe ? Even though its true that the Witcher series has improved their combat mechanics with each game, the witcher 3 still has very shallow combat mechanics with very little variety and options. You can literally beat everything in the game by just mindlessly using quen sign and spamming fast attack.
Holy shit, what the hell? TW3 is leading? I did not expect this
It really is not suprising , most people in System wars most likely did not even touch Chorno Trigger. It is very clear from the "best wrpg ever" poll that most people here started playing videogames very recently.

Hahahaha. Mass effect 2 is number 2? Seeing the results makes it very easy to understand why gaming is such a pile of garbage nowadays.
@jhcho2: Yes western games had more depth in terms of gameplay in the past but that is not true nowadays if you consider that games like Mass effect, Uncharted, Gears of war or Call of Duty dominated the western market since the 360 era. Those games could not be more shallow or simplistic even if they tried. Also saying that Japanese games are the same as 15 years ago is absolutely ridiculous. The only kind of games that are really lazy, repetitive and un-innovative are these "cinematic" shooters that the west keeps releasing.
There will always be games that ditch depth in favour of a more action oriented approach. Nevertheless, you can't deny that Mass effect, Uncharted, Gears of war and Call of Duty are games with huge development budgets and high production values, far above most Japanese games. So even if they weren't deeper, they sure look and play better than most Japanese games, and contribute to the stark contrast between the two.
The thing is that it was those kind of games why western games gained so much popularity. Do they look better from a graphical stand point then most japanese games ? Sure. But do they actually play better? The answer to that is no. That goes specially to those cover based third person shooters that are basically whack a mole mini games.
When we look back in the past 8 years, how many Japanese games can we say defined the last generation?
Nintendo games aside, only Metal Gear Solid, Bayonetta and Souls games come to mind. And there's a reason why Kojima, From Software and Platinum Games have the reputation they do - because they stand out. Square Enix's games have been in a decline for some time now. Capcom games are no different.
The fact they defined a generation means nothing because it does not mean they did it for the better. For example, Gears of war defined a generation but it did so for the worse as it turned third person shooters into whack a mole games, the same goes for Mass effect as it dumbed down WRPGs to a ridiculous degree. They defined a generation because they were popular and using popularity to justify their quality is the very definition of an ad populum fallacy.
