[QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="latinrage69"][QUOTE="ramey70"][QUOTE="latinrage69"][QUOTE="-supercharged-"][QUOTE="Chris-Hansen"][QUOTE="Dreams-Visions"][QUOTE="-supercharged-"]I still think M$ should release a Blu-Ray drive for the 360. tango90101
expect it, should the situation warrant it.
if they want their fans to enjoy spider man 3 or pirates in HD they will release it :PIf they are really about giving their customers "choice" like they say they do they will release it.
while ms is all about giving people a choice in xbox 360, they have a vested interest in hd dvd. why would they go and kill off something that could potentially make them billions of dollars just to offer a blu-ray player that, just like hd dvd, has a 50% chance of failure and that wont make them a ton of money (because thy have no stock in the survival or victory of bd).
How would HD-DVD make Microsoft "billions" of dollars? They don't hold the patents or royalty rights to it.
they are a founding member and on of the creators of the VC-1 codec used in both hd dvd and bd (hd dvd is more prevailent as it's used in every hd dvd, bd uses mpeg 2 and mpeg 4/AVC or H.264 for most of the titles. few movies in bd use VC-1. the ones that do are from paramount and warner, the neutral companies). granted toshiba will make the most from royalties/licensing fees and reproduction rights, but ms will make a lot of money as well because VC-1 is mandatory for use in hd dvd. all this happens over time, not over night.
But Billions? Where is your data substantiating such a claim?
maybe it's the fact MS makes billions quarterly in similar business models...;)
who knows..billions is really a lot...
it's only a guess anway...
Microsoft makes $12 Billion or so each year. I highly doubt almost 10% of their profits are derived from a simple video compression codec or interactive menu software.
