@thomasn7: I'm hoping Doom delivers. If it can reach similar quality to Wolfenstein The New Order I'll be satisfied.

@Henry518: "movie made to entertain people for what it is"

This is one of my issues about most review systems whether it is for movies, games, books, etc. Typically things are reviewed on the same universal scale regardless of genre or target audience which I don't think is always fair and accurate. Certain movies are intended for a particular type of audience and will have a certain level of expectations. When reviewing movies I think it is important to think about who the movie is intended for.

I think part of the issue as well is that a trip to the movies is quite expensive these days so people aren't going to waste their time or money on a movie that is not well received. I might give a movie a chance when it is free on netflix but chances are I'm not going to give a poorly reviewed movie a chance in theaters unless it is a movie I genuinely have an interest in....this movie is not one of them.

"Lock a critic in a room with a movie no one has even seen and they will not know what to make of it,"

I actually do agree with this and would love to see some sort of experiment conducted based in this theory. I honestly sometimes question my own personal opinions about movies or games and think "do I actually like/dislike this movie/game as much as I think or is my opinion being influenced by a general consensus?"

I think this would be a cool experiement. Have critics watch a movie without knowing any opinion about the movie and see what type of reviews are generated. Have people watch a terrible movie but have them believe that reviews claim the movie is great, and see what their opinion are after. And then have a group of people watch a great movie but tell them reviews slammed the movie and it is terrible, and then see the opinions generated.

Yeah playing as Luke blowing up the Deathstar would be great but that I just one moment from the Star Wars. I guess they could have forgone a traditional campaign and just had a solo player mode where you play through various iconic scenes from the movie.

As always with EA it isn't really a matter of what they are capable of doing, but what they want to do. They are one of the biggest and most successful gaming companies out there so they should have little limitations on what they can do. I always look towards their Madden franchise. While the series has improved over the years a common complaint is that there are little changes year to year. EA should be more than capable of implementing all the improvements fans expect, though it might require more time than the one year development cycle. Likewise with Battlefront they are certainly capable of releasing a better game with some sort of campaign but it seems like they were set on releasing the game around the release of the new movie (whether it was their choice or an expectation set elsewhere.)

@jagdedge124: I wonder, and suspect, if there was pressure on EA to release the game around the release of the movie. Marketing wise is would be the best time to release any sort of Star Wars product. A Star Wars game like Battlefront will sell well regardless (especially if done well) but releasing it while the Star Wars hype train is in full momentum is ideal

EA definitely could afford to have included a Campaign but consider this, the game is already a $60 game with a $50 season pass for a MP only game. Including a solo campaign would have undoubtedly upped the budget cost. Knowing EA don't you think they would have upped the price somewhere to gain additional revenue from the game?

I'm someone who didn't buy the game for various reason, including the overall price and lack of a solo campaign, but I'm not quite sure what they could have do with a solo campaign that would have been worth while. A campaign that went through the movies would be great but would be quite the task for a development team. Playing the story of a random soldier character going from battle to battle wouldn't be too exciting. The best option could have a campaign bridging the movies, the events between episode 6 and 7, but is there an engaging story to be found there?

Perhaps even better would be a Destiny like formula where the game is a bit more MMO than strictly online multplayer. Players could explore the galaxy, going from planet to planet solo or with a fireteam, with specific missions to accomplish. And even then the story could be fairly basic, choose a side and try to take control of the galaxy.

I see all the complaints about the lack of a solo campaign and they are warranted. Titanfall, Evolve, and Battlefront prove that without a campaign the game can get uninteresting quickly. I just don't see many people explaining what could have been done with Battlefront campaign that would have made the experience worthwhile because most Star Wars fans wouldn't settle for a lazy, thrown together campaign for the sake of having a campaign.

I don't blame hipsters, I blame the Internet in general. It just gives people a place to complain about some of the most pointless topics. I'm convinced that people complain just to complain. People will complain about anything that is less than perfection and even then people will find something to b!tch about.

What's the point of complaining about something that you can completely ignore? It's like complaining about a movie being in 3D when you have the option of seeing the movie in regular deimension.

@Kunakai:

I understand the complaint of the game lacking a campaign but I'm not sure what people would expect out of the campaign. The point of the Battlefront games was always larger scale battles within the Star Wars universe, not delivering an engaging story mode or campaign.

If this game were to include a campaign they couldn't half ass it or else the complaints would be that it was a waste of time and the game was better off without the campaign. I'm not doubting EA's capability of delivering a solid campaign for a Star Wars game but I'm not sure they would want to invest the extra money and development time that would be necessary. If they game were to have a campaign mode then the game wouldn't have released yet and would still be in development.
