Rumor: Ace Combat 7 Might Be Announced With a Trailer at PlayStation Experience

A while ago, Ace Combat Producer Kazutoki Kono mentioned in an interview that a current generation Ace Combat game was being considered, and we might finally see the results at PlayStation Experience.

Some eagle-eyed Japanese fans datamined the files of the latest update of Ace Combat Infinity and discovered references to a very interesting event, posting them on the message board of the Japanese wiki of the game.

“ACE COMBAT INFINITY エースコンバット7のエンブレムをゲットせよ! Obtain some ACE COMBAT 7 emblems! Obtenez des emblèmes de ACE COMBAT 7 ! Ottieni degli emblemi di ACE COMBAT 7! Holen Sie sich “ACE COMBAT 7″-Embleme! ¡Conseguid emblemas de ACE COMBAT 7! Получите эмблемы ACE COMBAT 7!

パイロット各位 「エースコンバット インフィニティ」をプレイいただきありがとうございます。

PlayStationExperience2015にて、エースコンバット7の発表が行われました。

トレーラー動画も配信しておりますので、 ”エースコンバット7”あるいは”PlayStationExperience2015”を検索してご覧ください 新作発表を記念して、エースコンバット7のエンブレムがゲットできるスペシャルチャレンジが発生中です”

After the repeated message in several languages and the usual thanks for playing Ace Combat Infinity, the code mentions that Ace Combat 7 has been announced at PlayStation Experience 2015 (of course this is supposed to appear after the announcement) and a trailer has also been showcased at the event. In order to celebrate the announcement of the new game, a challenge to acquire Ace Combat 7 emblems is undergoing.

While this is certainly promising, we should of course take this with the customary grain of salt. I would absolutely love to see the return of Ace Combat as a single player game, and even more so one set in the old and beloved fictional universe. We’ll have to wait and see if my dreams will come true on December 4th.

[Thanks for the tip: Masaru Aoyama]

Taken with the obligatory grain of salt, but this would be amazing if the rumor pans out.

The 1980s were some of the best years for PC and other home computer game box art. These are some of my very favorites. Falcon and Falcon A.T. by Spectrum Holobyte from 1987 and 1989, respectively.

Released November 21, 1990 in Japan, the Super Famicom / Japanese SNES is perhaps Nintendo greatest console ever.

Happy 25th birthday / anniversary!

Very obscure console, and has been a collector's item since the mid 1990s. Always held in high regard by PC-Engine / TurboGrafx-16 fans.

SuperGrafx was most famous for its port of Ghouls 'N Ghosts, because in most ways it looked a lot better than the Genesis version, with more graphical detail that was closer to the arcade, though not arcade perfect. Capcom's 1941: Counter Attack shmup was also ported nicely to the SuperGrafx and remained the only official & legal home version of the game (not counting MAME emulation) for many years until the arcade game was brought to the Sony PSP in Capcom Classics Collection Remixed.

never heard of it...is it related to the TurboGrafx 16?

Yes and no. The SuperGrafx was an attempt at a second generation console from NEC, launched in 1989, two years after the PC-Engine arrived in 1987,

The TurboGrafx-16 was the original PC-Engine in a larger console case for the U.S. market.

The SuperGrafx was, essentially the PC-Engine 2. It had a second graphics processor with its own set of VRAM, plus 4 times the system RAM (128K vs 32K in PCE / TG-16). The SuperGrafx allowed twice as many sprites on-screen: 128 vs 64, plus a second background layer, like the Genesis.

The problem was SuperGrafx had the exact same CPU as the PCE / TG-16, no improvement there. As well as the same sound chip.

SuperGrafx failed so badly in Japan (only 50,000 systems were made) that it makes the Sega Genesis 32X upgrade look like a huge success.

Here are a few articles from Electronic Gaming Monthly on the SuperGrafx from late 1989 / early 1990.

Power Drift is a classic kart racing arcade game from 1988. It was part of the long line of Sega 'Super-scalar" games like Space Harrier, Out Run, After Burner.

Here's a 60fps video of Power Drift emulated.
