I was thinking about overclocking my laptop. I heard that overclocking laptops can cause them to overheat alot. These are my specs :

CPU : Intel Pentuim T2330 DUAL CORE 1.6GHZ

Memory : 2GB DDR2 RAM DUAL CHANNEL

Both cores run at 798MHz and the DRAM Frequency is 266Mhz.

I hope you guys can help.

theres really no point as youd probably only be able to get 100mhz at most considering its a laptop and only has 1.6ghz to start with. get a 2500k on a desktop then you can easily overclock each of the 4 cores from 3.3ghz to 4.5. that is 4.8 ghz more, which is worth any bother. 200 mhz isnt.

i dont use sleep/hibernate either because i get the same kind of issues.

instead i use a timed shutdown tool so windows will automatically shut down when its timed to. this is handy because i tend to fall asleep watching youtube vids or movies etc. i use "vista shutdown tool". but it also works for win 7.

dont use your old ram.

youll want a motherboard supporting ddr3 which isnt backwards compatible to ddr2.

some of the p68 mobos are pretty old now and dont support the newer techs such as ddr3, sata3 and usb3.

Aside from price how is the g400 any better than the g500?

Been looking for a mouse to replace my Logi G5.achilles614

you might find this interesting. although its 5 years old now. the g5 is technically a pretty bad mouse.

http://www.esreality.com/?a=longpost&id=1265679&page=21

the g400 is basically a redesigned mx518, the king of mice

if you can get a mx518 then i would reccomend that, but nowadays because they stopped making them the prices are too high. g400 is almost the same and half the price.

if your question is, will it work when you put all the parts together, yes, probably, and itll play most games out today fairly well.

but its not the most wise collection of parts. no pci slots means other than a graphics card you can fit nothing else in your pc, so youll be stuck with less than great onboard audio which puts you at a great disadvantage in any competative fps game for example. youre graphics card may be slightly bottlenecked by that cpu too, and obviously at a later date in a couple of years when you want to upgrade your processor/graphics or both, youll almost certainly want atleast 650w so will have to buy another psu which isnt very cost effective in the long run.

you should still be able to get a cheap micro atx board with a couple of pci slots aswell as the pci express slot. for maybe $5 more it would be a good move as then if you want a proper sound card later then you can get one. and i would get a 650w psu to save myself in the long run. but its not bad for a first build.

edit: you might also want to consider getting a cheap as possible 250gb or even 80gb hard drive as by the time you are using up the space, the price will be much, much lower. the price currently is greatly inflated by a couple of factories being burned to the ground. the same 500gb you want to buy cost about £35 a few months ago.

I play games that require nvidia 8 series and lower. I think i can run that. I'm not gonna be buying any games since i am a free-gamer. But other than that Here are some of the games i play Tell me if i will be ableto run them onhigh settings without lag Dragonnest Team fortress 2 Brawl Busters EDIT: and what do you mean by probably in "if your question is, will it work when you put all the parts together, yes, probably" ?

i only really know tf2 of those but it should run perfectly well. what i mean by probably, is assuming you put it together properly, and you dont have any faulty hardware.

id wait until you can upgrade cpu, mobo and ram at the same time. then if you get something like a 2500k (and a £15 cooler to clock it to around 4.5ghz) the performance boost in games from that will satisfy you until you can afford new graphics.
