Hey, it's HD and it's not 480p. I'd say there's nothing to complain about.

uRan_Ehr

my thoughts exactly. All my TV does is 720p, and I think it looks orgasmic

Yep same here. I think I read something about you need to have at least a 40" screen and you have to stand at least 3 meter right in front of it to see a difference between 720p and 1080p.

Wrong. Ive got a 24" 1080p monitor and its great. 1080p at 24" is the same as 1080p at 100", you just need to adjust your viewing distance. Resolition is fixed, it doesnt change due to screen size.

most games are in 720 because the human eye (for most of us) cannot detect the difference in pixel rate between it and 1080. unless your screen is larger than 60 inches.

newhighscore

Wrong, very wrong.

Ive got a 24" 1080p Monitor and can certainly tell the difference.

The last 4 games i bought:

Infamous,

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2

Assassins Creed 2

Borderlands

All except Infamous will play in 1080p. My TV auto switches depending on the resolution and they all play in what it say on the box.

Upscaled or not, (which i don't think they are) they all look excellent

TroubleMaker411

Im guessing all of them are upscalled. COD MW2 is 1080p upscalled as the native resolution of COD MW2 is about 600p.

i just got a ps3 and yea its pretty awesome but something is bugging me i also own a xbox 360 and a reasonably good hdtv 1080p. all my setting are set to 1080p on my ps3, the dashboard is 1080 so why are uncharted 2 and infamous and every game ive played so far in 720p? i cant help but think i am missing something when my xbox is playing games in 1080p i expected the same from my PS3. can someone tell me why this is please. uncharted 2 still looked freakin great!!!

freakyos

If its great, why does it matter?

The game (Uncharted 2) is 720p and not 1080p. You can try and force it to upscale to 1080p by unticking 720p. But I wouldnt bother, its meant to be played in its native resolution, just leave it. Regardless of this, if you have a 1080p TV, then your TV is upscalling the 720p image and outputting at the TV's native resolution, which in this case would be 1080p.

Very few Xbox 360 games are native 1080p. Most are upscalled, which is the same for the PS3, its just your TV is doing the scalling.

Maybe because some games are only 720p? :? And the 360 doens't play games in 1080p native. It only upscales them.uRan_Ehr

Yes, the Xbox 360 does play games in native 1080p, not all, infact not many at all, but like the PS3, the Xbox 360 can play native 1080p.

None that I am aware of. The standard for 720P used to be 1280x720 but has since increased as well...Baconbits2004

No it hasnt, 720p was and always will be 1280 x 720. Your talking about 768p.

It will contain the same amount of detail, but it won't look exactly the same. I wouldn't use the word "exact" either, as two 40 inch 1080Ps viewed from the same distance are bound to look a tad different. There's more variables than that silly chart, that pops up in this forum, provides.

Heirren

This always pops up. When talking about 1080p 1920 x 1080, I am and always will be only talking about resolution. a 1080p screen regradless of size (and remember just talking about resolution here) will always look the same. Its the same amount of pixels, that can never change.

Hello,

I wanted to make sure of something, Irecently bought a 32 inch HDTV 1080p. Yes i know you can't thefull 1080p picture out of a 32 so let's get that out of the way. Whenever I play Uncharted, Uncharted 2, ODST, Metal Gear Solid 4, there are jagged edges around somethings on the screen. I know this is more than like due to the lack of any or very little Anti-Aliasing but I want to make sure. I also know that all HDMI cable produce the same picture no mater the brand nor the price. Is there anyway to improve the picture quality? Also if you can tell me anything I have said wrong in my previous statements let me know. I am not going to complain so much about the picture if this is the best I can get on a 32 but I also want to be able to have the best picture if it isn't.

Thank you.

Ps: It is a Sony KDL-32s5000 or si500 I can't remember.

KingofScots7

This wont help you much, but your statement about 1080p at 32" is wrong. A 22" 1080p TV will look exactly the same as a 100" 1080p TV as resolution is fixed. You just need to sit closer to the smaller screen to notice that its the same,

Every PS3 games supports 1080i/720p, so if you have a 720P/1080i television, you will always be at 720P/1080i.

codezer0

Except that the ps3 won't do any rescaling beyond whatever the game's box says it will support. At least with the 360, it can and be opted to output any game you want at 1080i/p even if the box doesn't explicitly say so. There is supposedly a way to "force" the ps3 to upscale 720p to 1080i/p via unchecking 720p as a supported resolution in its video settings, but that also has a caveat, in that if a game doesn't let itself be upscaled, it will be downscaled instead... all the way down to 480i/p as its programming sees fit. For me, that's one of those PITA issues about the ps3 that I just do not like.

It doesnt really matter in the end anyway. Really, you shouldnt be looking at upscalling stuf if you dont have to as you should always try to play in native resolution, plus the fact, anything thats getting fed to the TV, will always be at the TV's native resolution anyway (unless the source on the TV has borders around it). People think the scalling of everything to 1080p on the Xbox 360 is great, when if you have a 1080p TV, then it would be getting upscaled regardless.

[QUOTE="monson21502"][QUOTE="KHAndAnime"] This is a big pile of misinformation. The PS3 is as much of an HD console as the 360, if not more.KHAndAnime

nope. 360 can be set to any res. and onces you sent it to 1080p/i everything you do on the 360 is that res. meanwhile on ps3 only movies are set to be in your tvs max res. on games you have to uncheck 720p in order to get 1080p or 1080i. and if that game doesnt support 1080p/i then it knocks you down to 480. so you would have to go back into the setting and check 720 p again. i think his tv must support 720 p. i used to have a 27 1080i and my ps3 games came up as 720p just fine. if it doesnt support 720 p he is in trouble with the ps3 for games....

Every PS3 games supports 1080i/720p, so if you have a 720P/1080i television, you will always be at 720P/1080i.

We are talking about old TV's that are 1080i and 1080i only. There is not that many about (more in America than in the UK I believe) If your TV supports only 1080i then some games for the PS3 will downscale to 480p (576i in the UK).
