Well i was same as you last february.Had my 60GB for just about 2 years, and i remember it used to run quite hot.and was concerned that it might break down ,so i sold it .I currently have a working 60GB PS3 and it has never failed me. However, my friend who bought his a week before me from the same store has had the YLOD twice. I am wondering if I should sell it now and get a new slim or just keep my model. I do still have like 3 PS2 games I want to play but I'm not sure what to do. How many of the original PS3's actually fail?

Then bowt 2-3 weeks ago bought one of the latest 80GB Phat models(same shape as my 60GB).It runs much cooler and quieter.
If you take a look on ebay, you will see plenty of broken PS3s with YLOD,partly why i decided to sell mine after 2 years before it failed.
But it's completely up to you,PS3s are mostly reliable, and yours may go on forever, plus i don't think it's too expensive to get fixed by Sony.
Oh,and lastly, rumour has it,that all PS2 titles wil soon be available to buy and download on Playstation store, jus the same as PS 1 titles on there now, thus the reason Sony did away with BC on newer models.

u could go to a computer fair and get it fixed for about 50pounds, sony is like 100 isnt it?

That would probably void the warranty.
Wouldn't the warranty be long expired by now anyhows seeing the 60GB was ceased in production more than a year ago? Unless of course you bought extended warranty?I used to have a 60GB from launch and did notice that it used to run very hot.I kept it for just about 2 years, and i too wasn't too concerned about the B.C. cos i still got my old Phat PS2.So i sold the 60GB and a couple of weeks ago i managed to buy a latest version Phat 80GB for ££££s less than a slim-There's bargains out there if you look around,so you don't nessecarily have to go for the slim, cos the newer 80s run cooler and quieter anyway.
Yea ive found this the last few times ive tried to get on the game and have given up trying several times.I did manage to get on several times though when i first downloaded the demo and thought it was Great. Its really slow finding games, is anyone else experiencing this?
Also, is there a way i can set search to any game? Because it takes 10 minuets to search for optimal games, then 20 for closed games then it tries to find any game

Yea im happy with my 2nd PS3 that i bought 2 weeks ago-80GB Phat, and just ordered a 320GB hard drive for it,so i should never run outta free space no time soon.ive owned xbox 360 sense launch, but after countless red rings ( 7 of em) i moved on to ps3, anyone else really happy with the consle? why did you decide to get the consle? im likeing it, but idk if im likeing PSN as much as i like XBL, i mean its free, but its missing some good features like in game private chat. overall im happy with my PS3, nice few good games for it, excluses comming are looking way better then xbox's upcomming exlucses. But most of my friends have xbox 360's and are always playing stuff like halo and forza, and then it kinda makes me wanna get another xbox.

I've had 3 360s and luckily only one died from rrod, and only recently sold my Elite to buy my 80GB PS3.
I just trust the console for its build better than i did my 360s andi just prefer the actual PS3 console and overall experience of PSN.
What failure rate, im now aware of a ps3 failure rate? What is this mythical creature you speak of?Javieralijandro
Take a look on ebay-There's plenty of broken ones for sale, blu ray drive broken, yellow light of death, seem to be main problems. So there are problems with a few,but that didn't put me off buying my 2nd-New Phat 80GB PS3 2 weeks ago.
i got 80GB Phat and have updated to 3.01 + No Probs.and has not gotten any problems? I still kept 2.80 firmware and havent updated since I ve been hearing it has caused problems, but then again I havent been able to go PSN.

I had it on 360 and found the campaign excellent as well as the online play.Gonna pick up a good 2nd hand copy for my PS3 asap.Im thinkin of geting BFBC. I yhink it looks really fun and all the fully destructive world n stuff look reall cool but i never use internet so i was wondering if the singleplayer campain is worth paying 20-30 bucks for or should i rent it?
