@howmakewood: I get those points but a brand new game, playing on an old card/processor isn't stable but when a game is made and made well, i.e. MGS V, GTA V, RDR (going back to PS3 here) and so on, even on dated console hardware because games are optimised for the restrictions.

Having said that, actually buying a game on a PC is cheaper than any console. Buying a hard copy, PC game is around 30 quid, a console game will cost upwards of £40. So there's ups and down for both.

Man, I am really looking forward to this. With Mass Effect 2 being one of my all time faves and the last in the trilogy being pretty good too, I am looking forward to what they can do with better hardware.

So you can't guarantee it? I can guarantee all Xbox games can run on all functioning Xboxs, for example.

Region-locked XBox games will only work on corresponding region XBox consoles.

This pretty much. And there is some weird regio locking even within the same region. For example an US xBox might play a PAL game only if it is released in a specific country. If the same game in the same region is released in another country you can't play it. On PC you can easely work around that (just like you can play most japanese games by using japanese locals), but on consoles you have no chance unless you "break" the software on the system itself ... but that's far away from plug and play...

I see you couldn't guarantee it after all. As for the region blocking, that's done by the FIRST PARTY and is part of the design. PC incompatibilities are never by the first party, they're by the third and they are always unintended and systemic of a pseudo-platform. That is unless you want to count the Steam/Origin/Uplay systems as software locking. This type of division cannot happen on a real platform.

You are making no sense at all. So not every xbox game running on every xbox is okay because it is by design. But on PC where literally every game runs on every system (as long as it is programmed for the OS) somehow isn't okay even though it is the only system where you actually can make it run. I can play this stupid game as well: Show me a PC game that doesn't run on one specific computer that meets the requirements of the game and doesn't have any solution. Games being incompatible is no issue any more. I haven't seen one game on my Steam account being incompatible to my PC, we are literally discussing a non-issue here.

It's actually been a major issue on Steam and Valve specific games.

I played Half Life 2 and everything else on the Orange Box for years but over the last 12 months or so, have not been able to play any of it (my PC is actually great for gaming). I've looked on the internet for a solution and found thousands upon thousands of steam users with the same problem and no solution has been put forward by either steam or any one else. This shows that the PC and Steam itself is not perfect. Problems arise which a lot of people still need to try and fix.

Having said I agree with the overall sentiment of the thread, a console is no longer a quick and easy alternative to playing games HOWEVER, it does provide the cheapest method in the long run, because PC graphics cards get dated very quickly these days and to play graphic intensive games requires an update of the card, which is expensive and problematic for a lot of people, not to mention the entry point of a strong, capable gaming pc, which costs far more than a console.

With a console, there's the ease of mind that most games will be made with the abilities of the console in mind and in reality, the games are normally more stable and there's only a slight graphical difference between console and PC.

So, I finished it a couple weeks back and the story was utter shite. NO real closure and a twist which made zero sense and before people claim that all MGS games have confusing/non-sensical stories, it's just not true. I've been able to keep up with most of the story from the main canon of games and have been pretty satisfied, especially with the nice way MGS 4 ended.

However, I have played some more of the side ops (done over a 100 of these) and I just realised something...in fact, it's something I saw in a youtube video. MGS V is a repetitive, stupid, unrewarding game...yet it keeps you playing. **** me, Kokijma had me for a bit.

@lamprey263:

I kinda agree with what you said, although I liked the last Deus Ex, it didn't work well as a FPS but the RPG elements were ok. Just not as good as Skyrim, Fallout 3 or ME2 on the last gen of consoles. So, I'm not that into the whole Deus Ex rebirth at the moment, for me, it's all about Doom. I want to see how they do with bringing the series back to fast paced gameplay and fun multiplayer. This is one for the PC.

@Telekill: I've pretty much been in the same boat since 2012 (ended my first degree, started medicine) but I still managed to play the odd big release and some of the better indie games. Sadly I feel you, I have more money now but far less time and it's only going to get more difficult. I probably would have finished a game like Mad Max in a week or so back in the day, now it's taken me months and I've only played it a few times.

Sell the consoles and buy a PC.

I've got a PC and I use it for gaming too so I have that covered but it's not as if there's a tonne of great, AAA exclusives on there either.

My PS4 was a present and I've enjoyed playing Mad Max, MGSV to a certain extent and obviously FIFA. I'm not as ardent a gamer as I used to be, I can't with university and so on but it feels as if gaming has taken a huge hit, mostly creatively. Everything is about squeezing the last drop of money from the consumer with ridiculous online modes, MMO hybrid gameplay which is mostly unnecessary, releasing half arsed products which are terribly broken etc etc etc.

Some of that would be forgivable if we were getting a number of high quality, truly great AAA games but we're not.

@Dannystaples14: The WItcher 3 is awesome (have it on my PC) and that's my whole point, almost 2 years and barely any exclusives to talk about. However, the last gen was longer than 4 years.
