[QUOTE="starwarsgeek112"]

There are many other ways to play these games that don't involve paying for the more expensive 3DS... just sayin.

soulreaper-4

That's right if you are a stupid thieve or have a the GBA copy.

I mean I don't really see what the problem is with older games. In most cases there isn't a legitimate way to get it (and apparently he wont be able to) without buying it used and even then you're just giving money to the person selling it, not any of the actual people involved in making it.

[QUOTE="IronBass"][QUOTE="GD1551"]Yeah in genres where they basically have 0 competition. SMG!! Platformer of this gen!!!! It is the best out of all 5(exaggeration of course) platformers for the whole gen!! Nintendo doesn't try to compete, much like with the wii they make games in areas where's there is little to no competition then people claim "best of gen"GD1551

Both the action-adventure (action adventure) and FPS (Metroid Prime, also with a huge action-adventure component) genres have always been extremely competitive. So were platformers (Mario 3, Super Mario World) in the Nes and Snes days. Your argument is wrong.

MP doesn't even come close to the best in either department. You don't see anyone borrowing anything from MP. Again with the platformers, nice that back in the snes days it was competitive however after that it wasn't and still isn't.

MP seamlessly combines first person shooter mechanics with action adventure mechanics, bundled with the exploration and feel of 2d Metroid games. It's a gaming masterpiece. Again I have to ask, have you even played the game??

So.. it's even more impressive that they took the time to redefine the platforming genre when they could have just stuck with the exact same gameplay mechanics as Mario 64 since they had so little competition it would have sold anyway. Also, I'm just gonna pull out the gamerankingscard again and say that SMG 1 is the second highest scoring game of all time and it's "rehashed" sequel is the third. Seriously, have you even played these games???

[QUOTE="starwarsgeek112"]Metroid Prime.. just the 7th best game ever made (according to gamerankings), definitely not the best of that gen.IronBass

If you checked that Gamerankings chart, you should have noted that none of the other 6 games came out that same gen.

And there again, being the seventh highest scoring game of all time doesn't exactly fit with a "just". It's a terrific achievement.

I suppose I should have added this :roll: to the end of my post.

Metroid Prime is my favorite game from last generation, but I will agree with Nintendoboy and say that Halo, Half-Life 2, and also Resident Evil 4 are all contenders for best game of the generation.

[QUOTE="starwarsgeek112"]

The handheld market faces a legitimate threat from the rise of iOS and android games. I'm not saying handhelds are going to go anywhere anytime soon or that those games are better but you'd be a little naive to think otherwise.

Famiking

Handheld gaming faces as much of a threat as PC gaming does from flash gaming. I have an Android (probably not as good as iOS for gaming), and I have found more enjoyment out of Pokemon Mystery Dungeon than I did with Android flagship titles such as Angry Birds and NinJump. It's hard to argue that they're even competing.

Android isn't as good for gaming as iOS but it is catching up. Anyway the problem is that people don't want to spend more money on yet another device which has $40 games, when they can buy games anywhere from .99 to $10 on their phones. Now I'm not one of these people and I already own a 3DS but it seems like the iOS and Android markets are quickly becoming the best place to get casual games and it's the casual market that drives the industry. Another problem is that there are some pretty hardcore iOS games, just look at games like Zenonia or N.OV.A.. Again, I'm not saying that these games are as good as what you'll get on the new hand-helds, but as the market for these games grow, we're going to start see some higher quality games.

Obviously it's going to take a long time for this to happen and the handheld market isn't in any immediate danger but it definitely is a threat.

They didn't in the Gamecube era. Though Metroid Prime and Wind Waker scored high, I don't think any of them were considered the best of the gen.

Metroid Prime.. just the 7th best game ever made (according to gamerankings), definitely not the best of that gen. The only other game that was as highly praised as Metroid Prime that I can think of in the Gamecube/PS2/xbox gen is Resident Evil 4.

I find it completely hilarious that people defend nintendo's bad practices and say good games. Yet activision is the same way and people flame them, same with capcom and the same way with EA. They all have good games infact they all have games that define this generation yet people flame them if they do stuff like this but nintendo is always left off the hook.

Why is this?

GD1551

Because every new entry in one of Nintendo's core franchises is always extremely good and often time set new standards for what can be done in a genre. Have you played Metroid Prime or even Mario Galaxy 1 and 2? I'll agree that Nintendo milks their franchises in spin off titles, but not for the main series. We generally get one new entry each generation and if we're lucky sometimes two.. not a new one every year with little change.

[QUOTE="GunSmith1_basic"]the re-hashing argument is an old one that does not work with anyone who actually plays nintendo games. They always mix up their formula, so much so that people say that Twilight Princess is too close for comfort with Ocarina of Time. Those two games have huge similarities but also huge differences. Nintendo is always mixing up their formula with exceptions like direct sequels to specific games like Galaxy 2 and Metroid Prime 2, but no one would fault Nintendo for making those games close to the originals (and even in those cases there are new elements added). With all the COD games and clones and FPS boredom out there (oh but with different characters! ... lol who cares???) I find it funny that Nintendo is accused of rehashingGD1551

Sorry but I don't see the big difference between TP/MM/OOT/WW, the core gameplay is exactly the same, there are normally only one or two major changes. Like sailing in WW, wolf in TP etc.. but outside of that the game's play exactly the same just like COD. COD gets only 1 or two changes that make each different but on a fundamental level they are exactly the same.

Have you actually played any of these games? They all have the same core gameplay because they are the same genre in the same series but they all have very different feels aside from TP and OoT, heck I could even see how you could list WW as beeing pretty similar (even though I wouldn't agree). However, MM is very different from the standard Zelda mold, and if we're going to go ahead and play System Wars then even the GS review confirms this.
