It's not only hard to review a game right, it's impossible. Reviewing a game correctly is like saying you are reviewing the game completely objectively, which can't be done because you have no choice but to form an opinion on the parts of a game. You can even give many different perspectives on each part of a game to try to appeal to more people, but then of course there are the ones that don't even like that specific part or don't care in general, or maybe they will like that part/push through it regardless of what a reviewer might have to say about it. It get's far deeper than this as well. What's worse is that unless the reviewer can manage to cover every possible path and furthest level of perspectives (given any and every type of gamers desire) it's at least near impossible to completely go with what they are saying. Even with my favorite reviewers I can't agree 100% with any of the reviews that they have done. I could say "hey I liked this part and they liked it too" but I don't like that part the way they described it.

Very VERY coherent and well-written article Kevin. :) I'm not nearly as good in explaining the specifics of how a game's story can impact the game play as well as the entire experience of a game, so in short I'll just say that the atmosphere that a game presents is far more important than people think. The atmosphere being what draws in a person to a game, either it be Story, environment or a combination of both. The atmospheric qualities of a game should never be underestimated.

@bubbalooga Are those your top three favorite franchises or the top three franchises you feel have the best written stories? Because one of those things is not like the others. >_>
