This review pretty much nails all my concerns perfectly. It seems like Starfield is a decent enough game, but doesn't take it to the next level by exploiting the endless reaches of space to do something more ambitious and innovative compared to previous games. It really is just Skyrim in Space.
Woo baby, this is the goofiest controversy in a while. Kern's criticism was silly, but some of the responses to it have been absolutely unhinged. I think the start screen looks really nice, except for the box up in the top right, which ruins the slick minimalist appearance. But it's hardly worth getting that worked up over. Let's worry about whether the game itself is any good.
Funny to come back to this entry five years later and reexamine my thoughts. I have played a lot of Death Stranding and Cyberpunk 2077, but have completed neither. Starfield is only just now coming out in three months, and my hype levels have crashed. Fallout 76 was garbage. Beyond Good and Evil 2 is in development hell, and The Elder Scrolls VI has had literally no news since that single teaser videos.
I'm fine with it getting delayed, if it means a better product in the end. Fallout 76 might have benefited from a delay like this, although the entire gameplay premise of that game may have doomed it anyway.
