really depends on how new the tech, if you'll get lets say HD5970 4Gb x3, 16Gb DDR3 2Ghz, Core i7 980X 3.33Ghz - you'll be able to play games on high graphics for about 3-4 years
If he gets a killer system like that I think it'll last for a little more than 3-4 years. It seems we've hit the roof of graphics at the moment and we need a new breakthrough (Crysis was a breakthrough graphics wise) Anyways most of the games at the moment runs on Unreal Engine 3, if Epic won't be that butthurt by the time they create UE4 the next half of games would run on that.
Yeap this, hardware has overtaken requirements by a huge amount.
We probably wont see the next Crysis till the current gen consoles start dying off in preparation for the next batch.
I think it's an insult to real rally racing and the 'Colin McRae's' name.

Tough to be an insult to rally racing and the CMR name when this game is advertised as an arcade rally game and it doesn't even use the CMR name....it's Dirt 3, it does revolve around Colin more or less but the "Dirt" series isn't called CMR Dirt 1/2/3 because it's not a more realistic rally game, the last CMR game was 05.
Secondly with holding game content from PC and Xbox users is a big no no for me.

I think that's more of a sign that the PS3 version is going to be the weaker of the 3 (as usual) than them holding out on the PC and 360. Rockstar did the same thing recently with Red Dead.
