Ok I am past the streets of athens, I remember the first time around of doing this section and it gave me so much trouble, but I managed to get through it unscathed this time. I find myself being attached to the Spirit move rather than Plume I can bust more out and I think I have the minotaur fights down using them I attack backaway initiate another connect grapple and slam and keep doing that until the circle appears over their head.
That is good. Spiritis the spiritual *lawl* successor of Plum afterall. Though later you'll still need to add theexploits/trick I mentioned to your reportoire. With lvl3 BoC,square, triangle, triangle, triangle is a great way to unleash the dogs of warupon your hated foes. Also, roll to triangle, triangle, triangle...I think Rush (R1)to3x triangle will also work at lvl3...perhaps lvl4. I don't use leveled weapon very often these days>_>
Sounds like you are sayingyou are using Spirit on Minotaurs to cause a bounce effect only to follow it up with OH..that's what it sounds like anyway. An interesting choice and agood tactic.Launch/bounce to infinite air grapplewill still work the bestoverall though. Note that the air BoC triangle attack *Dissension* causesa bounce like Plume.
In reply to the previous post with practising the Orions harpoon grab, I have managed to get that going it just needs a little more tweeking here and there. Although whilst in the streets of AthensI did manage to Plume a Gorgan assassin to the floor then chain slam her into the floor a couple of times to make a quick job of her. I am finding the grab and chain slam move useful for getting rid of a group of archers as well.
OH is great for lesser creatures too. Especially if you can quickly GUIDE it so that the foe you slam lands on another creature. *cannot be done in GoWII as you can only choose what you aim at and in some cases..how you throw the creature..but you cannot truely guide it*. It is good you got a little Infinite OH practice in. Now you need to get good at the Infinite Air Grapple *it is especially effective against Legionnaires of all sorts*. Just refer to that vid of mine for examples of how great it can be. You are progressing well..just have to keep practicing with these tricks.
When I got to the square the first time around the group of Cyclops gave me a huge problem, this time around with evasive action and the spirit and the circle grabs I did manage to make light work of them I didnt need to kill as many humans like I did the first time around. So now I am looking forward to the desert kings just before going into Pandoras temple. I am not really using the quick roll R1 move as I find I am useless with it I find I can roll and direct Kratos to where I need him without using that but I will keep trying it as try to perfect it to a respectable manner.
Though you didn't know it, you could have sat in a cheap little 'sweet spot' in that area and just used back to back Spirit. It is better that you fought them. You should get better with the Rush Canceling just to understand how to guide Kratos at top speeds. If you like rolling though..Quick Rolling is the way to go as you only have that for Artemis and GoWII.
The ornate rooms and corridors that followed didnt give me as much trouble as I expect too as I ripped through the armoured undead warriors in seconds with the Spirit move. Also I am getting better with the parry and face button counter attack it is getting rid of a whole host of undead warriors when i am surrounded by them, I am still not using that much magic the hand to hand combat is working out for me more than the magic which is an achievement for me because all i done in the first time around is whore magic when I couldnt get stuck in.
Know that there are a few tricks for individual creatures. In the case of the 'Shieldman' you've noted that only Lance of the Furies, Plume and Spirit break their shields. AoH negates the shields while other spells do nothing *cannot recall if Zf has any special properties with them because I think it did*. WHILE they are spawning or ON THEIR BACKS *with shield* you can land at least one hit *any sort of hit really*..IF you do so..you can grab that particular Legionnaire as if he didn't have his shield...use that knowledge however you like.
In the case of parrys..the Valorversion is great for clearing a crowd but best when it knocks people into a death trap *not often*..the Plume version is choice for parrying the Shieldman. It is better that you lean off magic as you have been doing..once you have to deal with NUR conditions you'll likely need to have great skill with weapon usage THEN learn to abuse spells *lvl1* where they will actually be useful..which isn't often you'll find...Medusa's Gaze takes center stage at that point. Though against Ares1..PR and AoH are still best.
The Wraith warriors didnt hold as much trouble for me unlike the previous run, I found blocking was my best friend here and letting loose with spirit plus the L1+X attack to me effective here also rolling out of their way was effective for me also, I took full advantage of the barrier upstairs and crushed the Wraith and 2 cyclops upstairs without taking any damage at all. At the moment I am right at the beginning of the temple of the Oracle and here I am proving to have a little bit of trouble with the amount of harpies and then the spawning Gorgans, But I am sure that I will be able to get through them when I get used to the movement and everything.
Wraiths of Athens in GoW1 were rediculously easy. Apollo's Ascension works fairly well for lifts...but I'd advise just using a ground grab on Wraiths for launch potential. You can Infinite OH them but if others are present..they won't leave you alone to do this for too long. So grab to OH to air grab or just grab to air grab would be nice ways of widdling down a crowd of the punks in a cheap manner.
Exploiting the environment is key for dumbing down harder fights..so barrier abuse is a good call when just going apes*** would not work for your skill level.*too soon for that*
For the Harpies, you should try Square, Triangle *bounce* to OH.*killing a single Harpy each time* For the Gorgon, just launch to Infinite Air Grab. Now is when you should be trying your hand at:
-Quick Rolling
-Infinite Air Grab
-Square, Triange and/or Roll to Triangle *harder to use*
NOTE: GoW1 Harpies aren't fond of rolling..if you keep rolling..they will stupidly gawk at you rather then 'bombing'. You CAN get the Gorgon to petrify the Harpies but I don't think that will work out for you.
So at the moment I am going great guns so to speak with the combat and less use of magic which is a good thing because it means I am not reliant on it and it makes no difference now when I do not have any blue orbs to replenish my magic bar. I am still going down the route to upgrading my blades before I work on anything else, and after I have them up to full capacity I am going to work on the PR and then I will leave and save all my orbs so I can upgrade the army of hades spell ready to take on Ares.
A nice safe pattern of upgrades. Just DO NOT bother to upgrade other spells since they don't fit your play$tyle. Artemis doesn't need to be leveled *unless you want it stronger which isn't necessary for what you'll be learning*.
Also I am finding myself reverting back to the tactics and tips thread for GoW to refresh my memory on certain things that can be done with each and every enemy as I encounter them, I am also taking note of each attack that has been listed and I am trying them out along with my own style of fighting and it seems to be going pretty well at the moment. Whilst I am on my first run through God mode I have saved it to a seperate file other than the completed version of it and then I think I will save over the prvious file, because im not sure if I will still have everything to completion if I keep it saved to individual slots. Also I have been checking out the cheats page of God of war and I would like you to tell me if it works please GMG.
Another good call. Cheats page? What about it?
"Skip conveyer belt area When you first walk in to the conveyer belt area right before pandoras box you barely go past the entrance as to not activate the battle with harpies and arrowers. Immediately walk as far as your can to the left or right with running into a conveyer belt. Then walk forward next to the conveyer belt until you reach the first pedestal. Jump on it and you should be home free. Now you can liesurely walk to pandoras box without a battle.
That is a skip by Vortex. Yes, it works. You just aren't suppossed to use it yet. Once you clear the first roller, you can Quick Roll to the exit if I recall right..it is just the common practice to keep next to each roller along the way.
The whole idea is that there is an area near the entrance that if you walk in it you will initiate the battle. By walking as close as you can to the edge you are not "tripping the trigger" per say. "
Correct. You have to be careful not to trigger it by getting too far away from the initial roller(s) as well.
Have you ever tried this and does it work because I am not looking forward to that part of the game because when I first took that on it took me almost 8 hours just to get through that part of the game I was ready to put the game on ebay to sell it because it got to me that much. I know this is not until later in the game and I shouldnt really be worrying about it now, but I like to prepare for further tricky to difficult sections of a game beforehand.
I've done lots of cheap and 'fair' exploits over the years. This is just one of them. Like I said earlier, this skip is only allowed as fairplay when a runner is doing a run type they've already beaten that particular challenge on already..so if you crush it on your own power first...you can restart and try out the skip without looking any worse to me *I frown upon relying on that power before a player has faced and conquered any given part beforehand*. You won't do that though. Just keep in mind what I have been saying about Harpies..and note all the delightful space of the first conveyor *near the entrance*...lots of room to quick roll into a favorable position of attack...slow but safe...and fair.

AuthItalynGyrl: Updates are always welcome.
Sam: Onward to the thread where you progress through non-NUR challenges of GoW..
PS is far stronger in a GK run then basic hits with any weapon. DR too. PS doesn't take down Lahkesis so you can whore it over and over again *just stuns her*
~Go for it
BigVEE:
Lahkesis- between 2:03 and 2:19
Sisters - between 1:39 and 2:17 *different usage but same idea
Shen:
Lahkesis - between 2:37 and 2:58
MistryMan:
Lahkesis - between 3:27 and 3:41
Those are all examples of the grapple to grapple beating you can use for that stage.
[QUOTE="theliar"][QUOTE="Alucard_rules"]God I hate the Kraken on NURs. It's attacks do massive damage, AND you have to hurt him in a special way, FAST. I also feel that beating the Kraken is based a little on luck. Not nearly to the degree of The Clones on a NUR, but it's attacks are fast, and hard to predict, and sometimes you get lucky and it acts in a certain way during a portion of the fight that is beneficial, more often though, it will rape you.Alucard_rules
It can be difficult to predict..but the biggest luck issue is how it decided to strike with its triple tentacle impale IMO.
~Is this to say you haven't beaten it yet and need assistance or are you just griping about an annoying fight?
I haven't beaten it yet. It isn't like I spent hours last night trying to beat it, maybe half an hour at most. It is just that I would like some tips, I tried watching Shinobier's video on it(well, part of it.), I watched up to a certain point(the first tentacle being stuck), and tried to replicate up to that point, but got frustrated, and I'd been playing a lot yesterday already, so I decided to take a break.
Edit: I did it, I beat the ****ing thing. Man, that thing was pissing me off something fierce. I seriously one time after coming really close pounded my fist on my knee a few times. My knee is fine, although my hand hurts now:P. Anyway, I'm glad to have that over and done with.
And here I was going to suggest you look at how shen handled it in his latest speedrun for influence..also how I did it in the GK:TM:MAX SoD run..also just for influence. Figured you could learn a little through both.
What did you end up doing? Also, did you just save and Quit at the next save?
[QUOTE="theliar"]You should be practicing the whoring of infinite air grabs/Orion's Harpoon for ease of God progression, but it is good to hear you weren't struggling early on. Each Minotaur would take 3 air grabs in a row to kill. 2 would set up for "O" usually.
I dont know what it is about the air grabs/orion's harpoon but I dont seem to be able to complete them one after another I dont know if it is because I am too far away from the enemy or because I have too many of them around me when I am attempting to execute this move.
This is a necessary evil to overcome. You really need to practice this if nothing else as it will dumb down fights all over the place allowing ease of passage throughout. Just launch/bounce, jump grab *if need be, don't use the left analog after that if controlling is an issue* and mash *I don't need to since I have it down well* "O" over and over until the beasts are killed. As for Orion's Harpoon..only try whoring that when it is safe to do so. Know that unlike GoWII, you can use the left anaolog to modify where you slam the beast attached to your Blades.
It is also good you are parrying without fail. Exploiting is what you should learn after getting down these basic survival skills though. Against those Cyclops (Athens) early on, you could plume or PR them off the cliff for a quick victory..I believe it also gives you the EXP anyway.
The parry side of things is about to get a whole lot better since I have upgraded my blades to Level 3 and I now have the extra added effect of using one of the face buttons right after to counter damage so I am going to be trying that out as well because on the first run I just didnt attempt it at all I do not know why neither because its extra damage.
But of course. lvl3 grants quite a few of the strong techniques. 'Hades Revenge' is a great tool that allows *at your level* a follow up of "Valor" or "Plume".
Of course going straight into a NUR would be too painful a transition. Good call in that regard.
Thank you! I have taken in as much information from you and other advanced users of this union and also reading all the tactis tips threads and so on to realise that just because I have managed to complete the game on Spartan, that doesnt mean that I am ready to take the challenge of NUR, maybe that will come after I have done god mode and I am still tempted to try the NUR out on easy before I jump intoa deeper level or I might just go for all the NUR's in each difficulty level to practise even more exploitation of combat and so on.
That would be unnecessary. After beating God, you should at the very least deal with a Spartan NUR/NUR+. I'd advise going for a God NUR..NUR+ if you didn't find God very challenging. Easy is a joke so NUR condtions aren't really worthwhile to even practice in such a case.
Learning how she reacts to things helps. Medusa (Gorgon Queen) is quite fast and cannot be infinite air grabbed/OH'd. She can be pwned by usage of those and PR though. RotG...LAWL *she was given no chance then*
I tried 3 times to kill that B**ch with just using the blades and she was that damn fast by the time I had reacted to her she had moved! So by the 4th attempt I though screw this Im going to have you now wench and just unleashed rotg's on her and cornered her, I also noticed that whilst in RofG's that when she done her Gorgan stare she couldnt petrify me at all so I thought I had the upper hand and just whored heavy baiting attacks on her and she succombed to my way of playing!
You've got to note how she reacts to your hits. She can doge basic hits and if she does so, she will very likely do a FAST counter-attack. You can use a plume during her stare to interupt it..if you press and hold triangle quicly after it, you'll follow up with Ascension which grants a chance to use Orion's Harpoon, an air grab or you could *I haven't tried this in so long I don't recall if you can* try a juggle using the square combo ending in Spirit for significant damage..also PR usage to really screw her up. Corners are a great place to have her in before using it so she can't get away..also in air *even if only slightly*..she won't escape the full hit of PR that way. Rage has always been a shield against Gorgon petrification effects. You won't have RotG in a NUR/NUR+ at all since it is tied to the Blades (lvl2) in GoW1 *whereas it was treated as a relic in GoWII*. You'll need to learn to pwn her in another way next time around.
Have you practiced the Quick Roll/Dash Canceling methods of going faster? You should as it will help later to be good with those.
No I havent done that yet, I dont think I even know how to do it or if you have even mentioned to me how to execute that manouver, so a refresher on that would be good if you dont mind or point me in the right direction to read up on it as I have been reading the posts in several topics here tonight and noticed that you are dead busy with the videos and stuff and dont want to stop you from doing that as you have enough on your plate as it is.
Perhaps I haven't explained it just yet. You know of Hermes Rush do you not? (R1 leveled ability) Basically just roll, R1, roll, R1....repeat while steering with the left analog. Very easy to figure out. The other ways works in NUR conditions and is the only option for GoWII *Quick Rolling*. This is done by using a roll into an attack, canceled with another roll and so forth.
Ex: Roll, square,Roll, square,Roll, etc. *never allowing the attack to finish before another roll which is quickly followed by another attack*
Learning to steer that is often far harder...it will take practice to get good with..first you'll need to get the timing down. There are vids showing it is usage on YouTube. I don't know if any explain it outright though. This info should be sufficient for a trial on your part. If you cannot figure it out through d*cking around with this short explanation, videos will be in order I suppose.
Don't worry about a simple "That's not how I'd do it" from GMG..beware walls of text..they drop without warning >_>
Bring the walls of text on GMG! I would much prefer you to pick apart my method of doing something to be either done in a much more strategic way or a faster way to get a certain section out of the way. I prefer it like that as I find that with people picking things that I have done apart and explaining how they would do it or point me to places that explain how to do it I try to encorporate a little bit of everything that people have been telling me, so dont be afraid to wall text me.
And that's what I am doing little by little with these posts. Right now it isn't a good idea to overwhelm with all one could know just yet. I need you to first know the things I considered basic for God runs. Then we'll worry about the tactics/exploits that will help you rape in a NUR/NUR+. So start practicing what I've brought up thus far. It isn't quite time to worry about Homerun, Spike and Punt yet..you don't have Artemis.
~This is as too the point as I could have been here. Also, new vids up..
This was brilliant! It means that I am starting to learn and remember some of the information and tips that you have already given to me so you dont feel like you are repeating yourself or hitting your head against a wall. Also i will check out the new vids on Youtube as I have subscribed to you on there! Another learning curve for me!
Could be. Now to continue with that path and begin learning Quick Rolling, Rush/Roll cancels andInfinite Air Grab/OH. Perhaps later attack/special canceling will be in order *just to have that as an option*.
EDIT
If focus on physical attacks will be your thing throughout *unless desperate*..then you NEED to learn to use Artemis this time around..especially if you ever decide to do a NUR/NUR+ on God as it will be very useful against the 11 Hades Satyr battle.
I havent yet got this weapon as you know because it comes later on in the game, but I am certainly thinking about skilling myself up wth that weapon as one of the guides I linked you too previously recommended that i used the Artemis for taking down the huge minotaur, but because I was inexperienced with it I found it to be slow and not to my liking but I will certainly give it a go when I get to have it and upgrade it like fun as I am currently upgrading my chaos blades at the moment!
Don't bother leveling Artemis unless you plan on raping with the R1 Thrust canceling. lvl1 is perfectly fine for the best trick in its arsenal. *NUR destroyer in a few cases* At lvl3, you could pwn Pandora's Guardian with experience in handling it, proper tactics and familiarity with its attacks. I'd still suggest the easier route for a leveled run..which is the Blades.
Starting the Fight with RotG and back to back Tempest of the Fates until "O" appears works well. Then you get 1/2 of it all back upon doing the mini-game. Whore PR until "O" appears again. Now you have full RotG again. Use the Double Lever Pull Exploit. Rush to the "Sweet Spot". *there will be no armor stripping phase* Use RotG's Tempest of the Fates over and over plus a few PRs to destroy it in a hurry. VERY easy fight.
In a NUR, you could find that the Artemis strat is superior >_>

Know that I won't be going there to debate. If I decided to post in such a way..I'd provide proof in the form of Last Measure as a bomb waiting for anyone who used the link..not caring about who got hit..I'd need an extra account for that little stunt though.
~These debates are fruitless..but rubbing this in their face provides lulz and butthurt at DMC sites/boards so when I return to a certain troll targets board..I will have a little share with the boys *kekeke*
