As an avid shooter who graduated from basic in 1989, qualified expert with everything the US Army put in my hands at Fort Leonard Wood and continues to shoot just about every other weekend, hunting deer, turkey and pig...
the idea that any videogame could "train you to kill" or even shoot is complete garbage. The moment you pull the trigger and feel recoil everything you think you know would have to be relearned.
Could they desensitize you? Perhaps... but no more than TV, film or hip hop. In fact the "fantastic" quality of violence in games (in my view) triggers your brain to realize it's not real and free's you to get crazy with it.
BTW, similar to RenegadeGR- I'm much better in RL than on games- in fact it's the reason i quit Dust514, shots I make in RL with no problems at all were somehow impossible with future weapons from a thousand years in the future.
Who says it's supposed to be that kind of subjective?
Or to be more clear, subjective in the "I didn't enjoy the gameplay" vein is much different than "I didn't like the fact that Liverpool/ The Dallas Cowboys/ The NY Yankees/ or "team female" was rated... so i'm dropping the score" vein..
While the comments were heavy handed, the reviewer gave it a lesser score not on the quality of the game- but because she was playing for "team female" and didn't like the way it made "her team" look.
She put herself in the middle of the review, she made it about herself, she caught criticism for it.
No need to, limiting a game's score because you don't like the way women look in it is like limiting it's score because you don't like how good they say your favorite football team is in this year's FIFA game.
To put it simply.... if the weenie european leftists who run GS are "offended" by the content of GTA V, then I expect they'll refuse any advertising money from them in the future?
One of the things that makes GTA so powerful is the "non gaming" press it pulls- which isn't necessarily a good thing. You expect Glen Beck to say that it's released herald's the end of the world but a on a totally disconnected from gaming sports talk show i listen to the #2 topic today was "Grand Theft Auto and how horrible it is" and this was from 2 very liberal guys.
The entire claim they made was based on the hookers, strippers and random violence and completely ignored the expansive rich world, great story and compelling characters.... which is sad because i listen to this show and know these guys like Tarantino and the films of Deniro and Liotta like "goodfellas" and "casino"... which means whether they are smart enough to realize it or not, they also like Grand Theft Auto.
What's funny is the exact same people on here complaining about this game being misogynistic will then go support serial misogynists bill clinton, Barack Obama, Chris Matthews, Ed Shultz, Eliot Spitzer, Anthony Weiner etc, etc et al.
Well, It's something you are just going to have to accept if you're going to continue to visit this site. Gamespot is a politically correct company and they aren't happy with just reviewing the game on it's merits, they must force their politics on you as well.
They don't, at least not me. The only one that ever really did was RE2, other than that the most scared I've ever been in games were in DayZ and Eve Online... but not because of produced ambiance, because of the prospect of loss.
