I just bought my first Gamecube a couple weeks ago and I really love it.
I picked up a near mint Cube, extra controller, memory card and a couple games for $50. And have since bought RE 4, Rogue Squadron II for $9 each. I think I've got an awesome amount of entertainment for my $70. Price is definately right.
Also have to say that I've been out of the gaming loop for awhile. Never really stepped up to anything past the old SNES. Just got busy with work and family and didn't have the time.
But reached a point where I was missing playing some console games and my daughter (6 yrs old) is getting old enough to play along with me. Considered the XBox 360 and PS3 but didn't really want to drop that much money on something that I only get a real chance to play once in awhile. Considered also an original Xbox or PS2 but liked some of the game choices better for the Gamecube (mainly Mario games for my daughter). And I just wanted a gaming system....didn't need something to get on-line with or something to play DVD's.
And it's been a really great purchase and has got me back into video games again after having basically been away for a good 6-7 years. I think it's been worth it solely for Resident Evil 4. And my daughter has loved Mario Sunshine. And graphically, everything looks awesome, especially considering we were recently playing my old 8 bit NES!
So I think this system can still make alot of sense if you're needs are similar. I also considered buying a Wii because it would also play Cube games, but didn't even want to spend that much.
Overall, I'm really happy with it though and it fit perfectly for what I was looking for. I'll probably still end up moving to a next-gen system at some point, but that could be 2-3 years down the road when the prices drop to at least 1/2 what they are.
