Lao Zi

"Knowing others is intelligence; knowing yourself is true wisdom.

Mastering others is strength, mastering yourself is true power".

Highway Hovercops

I remember when I was 17 and couldn't wait to get my driver's licence. I'd drive around the country with friends at weekends just for the pleasure of driving. These days I only drive out of necessity, it's just no fun anymore. The public transport system in Holland seems to be gradually deteriorating in quality and service, so for me the car is just a conveniant way of getting from A to B. Had to go pick up Hub from the airport yesterday, and of course it was the middle of rush hour. There seems to be something about driving on busy roads which brings out the worst in people (including me I'm afraid! - oh shock, oh horror  Along the emergency lane a police car approaches, complete with sirens and flashing lights, and within about 5 seconds everyone got into their own lane, stopped honking and behaved like perfect gentlemen(and women). So I was thinking maybe it wouldn't be such a bad idea if we had "Hovercops" flying above all the traffic lanes. Then I am faced with the dilemma of either gradually seeing Orwell's Big Brother scenario becoming more of a reality than it already is or my right to privacy.....mmm..... Is there going to ever be a point when we will be willing to sacrifice this right for the "good of society' as a whole? I hope not.

Sometime they'll give a war and nobody will come. Carl Sandburg

A man will be imprisoned in a room with an unlocked door that opens inwards, as long as it does not occur to him to pull rather than push. Ludwig Wittgenstein

Journal Jousts?

At last I can access the Journal User Forums! Now if only GS fix the UCB problem I'll be a happy bunny. Judging by all the complaints in the GS support forums, seems nearly everyone is having problems of some kind since the "scheduled maintenance" down time a couple of weeks ago. Come to think of it that was the same weekend as my "Modem Meltdown" weekend as well......ooohh.......spooky!

Kindness in words creates confidence. Kindness in thinking creates profoundness. Kindness in giving creates love. Lao Tzu

I was searching for the perfect woman, when I found her she was searching for the perfect man. George Bernard Shaw

Online Oratory

Spent some time trying the Guild Wars beta demo and now at least I know, online is not for me. First two attempts with a group, but there seemed to be a committee meeting every 5 seconds about either trading or tactics; who, what, where and how. (C'mon guys, get a move on and let's fight dammit! I have things to do, places to go, not least of which is going cycling with the dog standing crosslegged at the door (well, I do the cycling, my dog can't reach the pedals)). Is it always like this? It was a pity because the game itself, while linear, wasn't too bad at all, and if it was RPG I'd preorder tomorrow. I could just about imagine that with a regular group of friends who all knew each other's gaming preferences, tactics etc., that it would be okay. Maybe I just was unlucky with the groups I had, or maybe it was just me, but I don't think I'll be playing online anytime soon. At least now I know! :)

Science may set limits to knowledge, but should not set limits to imagination

Bertrand Russell

Forum Follies

Exchanged PCs (temporarily) with hubby dearest (and they say that romance is dead!), so he can try out Guild Wars. Spent an enlightening evening reading forum posts. OMG call a doctor, the testosterone levels in there must be a health hazard!

Femme Fatale (or Vampire Versatility)?

Very interested in upcoming Vampire Masquerade Bloodlines so watched a few trailers. How do these (extremely) well-endowed ladies do it. They seem to defy the laws of gravity (what bounces down, bounces up = two black eyes, ouch!). Maybe they wear steel bras? (double ouch...). Game looks very promising anyway!

Oscar Wilde

"The only thing to do with good advice is pass it on. It is never any use to oneself..."

"I wouldn't want to join any club who would have me as a member ..."
