Bad news for people who like games that aren't broken on launch. Despite the performance issues, Jedi Survivor is doing very well for EA. So, expect more broken games in the future, because apparently most people don't care.

EA’s most recent earnings call for the quarter ending on March 31 does not include Star Wars Jedi: Survivor which launched on April 28. However, EA made a point to express that the game is performing very, very well this early.

According to EA, Jedi Survivor is performing “very strongly” against the internal expectations they set for the game, and also compared to its predecessor, Fallen Order, with millions of players already on board.

wish Nintendo would follow their competition's lead and put these out on PC. shame these games are trapped on such potato hardware without emulation.

Honestly, in a lot of cases no. No trouble following stories in books or movies/tv shows, but I tend to get caught thinking about what I want to do next in the game during cutscenes unless the storytelling is really compelling, or its a very narrative focused game.

If the story is more obtuse like in From Software games, no chance. I just run around killing things till credits roll.

I decided to replay Fallen Order while waiting for Jedi Survivor, partly because I half-assed my first playthrough and never even finished it, but also because Survivor is a direct sequel and I couldn't remember a damn thing about the first game's story or characters.

yes... I bought a used GPU and a TV from @BassMan lol

slightly embarrassed to admit I still use the TV even though its pretty ancient at this point, since I just don't have any compelling reason to upgrade.

Yeah, Teeth is such an asshole in real life. LOL, kidding of course. He is chill like me. :)

lol... games do bring out the temper now and then for both of us but very chill otherwise. Okay, maybe a small bit of road rage now and again for me that i'll admit to as well. just a bit though.

a remake of a game considered to be up there as a goat contender for many, vs two games known for their heavy handed story telling and cinematics, which this forum notoriously hates, the second of which was highly polarising even amongst the fan base... hmm i wonder which way this will go lol.

must admit get bored with the soapboxing on this forum from people about how much they hate movie games. "i prefer games with gameplay." yeah no shit, who doesn't. not saying criticism isn't well deserved in a lot of cases but it can all feel a bit too virtue signally for me at times.

i haven't finished re4r yet, but it's very good. i can see why it's so highly revered. but i also feel like i'm not going to get the same buzz out of it as those who played the original (i didn't). combat's good, it's challenging, the inventory management makes it more strategic and thoughtful. the puzzles are fun, it's cheesy as hell but it also feels a bit dated (naturally) in its formula. it's going to take something ridiculously special to knock demon's souls off its perch as my favourite remake. another game i never played first time round, and even though the original is four years older than re4, it's formula has aged much better for me.

unless i'm misunderstanding this sentence, i'm pretty sure the original Demon's Souls came out a number of years after the original RE4 release. I think you have it backwards.

I haven't played TLOU2 but I'd take RE4 over TLOU1, regardless of the version.

TLOU had a great story, but the pacing was off and I found it a slog to finish.

RE4 is pretty goofy story/character wise, but it's a masterclass of pacing, level design and gameplay. its just a ton of fun to play through.

None. Best to wait and see how the game is at launch.

yea, these days, this is really the only viable approach.

only exception is if the game has a proper beta or demo before it comes out, or is a Early Access game on steam where feedback is readily available.

even then, waiting for launch feedback is probably the right call.

I decided to replay Fallen Order while waiting for Jedi Survivor patches. When I played the game the first time, it was right before I retired as a game reviewer and I was just kinda burnt out on games, so I really half-assed my playthrough and I don't even think I finished it. Having a much better time with it this go around.

A few friends got me back into Insurgency Sandstorm since they are hosting their own server for co-op, and playing that again with those guys on a private server has been a lot of fun.

I'll probably pick up Darkest Dungeon 2 soon as well, which will probably be great.

I don't mind waiting if the end result is a complete, polished game (ala RDR2). but its frustrating when you wait years for a game that has clearly switched directions a bunch of times and the final product was just cobbled together in the last year or two and and is really half baked aka. stuff like Anthem, probably Suicide Squad, or over-ambitious and over-hyped projects that launch buggy and undercooked, ala Cyberpunk 2077

I think if people want big, polished games, then 4-5 year dev cycles should be the expectation. 2-3 years can produce stuff like Ubisoft's output over the last decade or so, or Call of Duty, for AAA productions.
