@hardwenzen: Never seen in the AAA space because it was never a AAA game. LOL

By your logic, State of Decay 3 will also be AAA because it has a pretty CG trailer. Even though the game has not been shown at all. Clown logic.

I gotta side with mr. Wenzen on this one. Redfall is being sold as a $70 game ($90 in Canada). that is a AAA game price, so it should be judged by AAA game standards

I think it depends on the person... If you are in a bad situation with pay, co-workers/boss, being overworked etc. then obviously you should leave.

I think beyond that, it depends on how career focused you are... I've been at my company for almost 8 years, and even though i'm not super inspired by my work anymore, its an awesome company to work at, fairly low stress, and pays enough to support my life style comfortably. I'm not excited to start my work day, but I don't dread it either. I do my job, do it well, but I don't make a big effort to go above and beyond.

I know people who wouldn't be satisfied with that, who are very career focused and want to get promoted/climb the ladder and be constantly challenged etc. but I'm more focused on enjoying my life outside of work, and not having a job that prevents me from doing that or gets in the way.

I like seeing devs branch out, as long as the desire to do so comes internally and isn't forced upon them from a publisher.

Eg. the difference between High Fi Rush and Redfall as recent examples

Unity over spent and they are now correcting this overspending and hopefully focusing on the engine instead of creating more and more services.

this is a common thread for a lot of the layoffs happening at big tech companies

Should someone only use Windows when building a PC, or would Linux be ok? I prefer Linux, but I don't know how well it handles games.

I think some games run on linux, but not all - would need to do the research and look at the games you want to play, to see if Linux is supported. In general, you are better off with Windows though for strictly gaming purposes.

I had a friend who dual-booted his PC, ie. had both windows and Linux installed, would use windows for gaming and linux for everything else. I don't think that is too hard to set up

Like the wise fellow above me, I try and do something active. It takes the edge off and makes me feel I've harnessed the momentum a bit.

After a fair amount of ranting and cursing, that is, lol.

yes, ranting and cursing before the activity is a important part of the process.

@randy_lahey: Making you look like an ass is too damn easy.😂

I don't think they put as much value in sales of their software when it is on Gamepass but they would monitor engagement and that should affect future outcomes.

What I think is interesting is that they said that their internal reviews were positive. I am more interested in the workings of that process. 🤔

maybe the internal reviewers were afraid they'd get canned if they were too harsh/honest? I'm also confused by what Phil means when he said the mock reviews got "double digits."

is 60 not a double digit number?

imagining some conversation where some underling is like "ah shit, Phil wants to know how the internal reviews went. what do we tell him??" "ah just tell him they got double digits and see what happens"

for sure, but you'd think MS would still want to check in occasionally to make sure the product being delivered under their name is up to at least some standard of quality. especially when the publisher has a recent history of some very dodgy releases.

If the finances are not throwing a red flag, then nope. The only time these companies react is when it hurts their bottom line. Internet raging, low scores, etc only matter when it affects the finances.

yea, you are probably right. I guess all we can do is hope Redfall sells very poorly (and that MS interprets that in a way that will ultimately benefit gamers, not in a "we need to dismantle the studio" kind of way)

has a similar vibe to when EA forced Visceral Games to make a BF title, which I believe resulted in that studio being dismantled after it bombed if I'm remembering correctly (only it wasn't MS that wanted Arkane to make a co-op loot shooter in this case)
