Thoughts on the Press Conferences.

Well, after watching three press conferences I've decided to share my thoughts on each of them.

Microsoft's conference was very poor. Since GameSpot's video player is so broken, I missed the Gears of War 3 footage. But I did manage to see Halo Reach which is looking great so far. But unfortunately that was the only thing worthwhile to watch, the rest of conference was focused on that new Kinect technology, which I can't imagine anyone buying. No other games were shown, and I got so bored with the rambling of Kinect that I turned off the player. Very disappointing.

EA's conference was great on the other hand. Seeing Dead Space 2 footage and the announcement of its release date was the best moment of E3 so far. They also had many other cool things like the new Medal of Honor, which is looking good so far. Also Joe Montana appearing on stage when they were showing off Madden 2011 was neat too.

Nintendo's conference was alright, but it could've been better. I was hoping they were going to announce a new Pikmin or Star Fox, but they didn't. However, the announcement of GoldenEye coming to the Wii caught my attention, I'll have to keep an eye on that. But other than that, most of the games along with the 3DS didn't interest me.

Strange, I Don't Feel Like an Adult.

It's been awhile. But that's what happens when school keeps you busy, especially at the end of the year. Just a few more days, and I'll have nothing to worry about for months.

It was recently my birthday, I can't believe I'm 18. Man, am I getting old. :P Anyway, I got a few games and I would just like to share my insight on each of them.

Dead Rising Boxshot

I don't know why I didn't get this years ago. All can say is that Dead Rising is a blast. Everything is a weapon, and there's no shortage of zombies to use them on. The only problem with this game, is that it has an awful saving system. But other than that, it's really fun.

Dead Space Extraction Boxshot

I'm really not a fan of light gun shooters, but Dead Space: Extraction has to be one the best ones out there. Tons of environments to explore, and a wide arsenal of weapons is what made this so enjoyable. If you liked Dead Space, then you'll want to check this one out.

Super Mario Galaxy 2 Boxshot

Simply fantastic are the only words to describe Super Mario Galaxy 2. The worlds to explore are fun and challenging, the new items are cool, and of course Yoshi helps out very much with many of the levels. An amazing game that every Wii owner should get.

A Nightmare on Elm Street.

The man of your dreams; Freddy Krueger is back after a seven year absence. The original Nightmare on Elm Street is my favorite slasher film ever. When I heard that a re-make was coming out, I was excited but honestly I really wasn't expecting much.

But after seeing it, I can say it's actually quite a good movie. It was definitely scary, and it paid homages to the original. This is the first Nightmare on Elm Street without Robert Englund, who has played Freddy Krueger in every entry. Jackie Earle Haley takes the role and does a fantastic job. Surprisingly there's a good supporting cast as well, which came to me as a surprise since normally they're all annoying and find yourself literally rooting for the killer throughout the whole movie. Another surprising thing in this movie is that there's no drugs, alcohol, or nudity. All three are common in slasher films, but I guess the impossible can happen. :P The only thing I didn't like was that they changed Freddy's back story on how he became a killer.

So overall it's a pretty good movie. The original is still the best, but this is a worthy re-make of a horror classic.

Portal 2 Announcement: Why It's Bitter Sweet.

You guys probably know by now that Valve has recently announced the release plans for their new game Portal 2. It really surprised me since Valve is so secretive of their games.

But before the announcement, Valve had added new updates through the original Portal. The updates included strange radio signals that could be heard if you stood in a certain place that turned out to be codes, along with a different ending sequence once you had beaten the game.

How people figured out the codes is beyond me, but they contained cryptic images that gave hints to Portal 2, or Half-Life 2: Episode Three, or both. But all the hints ended up being for Portal 2 unfortunately.

Don't get me wrong, Portal is one of the most original, innovative, and suspenseful games I've ever played. But it's just I've been waiting for Half-Life 2: Episode Three for so long, that I thought Valve was planning the release of an Orange Box 2 that would have both games packaged into it.

So I'm looking forward to Portal 2, and maybe it will contain hints for Half-Life 2: Episode Three since both franchises take place in the same universe. Either that or Valve is saving the best for last.

BioShock 2.

First purchase of the year, and it's one I've been waiting to play ever since it was announced.

The first BioShock is one of the most amazing games I've ever played. With unique and innovative game play, and a great story with shocking twists and turns, it definitely goes down as one of my all-time favorites.

So far it's great game like I expected. All the familiar game play mechanics from the first BioShock are back, along with new ones that work out well too. The graphics look great, and I love the classic tunes from the 1940's and 1950's that play in the background. Last, the story so far has been interesting. I'm not that far into the game, but I look forward to the plot twists that are sure to happen.

Overall, if you liked the first BioShock, then the sequel won't disappoint you.

Super Bowl XLIV.

It's that time again, the world championship of professional football. It's the Indianapolis Colts versus the New Orleans Saints.

I was surprised to see New Orleans in this one, but that seems to be the trend lately with many underdog teams breaking out and making their first Super Bowl appearance. Normally I do root for the underdog, but I'm kind of going with Indianapolis in this one. They've always been one of my favorite teams.

Best of luck to both teams.

Sonic the Hedgehog 4.

Wow, after sixteen years we've finally got a Sonic the Hedgehog 4 coming our way. It seems Sega is going to divide this entry into episodes, kind of like with the Half-Life 2 games.

Normally I would be excited, but since this is a game you have to download off of WiiWare or Xbox Live; I'm really out of luck since neither of my consoles are hooked up to the internet.

Man, I can't believe I'm going to miss this one.

New Year's Eve.

Oh man, where does the time go? I know I say that a lot, but that's really the only thing I can say for New Year's Eve. Hard to believe it will be ten years ago that the new millennium started.

All I can say was that 2009 was personally an ok year, and here's hoping for a better future in 2010.

Happy New Year everyone. :)

Merry Christmas.

Yeah I know it's a little late, but it's still technically Christmas.

Mine was pretty good. I got Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, New Super Mario Bros. Wii, three of the Die Hard movies, the movie The Big Lebowski, and a new iPod.

I hope everyone else had a great Christmas this year. :) Since it's the season of giving, I thought I would just share some of these videos here.

Avatar.

I had really high expectations for Avatar once I learned it was a film by James Cameron. The man who made The Terminator, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, and Aliens. All three are some of the best films I had ever seen. Although I was a bit skeptical about the plot, it started looking weird and hooky as I read the details.

But I went and saw it, and I'm glad I had high expectations. Avatar was a really good movie. The plot was still a little weird, but it was straight forward and that's what made it enjoyable. The actors did a good job, and nearly all the characters had great dialogue and were likable. But what really stole the show was the special effects. Every creature, gadget, and robot all looked so real it almost felt like they were there in the theatre.

The only thing I didn't like was the ending. I just feel I would've liked the movie more if it had ended differently.

So overall, it's a pretty good movie. I highly recommend you see it in 3D to get the full experience.
