Yeah I knew that much, but really did not seem like much of an advantage. Just splits and duplicates data on the both drives. Strange idea, seems to be a waste unless there is a large performance difference

RAAAIIIIDD????

Well, been reading some about RAID.

I had planned on using a separate HD 250gb to run my os. Then I have 3 other drives 2 external and 1 internal to save games and other media. (total of 2 terabytes) . But I am a bit confused about RAID.

What are the real world advantages? If I am already using a separate HD for the OS and have a external backup of everything already?

Thanks guys as usual.

Also if you think RAID is the way, any sites that can help me understand it better and how to set it up?

Well, all of my gaming is done through high quality headphones. But I am a bit of an audiophile. I can justify the cost easy enough, but only if the increase in quality and performance is worht the extra money. If it would be only a minimal difference and possible conflicts then nutz to that.

Still on the fence...Seems like the EVGA 780i has some good sound onboard already, just not sure if a dedicated card would really make that much difference.

Well I do save ALOT of media. But I have a terabyte of storage in powerbooks. So I offload my documents folder every month and double back up to be extra safe (and portable).

So a 250 would be plenty. Right?

I also wondered about the ability to use the caviar and a baracuda together, they run at different speeds, would this present a problem? baracuda is 7200 caviar is 5200, i think, maybe im wrong.

I currently have a cavier 750.

What size drive would be good for the os? I have a deal on a barracuda 250gb right now. Would that be big enough. I realize it will for windows, but is there any other advantage. Can a drive be too small for just an os?
