I wonder if those who defend such price structures would feel the same if it were milk or gas? If Gas was 7.00 a gallon we would HAVE to pay for it to survive. (keep your job, go to the doctor). Would that be fair? I guess since its a luxury item its not the same. But get people used to this type of thing on the luxury stuff, then you can wack em for stuff they need. Have you seen the price of milk lately? 4.00 a gallon, more expensive than gas per gallon, and I say thats a needed item for people, especially children.

Lookat this...

http://www.evga.com/forums/tm.asp?m=205631

and this

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188024

Still seems excessive to me, no matter what. Especially when most other retailers are not gouging. It also seems to me that Newegg somehow gets things first....

anyone else notice this?

I stand corrected. I guess I expected New Egg to be a bit more stable than your average trendy car salesman! :)

(by the way I have a mini cooper, paid below sticker)

Still, who do you shop with, and is the service really that much worse in other retailers? Most of the time you end up dealing with the manufacturer for problems anyway right? Thats why I bought EVGA, ever tried to call Asus for anything?

Funny Story,

Called Asus following is a rough transcript.

Asus Tech : hello , thank you for calling Asus can I help you?

Me: Yes I was wondering if the new MOBO you have can support 2 way sli as well as 3 way.

Asus Tech guy: It will only support quad Sli.

Me: What? Quad SLI? I was not aware of any board supporting Quad Sli yet?

Asus Tech: Yes I have confirmed it here in my computer, It supports Quad Sli.

Me: What about the 45n Chips, what support will it have for those

Asus Tech: It will not support them.

Me; I thought that was the main selling point?

Asus Tech: No it will not support any new chips

Me: Dude I dont think you know what your talking about ( I knew that it supported duo core, was not sure about Yorkfield)

Asus Tech: Let me transfer you to someone that can help.

5 minutes on hold.....

10 minutes on hold...........

15 minutes on hold...........

Gave up.

Called Evga with simliar questions On and off in 10 minutes.

If you talking about this kind of difference in service then maybe the 75% markup is worth it, but I just don't think New egg is that much better than Zipzoom or directron or tiger.

That probably has to do with there automatic pricing system that takes stock into account, especially considering I can't find a single 780i board on there site now.

While I do notice somethings costing more there than other places, I just buy those items where ever has the best deal. But in best deal I take newegg quick shipping and customer service into consideration. So for a few dollars more I will still probably go with the EGG. Now I got my mobo and CPU from ClubIT. Newegg was outta stock on the Maximus Formula SE, and ClubIT, unlike newegg, could guarantee I get the G0 stepping Q6600.

But I do love neweggs customer support. I made an order last Wednesday, a case, pci card, flash drive, and some ram. The case was this one, $70 minus $20 promotional code, minus $50 mail in rebate. So it will only cost me $17.72 (shipping) after the rebate.

Well the case came Monday. But the other items had still not shipped. I contacted there support to see if there were any problems, and they told me there had been a back-up and it would ship that day. Also since they had not shipped it within 48 hours they refunded my shipping, so I got a free case.

I have had very few minor issues with newegg, and there customer support made them right almost immediately.

ch5richards

How did you get them to guarentee g0 stepping? Im buying the same cpu

I agree with most of the comment here.

But Last time I checked a 50-100% price increase is gouging. Its one thing to make a profit on a high demand item, but you have to remember that alot of these corps have "ins" with the manufacturer. Ever notice newegg seems to get the newest hardware first? They are the only ones with the 780i asus board now, they were first (and only I saw ) who had the evga 780i.

Seems a bit underhanded since the manufacturer sets the retail price, this is one of the only businesses where this kind of increase is accepted. Imagine paying 50-100% more for a car that was in demand!!!!

New egg, who I have bought alot of components from, has gone off the deep end as of late, especially with new items.

Case and Point, Evga's 780i when last available was 349.00!!! The Manufacturer lists it as 259.00 What's this about? I called evga and the rep couldnt believe it either.

Same goes with the new Asus 780i. More than 50% markup? I can't believe it personally, but theres a sucker born every minute and I guess bragging rights cost alot more that I thought.

But seems to me lately everybody is cheaper than New egg (unless there is some sort of rebate or its on special)

Anyone else seem to feel this way? Who are you buying from. I got my MOBO from zipzoomfly for 25.00 cheaper than newegg AND I got a rebate.
