Preschoolers? I don't know about that! I mentioned this in another thread but I'm an old man at 35 and had never played any Pokemon titles until recently. I just finished off LeafGreen and had a whole lot of fun with it. There's quite a bit of strategy involved. I don't think there are all that many Pokemon that qualify as "cute and cuddly" either.
I'd also never seen the show before. Watched an episode with my kids this weekend and can't say I enjoyed it. I found it to be pretty dumbed down, lowest common denominator kids-will-watch-anything sort of fare. My own children liked it but they are more or less passive consumers of entertainment. It definitely doesn't have the crossover appeal that the games do.
I'm guessing you weren't being entirely serious but banning a topic that a lot of people obviously enjoy seems pretty fascist, don't you think? You could always choose not to read or participate in the threads if Pokemon bugs you that much.
Just call me Grandpa. I'm a 35 year old male. My eight year old twins are closer in age to a lot of you than I am, ha ha. They got GBA SP's last summer but I think I play more than they do. I had NES back in my teen years but didn't buy any other consoles between then and when we got a GameCube a couple of years ago. So all of these awesome GBA games are brand new to me. I'd never played any of the Pokemon titles, for example. Right now I'm about 52 hours into LeafGreen and having a blast!
We got Super Mario Sunshine and Animal Crossing to start with, but before we bought our own GC I had borrowed a friend's for a few months along with Rogue Squadron II and Metroid Prime.
