Indeed, Blu-Ray is the single most important product in Sony's agenda right now.nopalversion
While I think you're right, I think this is a really bad call on the part of Sony. You can bet that MS is already thinking about the basic architecture of the next xbox, and given that HDDVD seems to be a non-starter, I suspect they'll choose to go with no optical drive of any kind (DVD or otherwise) rather than surrender to blu-ray. With the money spared on that drive, they will probably be able to include a 1TB hard drive in their new console. With enhanced copyright protection and streamlined servers, the obvious medium for MS to choose for HD movies and games is ... no (physical) medium.

The strength of the overall industry continues to surprise me. Growth numbers like 40%+ are crazy for an industry that (imo) ran out of new ideas a decade ago. I've enjoyed the bits of Halo 3, SMG, and COD4 that I've played at friends' houses, but I'll be damned if I'm going to invest large amounts of time in them. I'm really amazed at the level of enthusiasm for this stuff. Don't people ski or travel or have better things to do with their time and money?

I have no problem with the concept of Wii Fit. I just don't think it sounds very fun.

As far as fitness/game hybrids go, I would much rather see a quality stationary bike manufacturer team up with a game developer to create a bike that interfaces with a BMX / excitebike style on/offroad race game.

England lost because they have crap players, crap coaches and crap youth devlopment not because of video games.EasyStreet
... and you're certain that videogames have no effect on the crap youth development how?

It used to be that boys scored higher than girls in maths, sciences, AND reading comprehension tests in school. Now girls are moving ahead in most areas. Themajor changethat most researchers have identified in recent years is the enormous number of hours devoted to videogames ... almost exclusively by boys.

What does this have to do with Nintendo propaganda? The secret of your success is that you have found a retailer with Wiis in stock (discounted at that). I've yet to see this.

[QUOTE="Pedro"]Its kind of naive to think that OOT is the best game ever. I am sure that there are many people who enjoyed other games significantly more that OOT.dvader654

Of course there are, there is never one best game for everyone. But the closest the entire gaming scene has come to a consensus is definetly Zelda: OoT.

I doubt that a majority of gamers would pick OoT as "the best game ever." It might receive more votes that way than any other game, but it would still be a small minority of gamers. I would hope that most serious gamers could not and would not pick any game as being "best".

This proves that Miyamoto is the best ever AND that Nintendo makes the best games when they give it their best.ASK_Story
Best? If a poll showed that the Beatles were the most popular rock band of all time and that Hey Jude was the top ranked song, would that make Hey Jude the best song ever?

These games have received the highest average review scores. Let's just leave it at that.

I dunno, I myself don't feel bad about my appearance, but I do notice that all female characters in games promote that super model look and do insane stunts whilst keeping perky big boobs (I said that as serious as I could...).

As for race, everytime Capcom tries, everyone calls them racist (Resident Evil 5...).

-shmelo-
The thing that cracks me up about the boobs in videogames is that they are almost always spherical like breast implants. Does the ideal female body now have to have big fake boobs? Are big fake boobs more desirable than big natural boobs...or are the geeks who draw these characters just unaware of whatnatural boobs look like?

I think Microsoft's machine has all the potential for becoming something huge... Shame-usBlackley
I'm not so sure it does. The only way that I can see the 360 rivaling PS2 type numbers is if they dropped the price to $99 or something. However, in that type of scenerio I think they would capture a lot of customers who buy only a couple titles a year ... and old ones at discounted prices at that. MS knows that is not a profitable game to play.

The way I see it, the 360 already has the guys who love gaming more than ever and who buy a couple games a month (at full price). This is the market that MS wants.

On the other hand, Nintendo has found a way to make profit on the "casual" crowd. That way is to sell an inexpensive system at a premium price so that they actually make money on the hardware. That's a special situation and not one that I think anyone else could reproduce. As Carnage mentioned, Nintendo also has a following of faithful who will buy the majority of their big first party offerings and that pretty much locks in the big profits.

I also believe that there is a large number of the former PS2 crowd who don't see anything offered by anyone that really adds much to what they could play on the PS2. I'm one of these. I think Nintendo is trying the hardest to grab my attention with their new control system, but they have yet to convince me that they have any games that play better than they would on another console. I think most people like me refuse to bite on any new console.

I really can't see any of these systems achieving "success" if you choose to measure that success against PS2 type hardware and software sales. The fact that the 360 is even coming close on the software front is very impressive. To me it indicates that the market is really split with the 360 capturing a relatively small, but very ravenous crowd of game consumers.

I think declaring the Wii as the winner of the console wars for this generation is a bit premature ...and a lot misleading. While the Wii might surpass the 360 in units sold, it's questionable that it will surpass it in terms of hardware $$$ spent by consumers. Also, in terms of software it appears that the Wii will come nowhere close. GH3 as an example of 3rd party software selling on the Wii is a special case. I doubt any 3rd party dev who intends to work on some new shooter or rpg will see GH3 sales as an indication of their potential success in developing for the Wii. Aside from the occasional minigame, rhythm game, or puzzle, the Wii will continue to be viewed as a vehicle for Nintendo alone to make $$$.

The way I see it, the 360 has and will win the console wars from the perspective of software sales and 3rd party support. I think optimism about the PS3 price cut is premature. Once again, software should be the indicator of choice, and softwareindicates that the PS3 is little more than a dead system. I think 3rd party devs and future system buyers will see it that way. Anyone who wants to make money on software this generation knows they have to publish on the 360.

I say this as a fan and owner of none of these systems.
