No it doesnt have a PCI-e connector, they make that little converter that you may get with the card, that turns the PCI-e power receptical into a two molex connector, but ive had bad experiences with that.

Looks to me like they dont want you changing the GPU, disadvantages of a prebuilt. It looks like there are black screws holding it down, but I couldnt really tell. Ive never seen that before. I didnt see a PCI-e connector on the PSU but I couldnt really tell in the picuture.

That really doesnt show us anything, can you take a pic of the back of your case? I dont quite know what you mean by a black strip covering it up.

Just make sure the 4 pin CPU power connector is plugged in. Other than that it probably is a bad PSU, if it is, it could have fried some other components. RMA it if possible. HSF installed wrong will also do this, and fry the CPU, however it will usually still turn on(fans spinning).

cover? you removed the shroud over the heatsink and fan? I hope not, either way put that back on. The 8600 goes into the PCI-e slot, which on my mobo is green and blue, your's can and probably will be different colors. But they are longer than the pci slots. Just align the card with the slot, and make sure the bracket is on the left, and slide the card into the slot, it should take a "little" pressure to seat the card, but not much. Also your PSU may not have a PCI-e power connector, and if it doesnt then you cant use the card. I thought the 8600gs didnt require a power connector but I guess they do. Its a 6 pin connector, and it will be labeled PCI-E, plug that into the right side of the graphics card you'll see where it goes. Then boot up, and set your resolution, and install drivers, there are about 100 videos of people doing this on youtube, I suggest you watch a couple before doing it. Also make sure you ground yourself.
