Next Xbox in 2012, PS4 dev ramping up - Report

I want the "Next Generation" in gaming X BOX and PS4, Ive been waiting for awhile now, PC gamer here! If Game developers made mul ti-core video games a diff rent way than I would say you could stick to your out dated hardware, but they don't so both of the consoles hardware as to be up to date with the PC 's hardware. That's my opinion! LGA 20 11 Socket, X79 Express Chip set and Sandy bridge processors plus DX 11 Graphic Cards, just around the corner is 22 nm ivy bridge processors, the memroy is outrageous 2133 MHz + 64GB of memory! "Next generation" in gaming should of been here all ready! If the console makers would stop putting add-on with the consoles and put the consoles at a reasonable price they will still make money! I'm not hating I just want better video games!!! As a PC gamer I get mad because I know video games have much more potential!!! It's going to be 20 12 console makers bring in the "New Year Right"!!!

This doesn't make any sense. One company wants to make another system, but the other company thinks they'll lose business so they have to make another console. Why can't the company's be happy with what they have and leave us alone. Yes we do want another console, but not this early in the year. Plus i don't think many people would buy it since the other consoles haven't been out that long. Well if they do, it had better be good.

we all know that the GPU and CPU would be more and more powerful in both systems,but the question is Are they going to put many memory inside? or they just gonna put 1gb of memory ?!?! which might be fine but 2 years from now that would be consider as nothing so lets hope they put at least 2gb of fast memory.

If the next consoles do come out the next year, it'll take at least a year before they have a decent list of titles available for them. Its not like developers are gonna shun the current gen consoles for good - it's gonna be a gradual movement which will take two years from now. So although people say not for another two years, it is actually going to take two years to get people to own the next consoles. And it will take two years if they start developing now !!!

@Rocker6, I agree graphics aren't everything. I just feel we already have games with epic gameplay that are let down by aging graphics :) I believe we'll see many innovations and improvements in the next gen systems. Better graphics is the one I want most!

Good! About time. Console games have reached their limits 2 years ago. We need faster RAM, more cores and most of all, a new GPU that is not limiting the imagination of artists. If you really think it doesn't get any better than current graphics, please take a look at your favorite cinematic game trailer.Yes. This is where games will go. Period. already gta iv is too lagy (if u want to play a smooth game) it is late for a new console

i think it is about time companies start releasing next gen consoles. pc gaming is really pulling away wen it comes to graphics. battlefield 3 just looks insanely good on the pc compared to the console version

@killered3 not going to argue all your points but i will say anything you buy on either console can be downloaded indefinitely especially on the xbox. the xbox even allows different machines only thing is you have to be connected to the internet sign on with the account that purchased it. ps3 is the same way for now this will be removed in the next update.

@Albaficas You really need to calm down. In the end it's about preference. I have a 360 a psp and a ds and I like the games I have for each. Yeah Sony has more exclusives but if those exclusives don't really interest someone it doesn't really matter. The Sony exclusives I liked I have psp games for with the exception of Killzone because the bird's eye view killzone for psp just didn't interest me. In the end I like Halo and I received the 360 as a present because of that fact. I'm happy with my purchase and I'm good. If someone wants to bash your system just ignore them or at least respond less hostilely. I have a number of friends who just own a ps3 and if they want to talk about Uncharted or how they beat resistance I'm cool with that. Speaking of Resistance, the title isn't dead. Insomniac is just moving on, that doesn't mean another developer won't pick it up. Also Gears of War I've heard is working on a prequel trilogy. And xbox has had more than 2 IPs. As exclusives we still have 4 plus a number of xbla ones. And Fable does count. The kinect fable is a side story. Fable 4 and 5 are meant to be non-kinect exclusive titles. I hope you enjoy your ps3 and I'll enjoy my 360.

Question is are there games out there that even taxed the current X360 or PS3? ...if there isn't...it simply just too soon.

hopefully $ony gives us couple more years out of PS3 like they claim we suppose to get out of it. i don't think $ony will rush out a console because M$ is putting out a console. they already proved they don't need to launch a console the same time as M$ to catch up or outsell them. Regardless to when the next PS is release i'm getting it. :D

I'd be happy with the next-gen consoles arriving around Christmas 2013. Any earlier would be too soon. Also, if the price tag was around £250 mark I'd go out and bag one up on release day.

Frankly, I'd be just fine with not seeing new consoles until 2014 or 2015 even. My wallet would thank them as well.

I don't know why microsoft would make a xbox slim if a new system was going to come out real soon. People are not made of money. It's too early for another system to come out. These company's should stop with the console wars and enjoy the systems that they have now. Another system can come out in a few more years.

Consoles seem to have a 5-6 year lifespan, so i guess its about right in terms of timing to see the next gen in 2012. I still feel its a bit too soon though. Could do with a couple more years of game developers being at the top of their game with the current gen.

I really don't need another PlayStation.... It's kinda early for this being that (and idk for Xbox) PS3 only just got affordable around 2-3 years ago with the Slim, and all the systems support HDMI, and newer games (some of them) are 3D compatible with the exception of Wii, so if anyone needs a new console it'd just be Nintendo.... Can consoles even get any better at this point? not by much..... unless you count new hardware for 360 that doesn't crap out in a few years or have a 56% failure rate.... but not really worth coming out with something completely new.

Well I guess it's getting about that time. I thought I might get another year before next gen consoles came out. Well let's just make sure the consoles are ready before they are launched.

I REALLY don't want Microsoft to rush it. Last thing we need is a console like the original Xbox 360 that dies after 2 years. Because one thing is sure, I'm def. not going through this hassle again when I can get the same game on Wii U and PS4.

@Albaficas don't act like you know everything, what made you so sure just cause a game is a "trilogy"..that'll prevent devs from making games of the same title? e.g. gears & resistance

i think they need to slow down. I mean, give me another year or two and then I'll be ready. There is not much else they can add to a new console at least not at this current time. All I can really see is a graphics improvement and more features that current consoles can't support. I say wait until 2013-2014. Why the rush? 2012 is just to early for microsoft and sony. Maybe not nintendo because they've need a new console for quite some time now.

@chimpdaddy well good for you play your smelly tablet/smartphone whatever they are called because i dont count a thing you do to amuse yourself for a few minutes on a train or doctors office to be a "true" game. and take your PC elitist out of this just like everyone else because when you dont have an existing rig to upgrade for the same price or the option to beg mommy and daddy for a $1000 rig. thats why people by consoles. and btw for the people who are going to tell me "hey its only $600 if you know where to buy pc parts" thats nonsensical because while console graphics now may not be as good as pc, just to get the same graphics out of a PC that you do out of a current gen sonsole is going to run almost $900+

backwards compatability and profile import or GTFO i dont need graphics that bad at the moment if i have to shell out $300-$400 for a console next year. at least make a trade-in program for people who JUST BOUGHT the new slim to replace the old pro.

perfect timing for microsoft. take everyone's money juuust before the world ends. lol kidding. seriously tho this is no surprise to me. Besides the article is mainly about xbox. There is no mention of the PS4's potential release date. Id imagine it will come a year after the next xbox. Holiday season 2013.

We're finally to a point where developers are able to squeeze out every drop of potential from the current consoles to make some truly beautiful games. Why the rush to move on when they could get a few more good years out of the 360 and PS3? Why make them have to get familiar with a whole new platform when they can finally use the current ones to masterful effect? Who is in such a hurry to plunk down another 4 or 5 hundred dollars for a new console? Not me. Sure PC games look better, but that will always be true so it's kind of pointless to bring up and there are still some stunning games on consoles. Look at the PS2's later years. Some of it's best (and best looking) games came out just before and after the release of the PS3.

@Albaficus Dude, calm down, you're trying WAY too hard. 3 posts in a row? You're defending your precious PS3 way too hard. Besides, you left Resistance off your list, which I happen to enjoy. Wanna know what else I enjoy? Gears of war and halo. OMG! You mean it's possible to like all of them!?

@ Kooken58 I understand what you mean. YES there is a difference but when you play the games, press the buttons to take cover , shoot... When you press x to jump on a set path its all the same. YES again it looks better, but it does not add much more to the experience. Play God of war on PS2 then GOW 3 on PS3 YES it looks amzing and a LOT more detailed than the first game but IS it soo much better that its like playing a totally different game... Same with Halo and the newest Halo: Reach. NOT mind blowing different. ... ... ... _ _ _ _ _ - _ - _ The difference I am talking about is more like the differenec between say SNES and N64, Sega Genisus to Xbox, 8bit to 16bit, PSX to PS3. Play Super Mario then Mario 64 and you will see the difference I want to see with Next Gen.

It always take developers about a year after a console launch to really start making titles that go in line with the consoles potential. Looking forward to the next generation of consoles but I'm not expecting anything but updated graphics on day 1.

@rarson And who cares about PC and DX11! I love consoles so I dont waste my money on some PC that have one or three good games! PC dont have Final Fantasy, Tekken 6, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Dragon Ball, jRPGs so who cares about graphics! :P

XanderZane blu ray OWNED HD DVD in the first year of competition. HD DVD is now dead Blu ray is the new "DVD" deal with it

I have absolutely no interest in buying a new console any time soon. I don't see a need for it. Consoles have a longer life span now than they used to. If a new Xbox comes out next year I'll pass. We really don't need another generation of consoles for a least another 2 or 3 years yet.

@scatterbrain007 Too early for this? our hardware is 6 years old. B3 (on the PC) shows how good games can actually look and perform. Now imagine that level of performance for single player games like the next Elder Scrolls, Fallout, the next Bioware game, etc. Almost all our games are capped off at 30 FPS because of the trade-off between performance and graphics. I want to break from this bondage atleast for the next 5-7 years.

@Gedden Microsoft actually didn't lose much. The HD-DVD was never an internal part of the XBox 360. It was an add-on basically for playing HD-DVD movies. It wasn't even used for games. They might have losed a few $$'s on the hardware attachment, but the lose was minor. Sony had more to lose with Blu-Ray because they had it built into all their PS3. If it had fail, it would have been a disaster. Initially when Blu-Ray and HD-DVD were released, Blu-Ray had the most storage, but HD-DVD had the better quality for movies. It took Sony several months to finally get their quality in check. As for XBox 360, it will most likely have a Blu-Ray drive or some similar that easily hold 25-30GB of uncompressed data. I doubt they will still with regular DVD's. That would be a big mistake.
