Nintendo holding Wii U event Sept. 13

NOA president Reggie Fils-Aime to discuss "how the Wii U will change the future of gaming" at NYC briefing next month; release date, price expected.

Nintendo will hold a media event in New York City on September 13, the company told GameSpot this afternoon. Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime will present at the briefing, discussing "more about how the Wii U will change the future of gaming and entertainment."

Will Nintendo finally announce the Wii U price and release date next month?
Will Nintendo finally announce the Wii U price and release date next month?

Two major questions surrounding the Wii U remain: When during this holiday season will it be released? And how much will it cost? The last time Nintendo held an event in New York City hosted by Fils-Aime, the company announced the release date and price for the 3DS. The event took place in January 2011, with the 3DS arriving in the United States during March of that year.

Though Nintendo has remained silent on a price and release date for the Wii U, that hasn't stopped speculation from pouring in. The latest scuttlebutt is that the console will launch in the United States the week of Thanksgiving and the Black Friday shopping period. As for a price, Wedbush Securities analyst Michael Pachter believes the system must launch at $250 or less to be viable.

@servb0ts

Indeed, it's a new system so consumers should easily be willing to pay $300 for it, MAYBE $350.

@bananaclawz Nintendo gives off it's own negative vibes, they have horrible system launches, a terrible small library of games, no original idea's or innovation. No matter how you write it, it will all ways have a negative until Nintendo gets their shit together; however the way they are launching them system it looks like they are going to drop the ball once again.

@TheIfym20 @bananaclawz Nintendo isn't any more or less innovative than Miscrosoft or Sony... in the end it is all console gaming, which is a mere shadow of the glory of PC gaming.

Interesting. I am starting to realize Nintendo strategy here. It looks like they have given up on e3, Gamescom, etc... and have decided the best way to show of their systems (3DS & WiiU) is with these press events they control and hold.

For the love of god GS why do you always quote pachter? He knows no more than any of us do. And this is when Nintendo needs to reveal some big news that didnt happen at E3. There has to be some other big games revealed at least in development and a fair price to compete. Also why not reveal what Retro has been working on? give people a reason to be excited for the future of the console blah blah blah.

Thank you Gamespot for this update and not bashing the Wii U. But I'm a little surprise that Nintendo will not be discussing the Wii U an Tokyo Game Show and yes, I remember they did this for 3DS and boy I was mad when they told the whole world it will be $249.99 and that kill the exictment right there. So Nintendo please let this event be better then E3.

@EasyComeEasyGo I hear Capcom is biding there time on a new Monster hunter for over here and promises it will be before the end of the year, at anytime. Maybe a little extra hidden games like that and Black ops 2 Wii U style will be announced to spice the system up more. Cant be any worse than the Vitas Black ops!

250 or 300 and im all over this thing! Launch titles alone will tide me over for quite some time, AND if there is a small waiting time thats why i have my 360,PS3, and 3DS. Instead of fanboys all over the place isnt it great to be a gamer!
