Wii outselling PS3 in Japan 5-to-1

Up front let me say that I owned a ps2 and that was a great console. Then I got a xbox 360 ( only becasue the ps3 was not going to be out for awhile ) Now I have a ps3. I have to say that as of right now the 360 is a far better platform. The games are better ( graphics, framerate etc. bigger selection ) I know in the future the ps3 will come up to speed with the game titles, but I feel I should of waited to buy the ps3. I have a system that there is only a few games you can play on it. Also I miss the rumble pack in the controllers. Now lets talk about online ...... Sony said there online was free and was just as good as xbox live ..... they are wrong, very wrong. The one thing that I did complain about when I got the xbox 360 was having to pay for the online service, but let me tell you I have changed my mind on that one. I have no problem paying for the xbox live now. There is so much more xbox offers then ps3 online. In fact I laugh everytime I get onto Sony's online, it's a joke. WIth this said the only reason the xbox 360 does poorly in Japan is the people of Japan will support there own consoles before anything else and do not give the 360 a chance. Now with the Wii, I wish I would of got the Wii and not the ps3, I did try the Wii and it's a lot of fun. I also wish the diehards of both consoles would stop bashing the other and be truthful about the games and consoles. I'm one of the lucky people that have both the ps3 and xbox 360 and I will look at a game on both consoles before I buy it, to get the best one. As for right now it's been the 360.

Hey, enough with the "MY system is better than YOUR system!" What, are you all in the third grade or something? if you have a PS3 and you like it, then screw sales, just concentrate on enjoying your thing. Same goes for Wii and X Box. Why is it a big argument?

Let's just wait and see how the next few years turn out.

In five years time maybe, but by then the PS3/360/Wii will be out of date and whichever is the standard format will be included in all the consoles, forcing Blu-Ray onto people now just makes the PS3 expensive. All the Sony "10 year plan" nonsense will vanish as whist the BR player may be still around the graphics set up will be so out of date that the next gen of consoles will be kicking in. And lets face it, Sony haven't exactly got a good record at introducing new formats have they... BETAMAX, MINI-DISK and UMD all bombed. As for the software titles = games thumbs down... it's probably a case of No S**t Sherlock.

People don't want blu-ray right now because it's not the right time yet. In 5 years blu-ray will replace DVD and then you guys will understand why Sony put blu-ray into the PS3. By the way, how can anyone disagree that software titles = games?

The PS2 won last gen because it had lots of exclusive titles, GTA, Metal Gear Solid, Pro Evolution Soccer, Ratchet and Clank and Final Fantasy to name some. GTA is not a PS3 exclusive and neither is Pro Evolution Soccer and that is not gonna be good news in the long run.

First out the blocks, disk player that people actually wanted, some great software titles.... pretty much the opposite of what the PS3 has now.... last out, disk player that most people couldn't give two farts about and a massive lack of quality software (yes its only been out 7 months, but seeing as how it was released a year later than the 360 you'd have thought Sony might have used the extra time to ensure some quality titles rather than just galavant around infringing on other companies patents).

Yes the Wii needs third party support.

If Nintendos big games turn out to be great then the future is bright for the Wii. It needs other developers though to start making their games good and not only Nintendos games. It will need more than Mario, Smash Bros Brawl and Metroid Prime 3 and Zelda to help their console sell in the future. Resident Evil 4 was a good game on the Gamecube. The Wii needs more exclusive titles and they have to be good or else they might lose out in the long run.

Although bashing Sony is the style, the reason why the headline isn't "Wii outselling 360 20-1" is because it is old news that the Japanese don't like X-Box. Everyone knows that. On another note I think the Wii has more graphical potential than is being shown, but so does the PS3. In other words the graphics gap between the two will not be bridged. Ever.

in regards to the AI i was talking about earlier, if you say they could squeeze decent AI out of the wii they certainly havent even TRIED making a game to utilize it yet....why are they waiting if this isnt an issue?

Biiig suprise --_--... Comon the only game that japanese gamers play on their PS3 right now is, Gundam... PS3 will probably sell like hell in 08, when FFXIII is realesed and IF MGS4 get realesed in 07 then PS3 will sell good too.. The Wii is good but im tired of them milking out Mario and creating new ''Mario family members'' they should create something new, to impress me :D, but good for Wii selling great!

I think the best thing Sony can do right now (other than release some good games!) would be to lower the PS3 price to the price of the 360 Elite. That way they would rumble MS who aren't likely to change the price of the Elite any time soon as it literally just came out. I think Microsoft's game plan with the Elite is to make it their primary console because why else would they put out the stand alone 120GB HDD at such a ridiculous price? They want to satisfy previous 360 owners by offering them the same hardware as the Elite, but also tempt new customers with a better deal. Therefore if Sony can match the Elite price wise we would see a straight head to head battle with both companies primary console being the same price. It is only a $120 price drop but the effect of making it the same price of the latest 360 SKU would be massive to the average consumer (I think).

@Dr_Yassam; Its pointless arguing with a Sony fanboy mate, they only believe what Sony tells them, facts are totally ignored unless it suits there own warped view of things. Hence the same people are screaming to whoever will listen that the PS3 is so much superior to the 360 in the graphics department when, so far, there is little or nothing to back up the claim and everything points to the two machines being pretty much identical. The only differences I've seen mentioned so far are that the PS3 handles textures a little better but then suffers when trying to move them around.

You could get more out of the XBox than the other two consoles because the CPU/GPU combination on the XBox was more powerful than that of the GC and more powerful than the EE/GS combination on the PS2. Plus the XBox had more memory than the other two consoles. Where did you get the idea that it was any different? (I'll tip-toe out of here now...you didn't see me...right? ;))

einsteinecker Actually they are losing $900 with no return, thats why they are so hesitant to lower they price. Since they are already losing at least $300 on every PS3 they don't wanna lose anymore.

@endekks You are forgetting that this is Japan. Xbox360 was not made in Japan. This is a Japanese market and Bloomberg is getting sales figures from that market. In Japan, it is Wii vs PS3. In North America, it is xbox360 vs Wii and PS3. For the Japanese market no idiot professional would say "Wii outselling xbox360", the 360 is not a Japanese product and I bet 10 to 1 japanese don't know what the xbox360 is. That aside, a PS3 price drop surely would help sales. I mean hey, instead of losing $600 with no return, wouldn't you like to get $450 back?

This is a sea change for Sony. Xbox has never done well in Japan, so that's kind of expected. However to see Sony hammered so hard is definitely news. Can't see how they're going to turn this around at the moment, because they've made their system so expensive by simultaneously trying to make the Blu-Ray dominant for nextgen DVDs. Sometimes you can get greedy and go too far, then fall flat on your face. I'll stay with my PS2 for now...

smoothn00dle You are picking on a very minor insignificant point but I shall respond nevertheless. Last gen Gamecube graphics were pretty period, rather you think that the hardware inferior ps2 was more powerful then the hardware superior Xbox is of no concern. Last gen was still pretty no matter what, and while the Wii is no PS3 graphically, it is still Hardware superior to last gen and is still pretty.

@Squirrel Xbox is not strong.. PS2 and Gamecube, depend how u program it could get more out of it then Xbox. Xbox strong point is harddisc, network and large amount of ram which make programming a lot easier..

I see a lot of anti Nintendo bias in here so allow me to respond. First the Wii wont be collecting dust in a year, why? Nintendo makes some of the best games on the market and they are exclusive to Wii, so if nothing else you will be playing great Nintendo titles. Also EA, the largest worldwide developer, has pledged to highly support the Wii and is doing so, as well so many developers are working on Wii titles that Wii may have more titles then the 360 by this time next year. Now to the hardware. AI is bad you say? Due to hardware you say? well in saying that you're saying that the Ps2, Gamecube, Xbox, and slightly older PC titles never had good AI because the hardware was not good enough. The Wii is several times stronger then the Gamecube, and slightly stronger then the first Xbox, so a lack of AI is due to the developer and not the hardware. As far as graphics go the Wii can render some great graphics, even if they fail in comparison to the 360 or PS3. The Wii's graphics will never be top notch but Nintendo planned not to aim for that audience, and its working very very well as you can see. I love good graphics but I love good games more, and I am still happy with the pretty GC and Xbox graphics so the Wii graphics look okay to me. I want to buy a 360 soon, but my Wii is my primary system for good reason. At least with my Wii I don't have to pay $600 and $60 for each game, and I get all the features that I will ever care about.

gmayronne, I agree with you completely about the AI in red steel. As even ubisoft said, even they are sorry for how bad that game came out. Even so, I see AI on the level of the original halflife good enough to enjoy a game of that type. While I fully expect that sort of thing to become better, as I see the original halflife as having good enough AI to be playing with, I see no problem with the power of the Wii being able to do that level. Skill in the programming of the game tends to mean more than the base power of the hardware, and a Wii is easily much more powerful than a Pentium3 GeForce2 combo, which is adequate for Halflife. I realize this is only my opinion.

There will always be a sega in a group of 3. look at a group of 3 girls. girls are always in 3's. You have the hot one, then the ok one and you have the fat one. Just like games systems. I hate the fan boy thing 2. there is always a fan boy fight. One of the bigest things that hurt PS3 is the tag. Blue-Ray looks just as good as HD-DVD. I know that the Wii cant put out the video like the 360, or PS3. The 360 keeps looking killer as time gos on. Here you have what fan boys call true next gen PS3 that has just a hand full of games, and the looks of the games are far from killer. All the systems have a down side. So stop the fan boy crap. Just play games or try to get a date.

I find this interisting since last years tokyo game show majority of Japan video game audience wanted a PS3 over the Wii. I guess this shows how little actual non-gamers were a part of the TGS poll

jestarius, sorry it took so long to comment on YOUR comment about MY comment....or whatever. anyway, i said graphics, sound AND AI (primarily AI), you know artificial intelligence, that thing that makes games go round and challenges gamers therefore creating a more satisfying and gratifying gameplay experience, which is something the wii does in a VERY limited doses (play red-steel lately? those enemies were dumber than a sack of left-handed hammers) and i really dont see it getting MUCH better for a console based on such simple hardware. yes, i agree that some of the wii games are fun (mainly wii sports and zelda and.......well thats about it) most of the other games are just gimmicky from a gameplay perspective and dont use the controller very effectively or that well to be honest. i dont hate the wii, but i certainly dont prefer it either. one day i may own, but i cant help but feel it will be for only a FEW certain games, kinda like my gamecube and nintendo 64.

360 never seemed to capture the japanese gaming market...i say who cares anyways.

Why is this gaming news, if i was an investor in these companies these kinds of sales figures would matter, if i was a game publisher this would matter, if i was a game developer this would matter. As somebody who plays games for fun this isn't new, it's just something to hype up fanboys and fangirls. Enjoy the games no matter what system they come out on and keep gaming :D
