I just discovered something quite amazing and suprising. Not too long ago I was doing my thrift shopping and I came across a NES cartridge that was nowhere near the electronics section and if it wasn't for my son saying 'Link daddy, Link' I wouldn't have spotted it. It was a single copy of The Legend of Zelda, except that instead of being the regular gold colour, it was a bright banana yellow. I thought nothing of it at the time though I did recongnize that it was different in colour than my home copy. It was $2 dollars which is a good price anyways.

So the point is,(ROFL) I googled 'yellow zelda cartridge' and discovered that is is a type of promo copy and is quite rare. My jaw dropped to the floor and I couldn't believe my luck. The yellow NES cartridges where used by the NES testing station. Different cartridges were included as testing devices, including titles like Duck Hunt, Metroid, and The Legend of Zelda (among others). Other testing cartridges were released that would test the functionality of the Nintendo Console, like controllers, power source, etc...

The value of this cartridge varies anywhere from $175 - $600+ dollars. I am obviously pleased with this find and wanted to share it with you all for two reasons. One, that you could have the knowledge that these testing cartridges are out there and will know they have value, and secondly because I'm so stoked and just had to tell someone who would care at all!

I might do a little blurb on this NES testing system in the future if there is any interest in such a topic. Cheers.

Sunny today so I hit the carboots this morning.  Not much good stuff overall, I think it's still a little too early for them to be in full swing.  I did manage to find a couple of bargains though!

Serious Sam: The Second Encounter (PC) - used, complete in very good condition, 50p.  Been looking for this for ages, got First Encounter and SSII so I needed this badly.

And...

A Game Gear!

It's loose, but it's in nice condition with only a few minor marks and most importantly it's fully working.  I've passed on so many of these due to non-working sound (or non-working screen, sometimes) so this was a great find for me.  The seller had thankfully thought to bring batteries for testing, otherwise I would have probably been reluctant to risk it.  Just £10 including Columns (cart and manual).

Very Nice. I just recently got my own Game Gear and I'm really enjoying it. Not a bad price.

A few people that were there when I bought all those games were more like "that boy needs to find a different hobby". I don't think they understand that this is my hobby, I collect games and I play them.

Some good stuff in there, partner! Very Nice!

...Especially your un-crushed copy of Gemfire for the SNES, lol! (If you don't know what I'm talking about...look up an old thread here in the CCU titled 'Mail Carrier Catastrophe'..or something to that effect. You'll see what I mean, lol :P)

You've been on quite a spree here lately...grats on all your additions, friend!  ;) :D

As for myself? I finally obtained a RPG for my Saturn. Not one of the more rare/pricey titles, but I'm very glad to finally add one to my collection!

Dark Savior  (SAT, Used, Complete, VG)  $13 (including shipping!)

That's a **** and invasive thing to say to somebody. I would probably have told them to mind their own GD business and bought two or three more games just for good measure, but then I'm a little confrontational.

Hahaha that story is very funny. He was lucky it was you he had to deal with as some folks might have given him a very hard time. I hope you managed to get a working copy of Gemfire!

As for my shopping spree I have to admit that I'm a bit suprised at my luck as of late. I don't normally buy this much stuff, but the prices I have been seeing on games has been ridiculous and it sort of forces my hand. (no grumbling can be heard of course lol)

Regarding your Saturn game, it reminds me that I have been looking for a Saturn console and games for a long time and have had absolutely no luck so grats on your latest RPG find. Maybe it is harder to find in Canada???

I've been totally behaving for the past few weeks. I'll be on vacation next week so the impulse to buy portable games has been overwhelming.

DSi XL (Console) - NEW - I have every other version of the DS so why  not this one too? I love the larger screens. My wife is inheriting my old DSi since it has a few games on it that she hasn't gotten to play much.

System Flaw (DSi Exclusive) - NEW - It uses the camera to create environments or something. DSi games come in white boxes, have a DS double screen log rather than simply saying Nintendo DS, and have white cartridges to distinguish them. There are so few and decently hard to find in shops that I decided to buy any that I run into.

Foto Showdown (DSi Exclusive) - NEW - Use the camera to generate over 150 different monsters based on the colors present in the pic.  This is the one that got me started looking for DSi Exclusive games.

Populous DS (DS) - NEW - Bargain bin goodness for Toys R Us.

Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter (DS) - I loved the first game so this one seemed like a no brainer. Being on sale for $18 made it the right time to strike.

Wario Ware Do It Yourself (DS) - NEW - This one seemed like it could really kill some time if you can get past the 2.5 hour tutorial. The 500 bonus points from Best Buy made it too good to pass up.

Lego Rock Band (DS) - NEW -  Love the set list. I've almost beaten it already.

Black Sigil: Blade of the Exiled (DS) - Used - A niche difficult rpg that nobody bought or cared much about. It was also $7. I like it!

Desktop Tower Defense (DS) - New - More bargain bin goodness from Toys R Us. It's a fun and cute game.

C.O.P. The Recruit (DS) - NEW - Cheap goodness from GameStop's Gamer Days sale. Only one location had this for cheap while everone else had it full price. More of that wonkyness to come.

Hammerin' Hero (PSP) - Used - I've been wanting this one for a while. Being $10 made it irresistible.

Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny (PSP) - NEW - Another Gamer Day sale that was only cheap at one location.

Secret Agent Clank (PSP) - NEW - $20 clearance from Best Buy on a game series that I enjoy.

Prince of Persia Rival Sword (PSP) - NEW - Packaged with my next game for $20 combined.

Prince of Persia Revelations (PSP) - NEW - Two well received games for $10 each? Yes please.

Little Big Planet (PSP) - NEW - Full price. Ouch.

God of War of War Collection (PS3) - NEW - Target was the last place in my area that had the original version of the game instead of the hideous Greatest Hits box so that's where I got it.

Little Big Planet (PS3) - Another purchase made to avoid the ugly new box.

inFamous (PS3) - SEE ABOVE

Disgaea 3: Absence of Justice (PS3) - Another Gamer Day sale that was only cheap at a single location.

Sacred 2: Fallen Angel (360) - Gamer Day purchase that the Mrs really wanted.

Tomb Raider: Underworld (360) - Used - Complete - $15 seemed like the right price for this one.

X-Men Origins: Wolverine (360) - NEW - More Gamer Day goodness.

Rabbids Go Home (Wii) - Another inconsistently priced Gamer Day sale purchase.

MagMax (NES) - Cart Only - It was a dollar...

Super R-Type (SNES) - Cart Only - $1.99 for a classic.

Super R-Type is a good one and I might have to pick up Sacred 2 also. Nice wad of games.

I bought Monster Hunter Tri bundled with the black Wii Classic Controller Pro. For some reason, in addition to a 500 Wii points card, they were also knocking $5 off of the price. I'm not sure if that is a pre-order thing, a Gamestop thing, or a time-sensitive thing. This is only the second Wii game I've cared enough about to pre-order.

Some very good buys in that lot Pikadeth! TwarBlackshire

I actually forgot to mention a couple...

Persona 4 (PS2) - NEW - One more from the Gamer Day sale.

DJ Hero (360) - NEW -  Toys R Us had the game and two turntables on sale for $90. That seemed as cheap as new copies of those items were ever going to get.

Excellent stuff! Lots of big hauls, well done :D

No massive piles of games for me, just a couple of additions.

From eBay:

Paperboy (NES) - used, complete in very good condition, £3.99

Spy vs. Spy (NES) - used, complete and... sealed! £10

I actually didn't know this was sealed, it was listed as good condition and looked good enough on the picture so I placed my bid and didn't think more of it.  I was nicely surprised when it arrived.  Shame it's not mint, it's a little bashed (not too bad though) and the seal is torn slightly in a few places. I actually wanted to play this game too... should I bother keeping it sealed as it's not exactly a pristine example?  This is why I don't collect sealed games :(

Resident Evil 4 (Wii) - used, complete and mint, £4 (Bargainaceous)

Classic NES: Super Mario Bros. (GBA) - used, complete and near mint, £8.95.

Only got two more Classic NES games to get!  Damn you, Ice Climber and whoever keeps sniping me at the last second :(

From Game Zone:

Intellivision Lives! (PS2) - used, complete in very good condition, £2.50

Midway Arcade Treasures (PS2) - used, complete in very good condition, £2.50

From the crazy price drop selection at work:

     Sony PS2 Dual Shock 2 Controller - new, £2

Microsoft Xbox 360 Play and Charge Kit - new, £2.

It truly is amazing what bargains are kicking about our stockroom.  I just missed out on a Wii Motion Plus for a fiver too.  I've already got one but I could have easily flipped this at CeX and made some profit. This is probably the last decent stuff to be had, as a company we're almost completely out of the games/ents business now :( Books, news, stationery and hideously overpriced confy aren't quite as exciting, somehow.

Haven't posted in a while as I have been stuck doing Uni work :(. Only four weeks left until my work is handed in, then a dissertation to do over summer.

Haven't had much time for gaming really but picked up and completed:
Splinter Cell Conviction - With pre-order pack (Xbox 360) GBP40

Now back to work...

An interesting day for me:

D2 (DC, Used, Complete, NM) $15

NES Game Genie, no box, but came with the original manuals $5

Sega Genesis Plug-n-Play (lol, it looks like a little miniature Genesis!) Perfect working order and in great shape. 6 games (Sonic 2, Ecco: ToT, Columns, Gain Ground, The Ooze, and Alex Kidd) $5

Lost Odyssey Strategy Guide -Used but in decent condition. (Gonna help me 1K that darn game!) $5

They also had a copy of Crystal Mines for $5...which they are holding for me...I'm on my way back up there to pick it up here pretty quickly. I didn't get it at first b/c I wasn't sure if it was one of the more rare Color Dreams games. Anyway, I've found out $5 is one heck of a deal! :D

Kameo: Elements of Power (360, Used, Case & Disc only, VG) $9

Ok so I have like no money left but should be getting paid Monday so here is the last of my buys before then, sorry for not being that active.

From Chips I picked up not really a game, but a disc that installs somthing that lets you play the original Xbox games on the Xbox360, it cost me 4.99GBP

Then I went over to Blockbuster and looked in the bargin bin. I don't know how much each game cost but the total was 1.95GBP which is like one dollar

  • V-Rally 99 Edition - N64 - Cart Only
  • Turok 2 Seefs Of Evil - N64 - Fully boxed with all inlays and bits of promotional things - Box is in really good condition.

So yea how good of a deal was that Turok :D

I had never played Final Fight, I didn't really like it when compared to other great beat em ups but if you like the game there is nothing wrong with it, it has achievements, co-op, and it looks better. I used to own Magic Sword on the Snes, it's great to have it again, fun game.

The Passing, it's nice to have the new maps but it is kind of a disappointing level. It's nice to have new maps for versus and survival though as well as new achievements and a new multiplayer mode, it was worth it.

Um, you do know you can get that update from MS for free here, right? And it's included in the Xbox Live updates anyway so you shouldn't need to do anything except download it the first time when prompted to by your console.

Good deal on the N64 stuff though!
