Gran Turismo 5 Car Rollover Gameplay Footage
As many people have noticed through the years, the physics of previous games in the GT series prevented cars from completely rolling over in an accident. We've known for quite some time that would no longer be the case with GT5, but we haven't been able to actually see it -- until now. Thanks to GTPlanet user Shirakawa Akira, who dug up a rather obscure clip from a Japanese television show, we now have our first look at not one but two rollover crashes in a ****c little Fiat 500 F. Look for it at 1:27 and 2:31 in the clip above.

A GameReactor associate in Tokyo, Gregor Wildermann, has reportedly made contact with Polyphony Digital and Kazunori Yamauchi for further clarification on Gran Turismo 5's production status:
"[Kazunori Yamauchi's] reply was that the game was only three days late from their side, and that Sony has to decide what that means for the release."
This aligns with the other information I've received about review copies and release windows, and further suggests that GT5's ultimate new release date will be determined by Blu-Ray production schedules – not software development.

Â
More information is slowly filtering out about GT5's delay, and it fits in neatly with everything else we've learned about the game's production in the past 24 hours. Here's what was recently posted by Maximus – a respected moderator at the Blu-Ray.com forums with reported connections to Sony:
Like I said it is manufacturing issues. I had it confirmed today.
The problem arose when SCE mandated SDK 350 on all games releasing after after October, GT5 was about to go gold running on SDK 341, but it has been delayed by around a week so that they can update to SDK 350. This has caused a big headache for the manufacturing side, given how big this game is missing the gold date by even a week can cause a months worth of delay as slots are already taken up at this time of year for Blu-ray movies and such. So Sony had to find a 3 week slot big enough to make 7m+ copies of this and get them shipped out.
If you want to blame anyone, I would direct it at the pirates and hackers, SCE never had any real SDK restrictions before firmware 3.41 was compromised.
 Maximus
After getting attention from news outlets such as Eurogamer and TheSixthAxis, evidence of the post has since been removed, but it offers a very reasonable explanation about why Polyphony Digital missed their production window by only 3 days. Sure enough, the new PS3 3.50 firmware is considerably more secure than 3.41 and preventing distribution of a 3.41-compatible GT5 will ensure that it can't be pirated (for now).

A German automotive news site, Auto-Presse.de, may have discovered a new real-world track set to debut in Gran Turismo 5: the Hockenheimring. The rumor comes from an SLS AMG press event hosted at the circuit by Mercedes-Benz, where media members were offered the chance to set a few hot laps of their own before riding along with five-time DTM champion Bernd Schneider. A GT5 demo was also on-hand for handling comparisons.
While it is not yet clear if the Hockenheimring circuit itself was playable, Auto-Press casually confirms that it will be featured in the game along with the Nurburgring. For clarification, I turned to German GTPlanet user mikepoint, who offers the following translation:
"On different international and German racetracks, including Hockenheim and the legendary Nurburgring Northloop, the SLS driver awaits enthralling high speed races against competition cars of the super sports car segment."

On October 6th, Sony launched a giveaway competition for a free Gran Turismo 5: Signature Edition package. Since that time, the competition was set to end on the old Australian release date, November 4th. That end date has remained unchanged (confirmed by Google's cache) – until now. The legal terms and conditions have just been quitely updated to list a new ending date of December 9th.
I will be first to remind you this is not an official announcement or confirmation of a new release date for Gran Turismo 5. However, it is the first specific new date related to the game which has been found on any Sony website, and December 9th is a Thursday. Australia's old date, November 4th, is also a Thursday – the day of the week typically reserved for big video game releases Down Under.
Assuming Sony plans to keep the same sequential worldwide release schedule for GT5, we could estimate a December 8th release in Europe/Japan and a December 7th release in North America. Obviously, these dates are also a Wednesday and Tuesday – the same as the original November dates. Furthermore, these dates fall at the tail end of Sony's internal release date window, provided to me by a trusted source shortly after the delay was announced.
As you may recall, Sony was quick to reassure us the game would arrive "this holiday season" and announced they "expect" to confirm a new date before the end of October. Time is running out, as there are only two weekdays left in October as of writing – let's hope the updated terms of this contest are an early indication the veil is about to be lifted.
Thanks to GTPlanet's sharp-eyed reader GTR12 for picking this up!

A stream of interesting tidbits have been trickling into our Gran Turismo 5 forum today via several new magazine articles. First up is the December 2010 issue of PSM3 magazine, which provides a few details as highlighted by our own Dessy182:
Denur has also gathered a few interesting details from issue 44 of Dutch TV magazine Veronica:

Polyphony Digtial has today fully revealed the "X1 Prototype", a project in conjunction with Red Bull Racing.
All races that exist in today's world are restricted by regulations. However the X1 is a machine born from a fantastic "what if" dream of Polyphony; "What would the fastest racing car on Earth, free of any and all regulations look like?"
Initially the X1 prototype was a single seater, canopied prototype wing car with covered front wheels. The performance brought about by the 1500ps direct injection V6 Twin Turbo would have been spectacular as is, with a top speed of 400km/h and a maximum lateral acceleration of 6G. But this concept showed an even greater advancement through the help of Red Bull Racing, who became a partner in this project.
Red Bull Racing's chief technical officer, the genius aerodynamicist Adrian Newey proposed that "Fan Car" technology, a dream that he had held to himself over the years be added to the X1 Prototype.
A "fan car" is a vehicle having a fan mechanism which forces the air out from underneath the car, to reduce air pressure under the car's floor. The resulting suction draws the car to the ground surface and creates a massive amount of downforce. And because it can create downforce regardless of the vehicle's current speed, it dramatically raises it's cornering speed even in low speed corners.
The incredible ability of fan cars has already been proven in history. The Chaparral 2J fan car entered in the 1970 Can-Nam series was so fast that it was banned after just 1 season. Even in the F1, the BT46B fan car entered in 1978 by Brabham dominated the opening round of the series with extreme speed, and was banned just after that single race.
With this proposal from Mr. Newey, the machine was transformed with a large fan added to the rear end of the body. With additional advice regarding the shapes of the front and rear wings and rear diffuser, its aerodynamics became even further refined. As a result, the X1 prototype attained an astonishing level of performance, reaching a top speed of over 450km/h, with a maximum lateral acceleration reaching up to 8.75G. This is a performance level that is at the very limits of what a normal human body can withstand.
The driver who performed the shakedown test of the machine in Gran Turismo 5, was the world famous Sebastian Vettel. In his very first run on the Suzuka Circuit, he shortened the record time of the course by over 20 seconds. And in the test drive on the Nurburgring GP Course, he marked a record time of 1 minute 4 seconds, drawing out the incredible potential of the X1 Prototype.
This is the dream of the fastest racing car on land, brought to life through the collaboration between Polyphony and Red Bull. Witness for yourself the power of the X1 through the in-game "X1 Challenge", the first driving lesson ever in Gran Turismo to be performed by a top professional driver.
The results were thrilling. X1 is about evolution. Delivering the optimum combination of tested technologies in a single integrated design. This would be the future of racing were we not bound by regulations, but one that is achievable today. And as Sebastian has shown, it is about devastating speed coupled with real handling control. Today thanks to PlayStation®3 and Gran Turismo we can test drive the future.Â
Adrian Newey Chief Technical Officer at Red Bull Racing
X1 sees the marriage of virtual and real worlds as we explore the boundaries of our technology and aesthetic senses. The X1 Prototype Project has been motivated by curiosity and passion, powerful forces that brought together the best the world has to offer in design, physics simulation, racing car product technology and driving.Kazunori Yamauchi President Polyphony Digital Inc and ceator of the GranTurismo seriesÂ

Lets try calculating the cornering G's of the X1 at 300km/h from the total tire load and coefficient of friction for the tires.
The total load on the X1's tires at 300km/h is 1142.7kgf at the front tires, and 1432kgf at the rear tires. The coefficient of friction for the tires isμ=1.97. From these conditions, the maximum cornering force that the tires can exhibit can be determined to be 5073kgf. Dividing this by the wet weight of the X1 of 615kg comes to be 8.25, which is the maximum cornering G of the X1.
8.25G greatly exceeds the G's felt during the launch of the Space Shuttle, and is roughly the same as that of a jet fighter plane at full afterburner. It is a figure at the very limits of what a human body can withstand.
Test Calculation: Cornering G at 300km/h
Total Tire Load: 2575.6kgf (Front Wheel 1142.7kgf+Rear Wheel 1432.9kgf)
Coefficient of Friction of Tires: μ=1.97 (baseμ=2.16, model calculates an efficiency reduction to 91.5% under high load)
Cornering force that can be exhibited by tires: 5073.9kgf
Cornering G: 8.25G (= 5073.9kgf / 615kg)

KA will have a field day with all those stats :Pkipi19
LOL :P
I had to screenshot them though, couldn't copy and paste images from the official site.
I will be supprised if this game comes out this year as there have been some wierd replys apparently when the developers are asked when it will come out with apparently answering whehter the game will be out this year with "its possible the game will make holiday launch".
They are leaving it very late to announce it with only 2 months left of this year and if they plan on a pre-Christmas launch then time is ticking for sure. Who knows what will happen at the end of the day really, I would like to see it released for the fans wanting to get it under their tree as a present or buying a gift for themselves but the vaugness and developer history makes me think we wont see this game this year.

While speaking with Jalopnik today at SEMA, Kazunori Yamauchi stopped short of providing a new release date, but was able to confirm the game discs are being stamped (produced) right now:
"The discs are being stamped as we speak."Kazunori Yamauchi
This means the gold master copy of the game has been delivered from Polyphony Digital, and should help calm any fears about it slipping into 2011. Thanks to Tomo for sending this in so quickly!

Gran Turismo 5 and the Red Bull X1 Prototype have both been featured in the latest issue of Top Gear magazine, and the dramatic screenshot above introduces several important new cars to the game. Most notably, you'll find the new McLaren MP4-12C, a Lamborghini Murcielago LP 670-4 SuperVeloce, the 1965 Alfa Romeo TZ2 (2009 winner of the Polyphony Digital Trophy at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance), the Lexus LF-A, and Philip Koenen's 1970 Ford "Trans-Cammer" Mustang.

Possibly it will be bundled with Forza 4?
Or better yet it gets announced as a multiplatform title and thats why it has been delayed for a release on Xbox 360, PS3, PC and Wii.
User Sew on NeoGAF has shared what could be our first look at an Australian retail Gran Turismo 5 Blu-Ray disc. It may or may not be legitimate, but it certainly looks the part and – combined with Yamauchi's recent comments – the thought someone may have a copy of the game in their hands is not so far-fetched…
I'll keep you updated as the story develops over the weekend. Â Of course, if you're the source of the image above, it would be in your best interest to send me an email.

Unfortunatly GT is a PS3 exclusive haha, But then again you got your Forza lot :P, So its all gravy, I can't wait for GT5 :)kipi19
Don't forget the PSP ;)
But yeah I can see exclusives working that way as otherwise there is little point in multiple consoles exisiting if all games were on all platforms. I do own a PS3 as well as an Xbox 360 but I just don't game on it that much in reality.

I don't have any specific updates about the GT5 disc revealed yesterday, but that hasn't stopped quite a few interesting tidbits from bubbling up around the world. First up, word from "distribution sources" indicate more than half a million copies of Gran Turismo 5 are headed to France. More specifically, there will be 450,000 standard copies, 100,000 Collector's Editions, and 5,000 Signature Editions available in the country. (Amazon.fr is still taking SE reservations, so hop on that if you're interested.)
Also, GT5's big Madrid launch party has a new date of November 24th/25th. As you may recall, the launch party was first scheduled for October 26th/27th. Considering the party was to be held exactly one week before the game's intended worldwide launch, a release during the week of November 29th – December 3rd is beginning to look extremely likely. This release window aligns perfectly with what I've been told before and Sony's own retail outlet, Sony**** who lists a launch date "on or around" November 30th for the game. Regardless, it's becoming clear we don't have much longer to wait.
Thanks to all who sent these stories in!

As carefully spotted by our highly observant forum users, what appears to be more real, legitimate copies of Gran Turismo 5 are sneaking their way out into the world. The first leaked disc originated from Australia – and they're now showing up in Europe. Early copies of the German GT5 Collector's Edition (just the game box, without the extra goodies) were posted to a Czech Republic auction site and quickly snatched up.  We're waiting for more confirmation (screenshots, videos) now.
