Details:

Gameplay

The shooting controls of The Conduit were inspired by Metroid Prime 3: Corruption and Medal of Honor: Heroes 2, first-person shooters which had well-received Wii control schemes. The Conduit offers user customizable control features, such as the ability to alter the size of the bounding box, the speed at which the player can move the camera, and cursor sensitivity.Furthermore, the player can adjust these options in real time, without having to leave the adjustment screen to try the changes. The developer has also included the option for the player to completely change the control layout, so that the function of any button or motion on the Wii Remote can be mapped to another button or motion. Other customizable aspects include the player's maximum running speed and the layout of the game's HUD; the elements of the HUD can be moved to different locations around the screen or removed entirely.

The Conduit provides an experience typical of a first-person shooter, focusing on combat in a 3D environment and taking place from the first-person perspective of a playable character. A unique feature of the game is a device known as the "All-Seeing Eye," or ASE, which is recovered by the player early on and used to solve various puzzles. The ASE can detect hidden traps and enemies scattered throughout a level, and reveal secret features in the environment that can help the player to progress, such as uncovering invisible doors and platforms and other interactive objects.

Campaign

The single-player campaign mode of The Conduit will consist of nine missions. The story will be told through primarily cutscenes between missions, but television and radio broadcasts will also be scattered across a mission area for the player to seek out. These broadcasts are unnecessary to fully understand the story, but provide background information that supplements the overall plot.

The main enemies of The Conduit are an insectoid alien race dubbed the Drudge. Their forces are divided into four main groups: Mites, Drones, Skimmers, and Scarabs. Mites are the smallest forms, some of which can fly and others explode when in close proximity to the player. Drones are adult-form Drudge that serve as common soldiers, and Skimmers are an alternate adult-form that can fly. Scarabs are the most dangerous group, equipped with heavily-armored exoskeletons and powerful weaponry. Other enemies in the campaign include Drudge-controlled U.S. military personnel, and a faction of the Trust organization that has willingly sided with the Drudge for it's own unknown purposes.

The Drudge also incorporate various devices to defeat or hinder the player. Among these is the Drudge portal, or Conduit, which can be placed throughout a level to allow Drudge enemies to spawn from them until they are destroyed by the player. Other Drudge devices, such as a "Regenerator Unit" and "Pulse Box," will also appear in the game, but their purposes have yet to be revealed. The game's Quantum3 engine provides the Drudge with advanced artificial intelligence that allows them to adopt unusual strategies in combat. Such strategies include recognizing when the player is open to attack and then charging the player, or running away and seeking cover when outmatched.

Multiplayer

Multiplayer in The Conduit will feature at least three competitive multiplayer modes for online play, including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, and Capture the Flag modes. Splitscreen multiplayer will not be included, but the development team is working on local area network (LAN) support. Online voice chat will be included through implementation of the WiiSpeak peripheral. The Conduit will be the first third-party Wii game to use the accessory. Multiplayer gameplay will feature up to 16 players simultaneously.

Plot

In the near future, Washington, D.C. is shaken by several strange and tragic incidents. A mysterious flu-like virus known as "the Bug" sweeps through the region, resulting in high-security locations being left understaffed as government workers stay home to try to avoid catching the disease. Months after the initial outbreak, a terrorist attack destroys part of the Washington Monument, and only weeks afterwards on September 11, a presidential candidate is assassinated by another alleged terrorist cell disguised as her Secret Service detail, greatly heightening local and national tensions.

Following these alarming events, a secretive organization known as the Trust realizes that the capital has become the epicenter for an extraterrestrial attack by an alien race identified as the Drudge. "John Adams," the enigmatic commander of the Trust, directs a newly inducted agent codenamed "Mr. Ford" to infiltrate the area and learn the reasons for the sudden attack. Along the way, Mr. Ford must overcome the onslaught of the Drudge and the virus-infected humans under the Drudge's control, as well as a group of traitorous Trust agents led by a man calling himself "Prometheus."

Is it just me, or are the environments looking blander and blander.

I'm still in watch and wait mode on this one.

Wow, haven't been on the forums much lately, but what a nice welcome back surprise. A thread about the conduit with only a few haters! Anyways, I'm really excited about this game, it looks like it will control well, and if multiplayer turns out it'll be sweet.

Eh, to be honest, I don't know what people see in these trailers. The graphics, which were supposed to be one of the game's strongest points, are just looking bad right now. The videos are all pixelated, the environments are boring, the guns are okay (although the shotgun isn't very good), the human character models don't look very good (and the AI seems to currently suck pretty badly as well right now)... I just can't understand where people get their "8.0 minimum" optimism here. The game has potential, but right now I can honestly say that it needs some serious work to get up to that AA-AAA level.

A possible reason why graphics look pixelated and it appeared to look better before is that the previous videos were in "HD" according to IGN. Well, 480p at least. This video isn't. ;)

And can I say it once more... A/AA/AAA does not refer to the quality of the game. It refers to the amount of money spent on it. Same is true of all media. A B movie is not necessarily a bad movie. It's simply a lower budget one that doesn't have an expensive ad campaign.

Still, easy mode should not equate to "stand there motionless while shooting", in my view. That just looks plain bad, in my opinion. It's easy enough to simply equate easy mode to less damage incurred, more damage inflicted, that sort of thing.

Graphically, Super Mario Galaxy pretty much showed what the Wii can do, and The Conduit is currently just flat-out not looking very good at all as far as graphics go.

In terms of gameplay, Metroid Prime 3 basically is the standard by which all Wii FPSes will be judged (casting aside the "is MP3 an FPS?" question for now). I fully recognize that from everything we've seen, the controls for The Conduit ought to be great, which is a big component of success, but for other things such as (as I said) AI, immersion, storytelling, and such like, I'm just not feeling it yet as far as The Conduit goes. I'd say it could certainly be a solid 7 or so based on what I'm seeing right now, but for a game to reach the upper levels of 8s and 9s, they have to really have stand-out features that make the game a joy to play, and I just haven't seen anything like that from The Conduit yet.

By the sounds of it, The Conduit will boast great controls and some good graphic effects, but come on, let's be honest here; The Conduit suffers from a complete lack of art direction.

I've seen these levels a million times before.

i didnt read posts b4 i commented earlier...but it seems like evryone that hated me for saying the game looked bad, when they first showed it...and when they showed each and every new trailer, is changing their opinion, and syaing that the game now looks bad.......thanks for condemning me earlier, and then changing ur minds....i can remember the day when i was alone on this...oh me and wintry flutist....and now more and more ppl are opening their eyes.....the conduit is nothing special...and HVS just said all that graphics crap to get wii owners excited so that they would buy their game....i would give this game a 7 for graphics....gameplay looks just generic...ive played too many excellent games to even care abt this metroid/call of duty/halo/every other game rip off

What criteria are people using when they say this?

Not to pick on anyone; I just don't get it - the video is all pixelated, the guys just stand there while shooting you... what about it looks amazing?

Is it just me or did this game look better in the batch of videos released before E3?

High Voltage promised near 360-quality visuals, but even Metroid Prime 3 blows these videos away. I know that games can look significantly better in person, so I'm doing my best to give the game the benefit of the doubt but I don't think anything will be able to change the muddy textures and jagged edges plaguing this trailer.

I had the same thought, actually. I was beginning to get optimistic for the game's direction in the E3 videos, but this new video seems like a regression.

The video is not "HD". It's not in 480p. The rest are. Mystery solved.

At this point, I definitely would have to say that those predicting scores in the upper 8s and 9s don't have much of a logical basis to do so besides speculation on what the game could become between now and its release.

[QUOTE="randomguy15"]So point blank, this game is over hyped?randomguy15

At this point, I definitely would have to say that those predicting scores in the upper 8s and 9s don't have much of a logical basis to do so besides speculation on what the game could become between now and its release.

It could it end up doing very well, or very bad. But I'm not seeing much more than environments and shooting. What's the rest of the game?

I want to hear some of the story

Well that's definitely a valid question, but it's up to them to give us that stuff... all we have to go on is the videos that they give us, and as of right now, all we can do is speculate as far as that goes.

That game is beautiful!!!!!!!SteveXLR

Given that the guys at High Voltage openly said that it was going to be the best-looking game on the Wii, I think they've kind of got a ways to go.

I agree that they have a ways to go, but you sure did pick out the wrong screens to demonstrate that point!

once again, I hate these work computers!!!! I can't even judge the new video yet....dang it

I think this game will end up looking good. I'm not expecting early 360 visuals or anything like they promised (I've only played 1 360 game, GoW, and that's not an early game. I don't know what could be considered an early 360 game.)

anyways....It will be on par with MP3 imo.

lol, ya. As much as Elysia was my fav, the textures were pretty awful up close, like when you looked at the ground or ran up against a wall.
