Everyone seems smarter than me in my chemistry class.

I've helped a couple of girls in other subjects, though.

Both Men and Women have essentially the same level of intellagence.

The vast majority of geniuses are male.

The vast majority of people w/ severe and moderate learning disabilities and retardation are male.

Men are generally superior in spatial comprehention and recogniton as well as memorization based on abstract thought and connections

Women have a generally far better short term memory and better facial recognition and are better able to pick up emotions from facial expressions.

Yes far more women then men are in college but only someone ignorant of the educational system and the current views of society towards men would suggext that this means that males are less intellagent.

The differences are so minute that it is meaningless to argue who is superior mentally.

Men=strength & strategy women=compassion & intellect. Though this is a generalization and any of the traits may be mixed quite freely and someone of either gender will exist that fulfills the description.

No, that's silly to think. Generally speaking, males are more proficient in science and mathematics whereas women are better at English and writing. But even so, that correlation is probably weak at best. Everyone's different.

There are simply too many factors to take into consideration in order to get an accurate result, the whole "there are more women then men in universities" is as flawed as saying "there are more whites in universities then black, so whites are smarter." This argument does not account for anything other then raw numbers and in calculating intelligence that is simply not enough, especially considering intelligence is abstract and more or less impossible to define and calculate beyond extremes such as humans are smarter then dogs.

As for the argument that there are more men inventors, well obviously it's only been in the last half a century or so that women have gained an almost equal standing in society as men and even today there are still people who discriminate based on gender (and race), thankfully they're in the minority.

Simply put it's more or less impossible to determine what gender is smarter or if they have equal intelligence, there are too many factors to take into account such as background, mental state, emotional state, culture, genes, the amount of determination a person has, the way they think, how long it takes for them to learn etc etc etc. The list goes on, not to mention the fact we have yet to determine an accurate definition of what just intelligence is and how to compare it between people.

I am not going to side with this question, primarily because I dislike the word smarter because it is far too broad. I am pretty sure men are good at things and women are good at things.

Wow, what an informative and intelligent claim backed up by several compelling points. :|

I don't entertain stupidity.

Geez, that time of month already?

I'm pregnant, therefore, I don't have PMS.

Once again, I don't entertain stupidity.

It's still possible to have PMS or even a light period if you're pregnant.

In very early pregnancy. I'm 8 months. Good luck proving that one.

Oh right, I should have read your mind to know you were 8 months in. My bad. Evidently, PMS still occurs even at 8 months.

Assumption can be a dangerous thing. It leads to ignorance. Be careful.

Are you always having this attitude with everyone? :|

Calm down a little bit...you'll notice the difference.. And this is not a sexist thread. He asked a question and we answer providing we know anything about the subject. If you don't like it don't post in it.

People get easily offended nowadays...

So anyway back on subject, from personal experience I think we are even..

[QUOTE="MotherSuperior"][QUOTE="_Marisa_"][QUOTE="MotherSuperior"][QUOTE="_Marisa_"][QUOTE="MotherSuperior"]Experiments were conducted and results were given. You keep saying I lost this debate yet return with another post and continue on with it. You want other proof but then you don't, I've lost the debate and yet you return. Make up your mind._Marisa_

Sorry but experiements do not constitute fact, no matter which way you spin it, there is no fact that men are smarter than women.

Experiments often lead to facts. This subject has never been "proven" because it is either impossible or scientists are afraid of public ridicule.

Ding, ding, ding, we have a winner.

Fixed. I noticed you only select what you want to read, which is far deadlier that assumptions since selective-reading is always 100% wrong.

It is not the scientists job to not offend the public, they go through years of school so they can turn theory to fact, if they have not turned it to fact, then they do not have enough conclusive evidence to do so. End of story.

Not enough evidence = no fact. No fact = Men not smarter than women. It's simple logic, really. It's all about putting the right shape into the right hole.

Can you 2 stop it??

I don;t think it depends on the sex!!

It depends on the person and their personality!! Someone prove me wrong if they can!!

OMG...this is why humanity can't progress...closemindedness!! Women and men can't live without the other, and I'm pretty sure noone can prove me wrong (yet).

As I've said before: We are **** equal!!

Damn!! :|

Men are More Intelligent than Women?

On Start the Week, on Radio 4, tonight, Jeremy Paxman asked Professor Susan Greenfield, well-known neuroscientist (and Director of the Royal Institution) "You claim, don't you, that the more emotion you have, the less mind you have?"

"That's right," she answered.

Indeed, it is one of the main propositions in her new book, The Private Life of the Brain.

She went on to say, "[For example] One might say that, in meditation, one is developing a very deep consciousness, where you are accessing your inner states, and ignoring the outside world. This could be an example of where you are NOT experiencing an emotion, as such. The opposite would be, [perhaps], a baby, or someone with road rage, or a bungy jumper, awash with emotions and who is not [therefore] 'accessing' [with the mind] the past, or the future, or anything 'inside'."

Thus, Prof Greenfield is saying that the more 'emotion' you experience, the less 'mind' you have.

Now, which of the two possible genders, statistically speaking, experiences more emotion - and would claim to?

Mmm! The female gender, one would suspect.

And it follows, therefore, that, statistically speaking, this gender has less 'mind'. It is less in 'contact' with it.

Putting this another way: Relatively speaking, compared to men, women are less often 'accessing the past, or the future, or anything 'inside' ' - statistically, that is.

Well, that's what follows from Professor Greenfield's observations.

And most men and women would agree with them, openly, if they weren't having to be so politically correct.

Women, thus, statistically speaking, function less 'mindfully' than men, or, putting it less euphemistically, less 'intelligently'.

It cannot have escaped even the most ardent feminist's notice that it is men who are the focused, the possessed, and the obsessed. It is men who push forward the boundaries of science, music, technology and art. It is men who build great cities and great religions.

It is men who tinker well into the night, studying and prising apart the boundaries of even the most obscure and intractable.

I know one man who spent six years studying locust legs.

Not locusts. Locust LEGS!

FOR SIX YEARS!

I knew another who was a mathematician and who struggled daily, FOR YEARS, with some obscure problem in which only one other person in the entire world seemed to have any interest - and it wasn't me.

Just look at any science programme on TV and notice the 'workers' labouring in the various scientific fields. The 'experts'. The ones who sneak into their laboratories even on Christmas Day to skulk around engines, chemicals, computers or insects. The ones who spend hour upon hour, year upon year, squashed into their little rooms to study the contents of test-tubes or tissues. The ones who wander into the most hostile and desolate parts of the planet to scrub around for clues, artifacts and ideas.

They're nearly all men!

It is men who lead, explore, push forward and calculate.

And, to the extent that intelligence is based on factors in the environment, as opposed to genetics, or based upon learning and studying, as opposed to 'emotionalising' (and, so, losing 'mind') then the intelligence of men must creep forward more quickly, and further, than that of women, throughout their lives - because, statistically speaking, they choose to take on more of the intelligent-provoking 'environment', and they interact with it in much more of an objective and emotionless way (i.e. with more 'mind').

When it comes to intelligence, men have got what it takes. They drive in straight lines, they focus their attention, they do not multitask, they obsess, and they do not spend so much time emotionalising.

And they actually increase their intelligence by doing such things.

And the whole species benefits from their pursuits.

Statistically speaking, men are taller than women. Not much, but significantly so. The picture below is of some men and women. Some of the women, quite a few of them, are actually taller than quite a few of the men.

Just stating what a teacher of mine said when I was a senior in high school, which made sense at the time.

The smartest man is smarter than the smartest woman. The same could be said about the dumbest man and the dumbest women. However, this means that there are more dumb men than dumb women and the same for smartest men and smartest women.

He gave a visual too:

Male intelligence span: Smart -------------------------------------------- Dumb
Female intelligence span: Smart -----------------------------Dumb

You can see (I hope) the male's span is larger than the female's.

Through my own life experiences, I'd say we're equal. But men and women tend to be "smarter" (aka better) at different subjects (math and english). Unless you're me, then you are better at the arts than sciences (I excel at writing).

Perhaps, but if it is so it has more to do with societal expectations and roles than a genetic superiority.

And we should also take into consideration the current and historical evidence of rampant discrimination and narrow life options of the female gender.
