The west has been declining? You probably should have told someone sooner, this is the first I've heard of it. cheese_game619
just this sentence is evidence of you weakening the real man percentage talking in silly little passive aggressive quips modelled after something you saw someone else type or heard them say its not original and direct like a real man

the west is not declining! I WILL SKULL**** YOU!
Thing is, as part of the male condition, a man's predecessors are always "real" mean and current men are not. I read somewhere that the Spartans felt their ancestors were real men, while they were less manly. Then after Sparta, other greeks looked back at Spartans as the last "real men", etc. Mythology or not, ancient greeks/romans/whatever mourned the passing of the era with "real men" such as Hector, Achilles, etc. Fast forward to the times of our parents/grandparents, they were "real men" because they went to WW2 or whatever, while now people slightly older than us are "real men" because they didn't do metro stuff or wore designer jeans or whatever. Sure, we DO have a bunch of bad/really unmanly samples, the Justin Biebers, the grown men wearing MLP shirts, etc, but in all, I think people nowadays are not "less manly", it's simply human male condition to think like that.

Among ameriguns perhaps. Plenty of real men left in Europe as long as you don't look at France.

Well there is still the correct ratio of men to women on this planet. I however get what you mean, men now seem to be more focused on their fake tans and wearing their v necks so you can see their cleavage and how there hair looks. much more feminine now.

list the characteristics of "real men" and then one can say if they're dying out or not BossPerson

That's easy. A real man has a great beard, hot wife and kicks his enemies into pits. In other words.

That doesn't matter because French women are more than capable of defeating European men on the fields of battle. At least the English anyway

define real man.  I consider myself a real man and am not a feminine guy by any means, but I don't care about most sports and such, does that make me not a real man?  If so, then screw being a real man :P.

I'd take it as more handling business. True man has a job, house, transportation, takes care of his family, doesn't cheat/screw up, etc.

That last poll option...

If being a real man means I can't do the things I want, then I'd rather be fake.

You seem a lot more "beta" than him. Anyone obsessed with the opinions of others isn't a real man, the term may be ambiguous but that much is true. Something like that is for little kids and not adults.

Last I check it's pretty 50/50 when it comes to men and women. Sure there are more male to female transexuals than female to male transexuals, but real man or not dying, no idea where you came up with that idea

That looks pretty good, man. Nice shading as well.
Initially wasn't going to bother replying, but thought the drawing was quite good. So anyway...

If watching pony doesn't make me a 'real man' in the eyes of some, then so be it. It's not like the opinions of others online mean shit to me anyway.
In my view, a 'real man' is any man who is always humble and selfless and puts responsibility, civility and decorum first in all his dealings... a person who exudes strength of character and sets, through his own examples actions and deeds, a good, upright example for our youth... a person who is willing to defend, with his very life even, those who cannot defend themselves, never shirking from his responsibilities to his family, his community and his nation... so, yeah -- I guess its safe to say there aren't many 'real men' around anymore...

I couldn't care less. I have my own life to lead, I'm not going to waste it trying to stick to society's definition of a real man or caring how somone thinks I should act.

so edgy

It's not being edgy, it's just shrugging off what people think while considering how I feel about myself. What is a real man or woman but a social ideal? The definition changes with the ages and as people change, many think back to the "good old days". I feel no need to conform to something so subjective, something that doesn't exist. If I tried to become a people pleaser, I'd compromise who I am by supressing and altering my identity and personality. I have no desire to live a life like that.

Again I'll just say these are qualities that should be viewed as positive regardless of sex and that people of that caliber were exceedingly rare in the past too.

To be a real man, you have to be a good person, first and foremost. Treat people with respect. Be a good father, husband, and loyal friend. You have to be disciplined and always work hard and honor obligations. If you say you are going to do something, do it. No excuses. No quitting. You get it done.

You don't have to be a meat head to be a real man. In fact, a lot of those guys are insecure boys. Real men don't go around starting fights. But a real man isn't a coward, either. He also is man enough to walk away.

A real man doesn't let people walk over them. They have morals and principles that they follow. They will speak up and let it be known when they have a problem with something so that the problem can be solved.

And yes, real men seem to be a dying breed.

Somebody like Atticus Finch is a real man. And that is why people love that character.

BMD004
I agree with this user about what makes a male a "real man." Goodness, humility, and integrity as well as steadfastness among other lifestyle choices are what make certain men respectable and honorable. I am not sure that this sort of man is decreasing in number. The truth might be that alternative male archetypes are more pronounced in modern times. Also, Atticus Finch seems like an interesting character.

I'm not sure what you think 6: 39 to 7: 01 is supposed to prove.

As for the rest of the video, no way I'm watching all that. If there are a few specific things within them that you want to cite, I will comment.

Not because it's overly long, or because it's boring, but because it's sort of dumb.

MGS and TLOU may not be, but GoT absolutely is.

Does anybody have any example of "real men" being painted as a bad thing by the media? I'd love to see them.

GreySeal9

it's not just real men, but putting men down in general or mocking them.

Examples?

Women on "The Talk" laughing at a story where a man's penis was cut off and put in the garbage disposal.  One host stated, "its quite fabulous"

That this ad was allowed during the Supwerbowl, making light of domestic abuse against men and that it should be found humorous: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eX7oYAygWOQ

in terms of "real men," the growing trend of women being the primary breadwinners in a hosehold

make sure to make some spare time and grab some popcorn before you watch these. pretty lengthy (and this is just a fraction of whats happening in western media!)

6:39 to 7:01 of the second video encapsulates the current state of spineless western males

I don't think anyoe is actually going to watch that.

Not because it's overly long, or because it's boring, but because it's sort of dumb.

From what I saw, it did look pretty dumb, but I will comment on specific examples.

1. I would probably laugh at that.

2. I'd hardly call that domestic abuse.

3. Who cares?

I would have to see the clip of The Talk, but these are two examples and as I said, there are ads that make fun of women as well.

I fail to see how the growing trend of women become the primary breadwinners means that "real men" are dying out. Is there a logical reason why masculinity must be tied to becing the primary breadwinner of a household?

Yes, they are.  Real men have been painted as a bad thing by media.  You're much cooler now if you look and act like a sissy boy.

I'm really not seeing this.

Some examples from very popular current media. Who exactly are you referring to?

I don't think GoT, MGS, TLOU are really that mainstream

Last of us had a better opening weekend than Superman did so as far as video games go I'd say that's pretty mainstream right now. MGS is less mainstream but we're on Gamespot and Snake is an icon. Game of Thrones is insanely popular, it's certainly mainstream. As for pansy like characters I can't come up with anything unless Hart has been really into things that are aimed at pre-teen girls. Also someone linked to manhood academy? L o f*cking el. You'd be hard pressed to find a group less indicative of what it means to be a man.
