He bleached his skin because he had a skin disorder...he didn't "hate' being black. His nose job was due to a lifetime of verbal abuse by his father who would constantly tell him how ugly his nose was.How can you cal BO out on this. HE"S RIGHT! It is pathetic that so many see him as a black icon. He hated being black so badly that he spent million to make himself WHITE! Some here need to stop bashing BO just because it's the GS thing to do.

[QUOTE="UT_Wrestler"]Michael Jackson was a great performer, but there was very little else about him that was "great", which was the point O'Reilly was trying to make.ChuteboxPeople like to latch to their favorite celebrities. I don't see how he's an icon for anything other than music. Throw in the fact he was the biggest philantropist that the entertainment industry had ever seen.

First of all, O'Reily is a bonafide racist. Someone who casually references lynchings and generalizes black people as gangsters is a textbook definition of racist. Hell, in that article he sounds like someone from the old Jim Crow days. He's saying that the skin color of Jackson's kids diminishes his own, "blackness?" It's ridiculous. Like it or not, Jackson did break barriers. He's one of the most successful black musicians and he broke into American pop music like no African-American had done before. Regardless of what he did after that, many African-Americans still look up to him for breaking barriers in mainstream music.
Proof? I've seen people before say Bill O'Reilly did this or that and then offer no proof. Too many people play the race card nowdays. Show me a quote where he references lynchings and generalized black people as gangsters. He probably said this one group such as the Black Panthers are gangsters or some rappers are gangsters and you are like oh no he said all black people are gangsters. MJ did turn himself white and wanted kids with white women and no matter what you can't excuse him sleeping with kids rather he did something or not. Jackson set aside so much money for his own funeral and also on another note the event cost LA $1.4 million when they're majorly in debt. He can be called a music icon but nothing more. You come off as the type of person who wants to excuse everything else in the spirit of political correctness or because he broke barriers and because O'Reilly says stuff that makes sense and doesn't benefit you, you slander him. I think you and O'Reily are both increasing your blood pressue over nothing. Oh, you have to define what Jackson is and you have to make sure everyone accepts your definition. Link 1: O'Reilly said he didn't want to on a lynching party against Michelle Obama if he wasn't sure that's how she feels(about her not being proud of America until now). So said lynching party in the context of not wanting to go after her statement about America not being good until now if he wasn't sure that's how she totally feels. I read that as him saying black people are just like whites and shouldn't be stereotyped because restaurants in a black neighboorhood can be just as nice in an all-white neighboorhood. Yes MJ should be just a music icon. Wow, how pathetic. Do you have any idea what the term "lynch mob" means? It has nothing to do with lynching blacks in the context he used it. It has to do with majority rule/opinion and mob rule essentially being. Honestly, it's sad that I have to actually explain this to people.

I don't put much faith in the "public opinion" of lynch mobs.
People's "opinions" really have absolutely no bearing on a person's guilt.
MrGeezer
Uhhh...you completely missed my point.
Innocent until proven guilty is how our governments justice system works. Even if you practically know someone like John Dillinger robbed banks and killed people, you couldn't arrest him. You have to find someway to prove it, or else he's TECHNICALLY innocent in the court of law.
My point is that you can't use "innocent until proven guilty" to assume someone is innocent. I guess you have to understand the court system to understand what I'm saying.
Uh...you CAN'T "know" something without proof. Otherwise, you merely THINK it, and then you're either right or you're wrong.
Yet again, you completely missed the point. I'm done with you.

You can't use "innocent until proven guilty" to assume someone is guilty either. :? But you're right, people hold personal ideas about others. Therefore my opinion that MJ is innocent is just as valid as your opinion that he isn't. Seems we've reached a middle ground eh?I never stated I thought he was guilty...
I'm simply arguing that using "innocent until proven guilty" structure of a court systems is an invalid argument in this situation.

Second, he's implying that people in the inner city, specifically ethnic minorities, have no value systems. That is racist. Third, the implication is that because it was a black-owned restaurant in a black neighborhood he expected the black people there to be acting like tired, negative stereotypes. Whether you like it or not, those are the words of a racist.

This is honestly making me laugh. You really have no idea what you are talking about. When someone refers to a lynch mob, they don't actually mean literally lynching people. They are referring to, like I said, the actions of a mob or opinions of a mob. Mob rule. Mob-like thinking. A mob. Simple as that.
For instance, when everyone was attacking AIG for the bonuses they receieved, I could of said, "I'm not going to join the lynch mob in attacking these people". It has nothing to do with white people lynching blacks. It has to do with populism. Rule of the majority.
Lynch mobs didn't start happening in the past 300 years...they've been happening for thousands upon thousands of years to people of all kinds for any reason you can think of, not just race. Also, Irish immigrants were also constantly targeted by lynch mobs, but yeah, I guess the Irish O'Reilly likes to attack his own heritage...
My god just google the phrase.

O'reilly doesn't put up with bull ****, which I appreciate, and he cites credible sources for facts, which I also appreciate. While I don't agree with him on some things, he is right about Michael Jackson. Jackson was a great entertainer, not a black icon, at all. In fact, Jackson all but abandoned his black roots. All the black activists ignored hm for this reason, until he died. Now they're acting like he's some sort of hero, and like they were praising him all along. They weren't. They want to have their cake and it too- hypocritical in my view.

It doesn't matter what the context was, it was an extremely insensitive and racist comment. Talking about lynchings so easily is bad enough, but doing so when talking about an African-American is worse. No he said "I don't want to go on a lynching party against Michelle Obama unless there is evidence. Hard facts that say this is how she really feels" So he never said lynch mob and either way both contexts mean the definition of going with the mob like mentality, not literal. Your point #2 about the inner-city schools fails as well. Inner-city schools are more rough, even ones in inner-city WHITE neighboorhoods. Point #3 about the restaurant, that means that restaurants in black neighboorhoods to him can be just as good as in an all-white neighboorhood and no reason for anyone to stereotype is what I got out of that statement. Not him saying black restaurants have no values and this one restaurant surprised him that it was normal and respectful. Your views are flawed and represent false assumptions about his character aka changing what his statements mean to fit your agenda.Someone please kick him in the nuts and while he's bending over in pain, slap him in the face.KikoukenFor saying something you dont agree with? I agree, this seems to be where the discussion gets cloudy.
However, that is not what icon means. That he is a role model or "hero" is up to debate. That he is a black icon is not. Especially if (as Bill did) you try to argue the point not by questioning if he is an Icon, but by questioning if he is black.

and for every truth, he says how many lies?
oh, it doesn't matter... he's on fox news! right?
For saying something you dont agree with? Hardly, I'd hug him for telling the truth a lot of times. He called out oil speculators a long time ago![QUOTE="MoonMarvel"][QUOTE="Kikouken"]Someone please kick him in the nuts and while he's bending over in pain, slap him in the face.finesse-gamer

And since he is on fox everything he says is a lie right? If he says the sky is up it must be down!I understood where Bill was coming from. MJ did all he could to distance himself from being black (white kids, white wives, white transformations, Macaulay Culkin:P), so how could he be a black icon. Then again, maybe its not MJ who decides if he's an icon or not. If millions of blacks see him as an icon, then he has no choice but to be one.Really, what is up with all the hate from him and Rush?
For those who don't read, he seems mostly upset that MJ has kids by white eggs and sperm. Also that he spent some of his money on himself.
