[QUOTE="arbitor365"]

the people who protest such information in schools only reveal their own homophobia/transphobia. None of this is a problem unless you think there is something inherently wrong/distasteful/harmful about homosexuality and transgendered people. You may not think your homophobic, but in reality, your motives are being dictated by inward assumptions that LGBT people are inherently "immoral."

face it. what you really take issue with is equal treatment. whenever children are tought the truth about LGBT people without the filter of condemnation and bigotry, it works against your ill-conceived notions of moral superiority.

ROFLCOPTER603

I'm homophobic and transphobic and I don't care. I don't like when people discriminate based on race, religion, nationality,or disability, but transexuals and homosexuals are going against nature and I find them "immoral" for doing so.

How is something going against nature if it is found in nature? :| and just because something is natural like murdering doesn't mean it's moral. And guns are not natural, should we outlaw them because of that?

[QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"] Doesn't matter. Kids learn the attitudes they grow up with....and from their peers. You cannot teach tolerance by forcing it in school. Which is what I was talking about. And again...this is way too young to even have these cIasses.

LJS9502_basic

Teaching tolerance at schools is a important step, eventually school is going to have a major influence in their social development. That being said this subject is far to complicated for childs and may even have reverse affects as I pointed out in a few posts earlier.
My point being, the school should have a tolerant setting to be in which, ironic, should have strict rules against intolerant behaviour.
Actual lesses in tolerance no, it's about showing tolerance.

You can't teach it. Sure you can have a cIasses on it...but you aren't going to influence someone's ideas anyway. As I said....look at how many differences divide people while the media and the schools "teach" tolerance. I agree the schools should deal with intolerant behavior though....

Do you have any pshycological evidence do back this statement up?

This sounds like a dodge, but just for the sake of it, I typed this into Goodle scholar and can't find anything that proves your claim.

So, is there are peer-reviewed study you can point me to? Since they are out there?

Not really. It really just sounds like you made a claim that you can't back up with anything other than your own opinion.

I mean, if you make a claim, why is it so unreasonable to ask for proof of said claim?

There ARE more than 2 genders seeing as gender is a social construct that isn't reliant on sex. It's indoctrination to teach this?

We are having exact the same opinion i'm just horrible at wording it correctly, I said teaching but i ment showing.
On that account, strict religious or elitist schools are IMO bad, they should be much more neutral and parent should realize it's healthy for their kids to send them to these neutral schools.
Anway we are going a bit offtopic here, I guess everyone agrees that the action of the california school is well intended but very inappropriate.

Teaching and showing are not mutually exclusive. Often "showing" is a part of "teaching".

It absolutely has something to do with the topic. You made a claim (that pertains to the topic) and I asked for proof. Your claim didn't make sense to me and thus I wanted to know if you had any psychological evidence.

First, you tried to dodge by using the lame "There's stuff out there! Google it!" tactic.

When I looked on Google Scholar and found that there were no studies that validate that claim, and asked for direction in finding one, you refused and tried to say that you didn't want to get into the discussion even though you responded to me. If there are studies out there, there should be no problem linking one, should there?

I mean, you can say "I don't want to get into the discussion" all you want or try to pretend that your own comment (which I wanted proof for) had nothing to with the topic, but the fact remains that you did respond to me. If you really didn't want to talk to me, you would have ignored my post all together or if you could have told me that you don't want to discuss it right off the bat. But instead you tried to dodge by saying "Google it!" and then when I couldn't find anything to support your assertion on Google, you opted for the "I don't want to talk to you" angle.

It's pretty obvious that you simply don't have any peer-reviewed studies to back up your assertion, which is really nothing more than your opinion.

I thought you meant that what I asked for proof for had nothing to do with the topic. Actually, I was pretty clear about that.

Nevertheless, I never asked you to disclose the reason you don't want to discuss it (as I think you're just trying to avoid linking a source while saving some face), so that comment is not neccesary. I simply aksed for proof of your claim, which is not unreasonable in a discussion.

You didn't really answer anything. You just deflected.

I simply asked for proof of your claim and when you tried the "Google it!" tactic, I did googled it, couldn't find anything, and asked for direction in finding a source. That is hardly unreasonable and if the studies are out there, why not simply link them regardless of any issue you may have with me? After all, past coments or whatever didn't stop you from responding to me in the first place. And it's certainly not stopping you from responding right now.

No, what you deflected from is providing proof for your claims. I never asked you why you're not discussing it, so there was no reason for you to answer that "question." I asked for proof and that is all.

And the "I don't want to discuss it" comes across as deeply insincere when you keep replying to me.

I mean, you don't want to back up your claim with peer-reviewed sources that would show psychological evidence yet you're perfectly willing to keep replying to me right now? That doesn't really wash.

I could see this starting in say, 5th grade sure. However before that, no. Actually I can see this maybe backfiring. So go ahead. Teach it starting in preschool. Maybe some crazy effects of doing this in a haphazard way just to do it because it is "the top thing" to do, they might come back and do it in a more efficient way. We do need trials I guess.

Don't be so prideful as to think that when you and God disagree, you are the one who is right! What foolish thing to say. God is God. You are not. And you can't send God to hell, but He can do so to you.

Watch yourself Theo. You're skating on thin ice. Stop and think. Don't get so caught up in your pride. I'm starting to get concerned about you. Are you really letting your loyalty to the LGBT agenda trump your loyalty to God?

Should we drop math, science, history, PE, or English to make room for a niche subject that affects the smallest percentage of people?

LJS9502_basic

Children should be taught to honor and respect people whose names begin with "Pal" and end with "tas." We arediverse group of people with a rich culture and history, us Pal-tas', and your kids damn well better learn about us and respect us.

Might as well teach that in school as well. Let's drop required clahsses and spend all day teaching children about every single different category of people we can think of.

And not just people but also hobbits and dwarves and Quendi and Yrch and Valaraukar and Maiar.

Last time I checked he said he's Episcopalian. I don't remember if he was Conservative. But I do remember him being less partisan and his posts were more creative back in 2008 and 2009 (and less prideful and angry).

I suspect a bad influence. Someone he met.

God wouldn't be an ass. If God is an ignoramus punishing His own creation for no reason, there's hardly any reason to call that malevolent jerk a god at all. I don't believe in this vindictive "Everyone but me's going to hell" deity that you do.

[QUOTE="Theokhoth"][QUOTE="bbkkristian"] You sure do know how to grind my gears. :x I could make 1000 different comments but i would get modded because people would find those comments offensive. I'll just say that you don't know what side God is on.whipassmt

If it's the ignorant side, then God can go to hell.

Are you really letting your loyalty to the LGBT agenda trump your loyalty to God?

it's also not a good thing to pretend to know what God thinks and wants. Which is exactly what you're doing.

Theo used to say he was religious....of course he used to be conservative as well.LJS9502_basic
It's the college phase. Anti-establishment. Give it time.

 I'm still religious, here. I even go to church (my heretical, woman-for-a-priest, knows-I'm-gay-but-doesn't-care church) every week.

I'm wasn't talking about religion. Just the "protest everything" phase that many college students go through. I'm not religous myself.

Looks like this turned into another "let's all comment on Theo as a poster" thread. Shame.

I'm not bashing theokhoth. He's just changed a lot over the last few years and I'm betting that's because he's in college. That tends to happen when people go away - they come back with different beliefs.

[QUOTE="Theokhoth"] God wouldn't be an ass. If God is an ignoramus punishing His own creation for no reason, there's hardly any reason to call that malevolent jerk a god at all. I don't believe in this vindictive "Everyone but me's going to hell" deity that you do. arbitor365

theokoth, im not trying to divert from the overall topic at hand, but seriously dude, you dont sound like someone who needs religion (much less christianity). the god in christianity is a vengeful, homophobic, vindictive, capricious, cruel individual, according to pretty much the entire bible. if you really disregard the bible so much, you might as well be a deist. and you said yourself that deism is pointless and you would simply be an atheist. please, just drop the religious BS. you dont need it. arent you getting fed up with it by now? it sounds like you are.

I disagree with pretty much everything you've said, hence why I'm still religious. If I thought any of it was true then for the sake of my sanity I'd be an atheist.

I don't think you were bashing him (though whipassmt definitely is) as you're comments seemed light-hearted enough. I just don't know why threads in which he is involved always seem to devolve into users commenting about him. And there's one guy (who I won't name; he's not in this particular thread) who just seems obsessed.

Just from making observations, I'd say most users who start off on him do so because he finds a way to disagree with almost anybody in well-disguised trollish fashion. Again, this is just from observing and reading threads and my personal opinion.

As much as I'd like to believe God is a completely Benevolent figure the Bible IS less than...consistent, shall we say?

I think they're just mad at his positions, but I'm not really going to get too far into this discussion about this since I'd be contributing to what I'm objecting to.

It's not positions that antagonize people....more the approach. Which goes back to our earlier discussion as well.

I find it futile. Just say, treat everyone with respect regardless his gender, race, religion, political view point, sexual orientations, blah blah blah. Treat everyone with respect. It has nothing to do with gender blah blah blah and stop making it a scapegoat when it has nothing to do wtih gender. Treat everyone with respect.magicalclick
Now that would be a better way to teach children. Not picking specific groups to tolerate....but making it a statement in regard to how to treat others. I teach my child to be tolerant....without having to get too specific.
