That is how I feel when I hear people calling semi-auto ar-15's assualt weapons. Even a novice should be able to tell that an assault weapon fires multiple rounds with one trigger pull.

Did you not know what gun I was talking about when I referred to it as an assault weapon? You're missing the point, yet again.
They have no idea what you mean when you say "assault weapon". For many people, this term implies that it's a fully automatic weapon. Many people use the term to make the weapon sound much more deadly than it actually is, as if it's a rambo-like machine gun that shoots rounds the size of baseballs. In reality, it's a semi-automatic weapon, just like your standard pistol, which most commonly fires a .22 (something that you'd hunt, say, a rabbit with). Just because you use the term and assign it to something like an AR-15, doesn't mean you know anything about the AR-15 other than what it looks like.
Just because I know what a Ferrari 438 Italia is doesn't mean I know anything meaningful about it.
I know exactly what I mean when I say assault weapon - it's a vague term that applies to a wide range of firearms, and in this case I've used the term to refer specifically to the bushmaster rifle that Adam Lanza used. Moreover, an in-depth knowledge of the intricacies of firearms isn't really necessary for the argument I've been making throughout this thread - it's much more rooted in psychology and economics - I could've easily just been referred to the rifle used as a widget and that wouldn't have altered the crux of my argument in any way.My argument in its most general form is that it's very difficult for people as socially alienated as Adam Lanza was to get their hands on black market widgets. What these widgets actually are doesn't really matter.
