Agreed, the thing is Obama hasn't really advocated much or made blunt action toward gun rights, and the 2nd amendment. But when you hear him speak, he does pepper in comments on how citizens don't need certain times of guns, or how certain regulations and bans are needed so its obvious that he opposes gun rights at this stage but is sake of his agenda, wont challenge gun ownership like they attempted to in the 90s. He has kept everything suppressive, especially after the attempted Assault weapons ban in the 90s back fired miserably, which people speculated caused the Democratic party to lose political favor. But I am certain if he had it his way without repercussion, he would impose more regulation which I do not agree upon at all. If you can't chisel away with the 2nd Amendment, they will direct their attention somewhere else (The TSA for example; who suffers more from it? Potential terrorist, or the American people? because I haven't seen it benefit in anyway). Governing power given to the few is never a good idea, it should be given to the people. After all, the United States was meant to be a Constitutional Republic where the people held prime power, not two partiesPlease f*ck off already.[QUOTE="worlock77"][QUOTE="hartsickdiscipl"]

No, I really do want you to take your nonsensical bullsh*t and f*ck off already. This is a dumb idea, gun control isn't something that Obama or the current Democrats are particularly interested in, and school shootings have never been powerful enough to motivate the U.S. population to take crime-reducing measures like this or prison reforms. Gun control in the U.S. isn't going to be very effective in the short to medium term at reducing gun ownership rates anyway.

Well these shooting seem to happen in "Gun-Free" zones where legally people can't carry weapons. So that is a problem with thestatistics.
I dunno what the US populations obsession with owning firearms is. Sure its in the bill of rights, the right to bare arms, but do you really need them? Do you think its working out well for your population? How many violent crimes with guns do u have yearly? or even daily? The people who wrote the bill of rights were not infallible gods....maybe they made a mistake in this regard. If anything, I think this shooting, alongside the countless violent crimes that occur every day in the states with firearms, show that the US populace just isn't ready to responsibly own firearms. Im just using the US as an example since they just had the incident recently and its probably the developed country with the highest incidence of violent crimes using firearms, but overall, I dont think any society is ready for its citizens to own firearms. People just arent that civilized. But ironically, when people become civilized they realize they dont need firearms.

another one?
It was Sunday evening. A 19 year old that worked at a chinese place, close to theater. Apparently was mad at his lady friend and wigged out. Shot a bystander in the parking lot leading to the theater, went inside fired one shot and was shot by an off duty moonlighting deputy. Currently in SAMC in stable condition, along with the bystander. Now since he was 19 the pistol was either a friends or family members or one that he purchased off someone unreputable. I live in the city where happened. Its not unlikely given that side of town it was on. Happens quite often. Though still more vehicle deaths this year than anything else in Tx.[QUOTE="hartsickdiscipl"]In case you aren't aware, one just happened in Texas a few hours ago. because rights are more important than the lives of little children apparently.88 people have died in mass shootings in the US this year. It's tragic and incredibly sad that this has happened, but in no way an excuse to infringe upon one of the cornerstones of the US. The 2nd Amendment must not be infringed upon. There will be a civil war if it does happen.
If you don't understand this, you don't belong in a discussion about this subject- Criminals don't care about the law. Lunatics don't care about the law. They will continue to arm and put the public in danger. The best way to keep them somewhat in check is to keep responsible, law-abiding citizens armed as well. People so quickly forget that the Oregon Mall shooting and last night's San Antonio theater shooting were quickly stopped by people with concealed weapons. The crazies will still do crazy things, legal or not. They will get their guns. Passing laws won't magically make them stop.
I have to laugh at the naive people here. This country has had the right to bear arms as one of it's cornerstones for well over 200 years. If our government tries to mess with that now, they will have a war on their hands. This is too deeply entrenched.

It's easy to walk into a school or movie theater and shoot the place up if you know that nobody will be shooting back. Also, there's no way to account for actions of the mentally ill, as most sources are reporting the shooter to be. More attention needs to be paid to such people so that they don't reach this point. That is the extent of what needs to be done. Maybe that and armed guards in more schools.
