Because we should absolutely punish those who had nothing to do with this horrific crime.

hartsickdiscipl

Taking away people's ability to kill other people is not punishment. It's progress. Is time to get out of the 17th century and move forward with the rest of the civilized world.

Then take the weapons away from the military too.

Mayor Bloomberg and other push for more gun control in the wake of this tragedy, but they ignore the real ways in which the tragedy could have actually been minimized:

A 1997 high school shooting in Pearl, Miss., was halted by the school's vice principal after he retrieved the Colt .45 he kept in his truck.
A 1998 middle school shooting ended when a man living next door heard gunfire an

A 2002 terrorist attack at an Israeli school was quickly stopped by an armed teacher and a school guard.
A 2002 law school shooting in Grundy, Va., came to an abrupt conclusion when students carrying firearms confronted the shooter.
A 2007 mall shooting in Ogden, Utah, ended when an armed off-duty police officer intervened.

A 2012 church shooting in Aurora, Colo., was stopped by a member of the congregation carrying a gun.
At the recent mall shooting in Portland, Ore., the gunman took his own life minutes after being confronted by a shopper carrying a concealed weapon.

Have you ever played Postal 2? If you open fire in a public area, the armed citizens pull out their handguns and take you out. If they weren't armed, you could just kill them all until the police finally showed up.

Yes, it's a game, but that's how it works in reality as well.

Exactly. All of the freaking idiots (including Obama) who have been saying things like "guns belong in the hands of soldiers" seem to have short memories. Do they not remember the reason why the 2nd Amendment exists? Apparently not. With people like him running the world, the US will soon be added to that list of countries with disarmed, trampled citizens.

Have you ever considered the possibility that some things in a game may be realistic, while others are obviously not? Nice try. I'd like to see some idiot try to shoot up a theater in Texas. He might take out a few people, but he'd go down before he shot nearly as many as were hit in Aurora.

Agreed, the thing is Obama hasn't really advocated much or made blunt action toward gun rights, and the 2nd amendment. But when you hear him speak, he does pepper in comments on how citizens don't need certain times of guns, or how certain regulations and bans are needed so its obvious that he opposes gun rights at this stage but is sake of his agenda, wont challenge gun ownership like they attempted to in the 90s. He has kept everything suppressive, especially after the attempted Assault weapons ban in the 90s back fired miserably, which people speculated caused the Democratic party to lose political favor. But I am certain if he had it his way without repercussion, he would impose more regulation which I do not agree upon at all. If you can't chisel away with the 2nd Amendment, they will direct their attention somewhere else (The TSA for example; who suffers more from it? Potential terrorist, or the American people? because I haven't seen it benefit in anyway). Governing power given to the few is never a good idea, it should be given to the people. After all, the United States was meant to be a Constitutional Republic where the people held prime power, not two parties

This is a dumb idea, gun control isn't something that Obama or the current Democrats are particularly interested in, and school shootings have never been powerful enough to motivate the U.S. population to take crime-reducing measures like this or prison reforms. Gun control in the U.S. isn't going to be very effective in the short to medium term at reducing gun ownership rates anyway.

Don't care, no one is taking my guns.. I'm not out shooting people so my guns don't need to be taken away. Gun laws do nothing but stop people protecting themselves. People that want to use guns for the wrong thing will still get their hands on a gun and do what they want. It just means there won't be anyone else with a gun to stop them.

Well these shooting seem to happen in "Gun-Free" zones where legally people can't carry weapons. So that is a problem with thestatistics.

I dunno what the US populations obsession with owning firearms is. Sure its in the bill of rights, the right to bare arms, but do you really need them? Do you think its working out well for your population? How many violent crimes with guns do u have yearly? or even daily? The people who wrote the bill of rights were not infallible gods....maybe they made a mistake in this regard. If anything, I think this shooting, alongside the countless violent crimes that occur every day in the states with firearms, show that the US populace just isn't ready to responsibly own firearms. Im just using the US as an example since they just had the incident recently and its probably the developed country with the highest incidence of violent crimes using firearms, but overall, I dont think any society is ready for its citizens to own firearms. People just arent that civilized. But ironically, when people become civilized they realize they dont need firearms.

another one?

It was Sunday evening. A 19 year old that worked at a chinese place, close to theater. Apparently was mad at his lady friend and wigged out. Shot a bystander in the parking lot leading to the theater, went inside fired one shot and was shot by an off duty moonlighting deputy. Currently in SAMC in stable condition, along with the bystander. Now since he was 19 the pistol was either a friends or family members or one that he purchased off someone unreputable. I live in the city where happened. Its not unlikely given that side of town it was on. Happens quite often. Though still more vehicle deaths this year than anything else in Tx.

Have you ever considered the possibility that some things in a game may be realistic, while others are obviously not? Nice try. I'd like to see some idiot try to shoot up a theater in Texas. He might take out a few people, but he'd go down before he shot nearly as many as were hit in Aurora.

That's what happens when you start shooting in public places in Texas. Somebody draws a gun and drops you before you can do much damage.

But it was a gun that he used, so I have no clue why someone wouldn't takenecessary steps to prevent a crisis like this from occuring ever again.

"Think of the children."

I hate that line of reasoning. It always is a knee-jerk reaction to something and never actually addresses the real problems.

Yeah as long as people get to keep their pieces of metal that discharge other smaller pieces of metal then it's okay if people die. NRA 4 lyfe

[QUOTE="JustPlainLucas"] In case you aren't aware, one just happened in Texas a few hours ago. Only a couple hurt though.dave123321

That's what happens when you start shooting in public places in Texas. Somebody draws a gun and drops you before you can do much damage.

How is that secession petition moving along?

It got over 120,000 signatures and no response at all from the White House. That's nearly 5 times the required number of signatures needed to reach the "public response" threshold as specified on the website.

88 people have died in mass shootings in the US this year. It's tragic and incredibly sad that this has happened, but in no way an excuse to infringe upon one of the cornerstones of the US. The 2nd Amendment must not be infringed upon. There will be a civil war if it does happen.

If you don't understand this, you don't belong in a discussion about this subject- Criminals don't care about the law. Lunatics don't care about the law. They will continue to arm and put the public in danger. The best way to keep them somewhat in check is to keep responsible, law-abiding citizens armed as well. People so quickly forget that the Oregon Mall shooting and last night's San Antonio theater shooting were quickly stopped by people with concealed weapons. The crazies will still do crazy things, legal or not. They will get their guns. Passing laws won't magically make them stop.

I have to laugh at the naive people here. This country has had the right to bear arms as one of it's cornerstones for well over 200 years. If our government tries to mess with that now, they will have a war on their hands. This is too deeply entrenched.

!. The guns was stolen from his mother 2. They were both pistols (one a SiG Sauer, and the other is a Baretta) 3. The gunman had severe mental issues

Fewer children died in that shooting than die in some of Obama's drone strikes. His insincere crocodile tears are pathetic. His agenda has little to do with dead children and everything to do with control.

I'm not looking to infringe upon people's rights frankly, but for a tragedy like this to come and go without searching for solutions because of the argument, "Don't take mah guns!" is unacceptable in my opinion and frankly unforgivable.

LOL comparing guns to video games.I didn't realize a PS3 can kill 20+ people in minutes. thanks for enlightening me

still, i'd give up gaming if it meant no one ever would die in shooting rampage. not sure if the closet sociopaths with their guns would do the same

It's easy to walk into a school or movie theater and shoot the place up if you know that nobody will be shooting back. Also, there's no way to account for actions of the mentally ill, as most sources are reporting the shooter to be. More attention needs to be paid to such people so that they don't reach this point. That is the extent of what needs to be done. Maybe that and armed guards in more schools.
