I think that he is trying to tell us, that most religions have certain common features. For instance, belief in God and afterlife. They differ on certain aspects, for instance Muslims considering Jesus(P.B.U.H.) as prophet and Christians considering him as son of God.

You know, until someone corrected me, I always thought that "pbuh" thing was an insult.

I'm an idiot.

Well, I do remember that incident. Infact, it was I who corrected you.

All in all, I think all religion is BS that is an excuse to live a good life. All religions are probably wrong. I believe that there was someone or something that created all of this, nothing else. No heaven or hell. When you die, you just simply don't exist anymore.

Relgion and government actually do work very closely with each other. Which makes it all the more un-trustworthy.

That isn't remotely true. Just because Bush has beliefs doesn't mean the US is run by religion. Where that true many things would be different.:|

They don't work closely together. We have separation of Church and State here for a reason and to state otherwise is illogical. I noticed neither of you have any concrete facts to back this up....and money and a pledge are not the answer.:|

It doesn't take a genius to figure it out.

Let's just say that the government is quite happy that many people fearfully and mindlessly believe in an unproven deity who can take everything they've ever had away from them. ;)

Take it from there.

It's a tool to enforce good behavior and teach morals. That's why basically every civilization has had some form of "god" and afterlife. To scare people into being well behaved. If there were no afterlife, there'd be no consequences for actions.

Blending the fear of god with the laws of our country has done a great deal to make things easier on the government. It makes us predictable...well, it makes christians predictable.

What's this seperation of church and state you speak of? Our currency clearly states, "In God We Trust". We swear to tell the truth in court...ON A BIBLE...or, in the cases where a bible isn't used, they still say, "so help you god."

They're always playing on your fear of god (that they hope you have) to get you to follow their own game.

I'm not vague. Only those who choose to avoid answering....probably can't answer...use that term. Everyone else gets it.

Speaking as a Christian......our religion ISN'T based on fear. Something you seem to misunderstand continually in these threads. Thus your basis for saying the government works with religion is false.

Which laws specifially are religious laws? Are you forced to attend church services...no. Can you drink alcohol (at the legal age) as some religions forbid it....yes. As well as softdrinks or any drink with caffeine.

There are no Bibles here in the courts..and it's do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth under penalty of perjury.;)

Last time I was in court, the judge looked me right in the eye and said, "Do you swear to tell the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth so help you god?" I laughed inside a little bit, and then said, "Yup." ;)

Again....no fear. You really don't understand Christianity...and I'm still waiting for proof that the government uses religious fear(?) to run. As of yet...you have provided none. Anecdotal evidence without proof to the contrary. If you are going to make statements....you should have formed a reason. I guess not though since you continually avoid answering.

I don't believe in coincidences. Things happen for a reason, be it simple cause and effect or something else. Perhaps you heard it a while ago, locked it in your subconscious, and brought it out because you felt it was adequate for the discussion? Or perhaps your own argument is being beaten and you need someone else's argument to fill in while you come up with a different strategy?

As per the original post, however, there is no flaw in Christianity, just as there are no flaws in all religions. It is the individual interpretation of such religions that are flawed.

Are you going to do this again?

All I can tell you is that every time I speak, or type, I do it from my heart, or my mind, whatever you want to call it. I DO NOT copy others, at least not knowingly, and therefore, it's not copying.

By the way, I'm playing the Carlin clip right now, and he hasn't said what I said. Not yet anyway. I'm still watching, about halfway in.

Neither am I. I claiming that I speak from my own mind when I speak, whether or not somebody else may have said it before. I wouldn't even want to copy anyone. That's not my $tyle, in fact, it's dispicable.

Or perhaps your own argument is being beaten and you need someone else's argument to fill in while you come up with a different strategy?

Deity_Slapper

Are you going to do this again?

All I can tell you is that every time I speak, or type, I do it from my heart, or my mind, whatever you want to call it. I DO NOT copy others, at least not knowingly, and therefore, it's not copying.

By the way, I'm playing the Carlin clip right now, and he hasn't said what I said. Not yet anyway. I'm still watching, about halfway in.

Swearing on the Bible- 0:00-0:52

"So help you God"- 2:07-2:32

The whole point of the video is that the government uses religion, just as you are trying to prove.

Ok, so what part of that Carlin clip did I supposedly copy, specifically? I just watched the whole thing, and he didn't say what I said.

You couldn't take anything I've ever said here and attribute it to some famous person. I dare you to try.

Theokhoth

I'm sorry to tell you, but most of your arguments are just rehashes of something someone has said before, especially in recent history.

Perhaps because those arguments have merit?

Mostly because they're popular.

Way to be vague, buddy.

Like no one else has discussed swearing upon the bible? And if they do, they're copying Carlin? :?

And the "help you god" part...HA! I didn't copy Carlin, I was repeating what the judge REALLY DID SAY to me, that unpleasant day when I was facing a misdemeanor possession charge.

I can't believe you even said anything. Was this supposed to damage my credibility or something? Try a little harder. But why be a hater anyway. This is the third time you've popped into a thread, and specifically came after me, and only me. What's your beef, dude?

Too bad LJ. I didn't copy Carlin, and I've never even seen that skit before.

Yet...you still haven't answered.;)

And I noticed you called someone else vague. Seems a common tactic. From now on when you use it I shall just assume you are avoiding.

1. What did I not answer?

2. You've not answered many of my questions, so what's the deal anyway?

3. You always use the word "vague" as well...therefore, can I assume the same things about you, that you will assume about me? :?

4. You keep asking for evidence, yet you can't give any for the god that you repeatedly claim exists. Why ask for evidence from others, when you can't supply your own, to the most IMPORTANT pieces of the puzzle you claim to have? For instance, when you said: "God is the foundation." That's an opinion, plain and simple. You can't even prove god exists, to begin with.

You. You claim that you can solve all problems and yet just cause them by vauge arguments that you can exit out of easily if you get into a bind. You have done just that, you've used vauge arguments to draw people in and cut them off, claiming you've beaten them when in fact they've beaten you.

What?!?!

This post was vague. The very thing you just said that I do. What gives? I never claimed to "solve all problems" either. Now you're putting words in my mouth, which is an act of desperation. Go away if you can't do any better than this, please.

Deity_Slapper

1. You never answered anything substantial in regard to your religion/government opinion. You came up with catch phrases...which mean nothing.

2. I answer...you just don't like/understand the answer. That is not my problem.

3. I don't always use the word vague. In fact, it's rare.

4. Show me ONE time I stated unequivocably that God existed and there is proof. However, you many times DO state absolute statements without proof. Case in point...government and religion.

1. I gave specific examples of what I was talking about.

2. Maybe this happened with you? You didn't understand my answers? I guess that's not my problem...

3. I've seen you say it quite often to many posters who argue with you...but, forget it, I'm not going to go scanning your posts just to show you where you did it. I doesn't mean THAT much to me.

4. I didn't say that you said you had proof. I said that you claim he is real. Period.

Just by saying that you believe in god, you're claiming that he is real. You wouldn't believe in something that isn't real, right?

1. No you didn't. You mentioned a few catch phrases. That does not prove your analogy about government and religion but since you still avoid answering....I'll take that as no you can't and be done with it.

2. I answered your questions. You didn't accept the answers. Again...not my problem that you can't conceive of opinions other than your own.

3. I rarely use that word....and I'm sure you couldn't provide the proof anyway.

4. And I asked for you to prove that. Period.

Wrong. I have never given an absolute statement. My beliefs are my beliefs. I don't tell anyone they can factually be proven. You...however...do that frequently with your beliefs.

Now unless you answer my question...I'm not interested.

not my problem that you can't conceive of opinions other than your own. LJS9502_basic

I was saying that maybe this is what's happening with you. Not being able to understand my answers...like when I answered your question, but you didn't see it as an answer...it was really just you not understanding that it WAS an answer. and now you call it catch-phrases..

I have never given an absolute statement. My beliefs are my beliefs. I don't tell anyone they can factually be proven.

LJS9502_basic

Jeez...this is like trying to pull teeth...

The fact that you say you believe in god, is also a crystal clear way of claiming that "HE IS REAL". Period.

You're saying that god is real, by your expression of belief in him.

It shouldn't be that hard to understand the point here.
