You are right respect is earned, but this is not just about respect, this is about freedom of speech, its the cornerstone in any free western world, and just because we in the west have been kind enough to say to places at war or suffering "come up here and live with us" it does not mean that we are suddenly dispectful because we don't acknowledge some backwater religion and agree to let their beliefs dictate our way of life. Infact if you want to talk about being dispectful, its those people who are showing us dispect by not accepting fundamental principals we have built our countries and systems on.

Not to mention that if we allow this group to be "special" what group is next? Because how can we say no next time and are you ok with the fact that you are telling people that if they want something done, all they have to do is pick up a gun and shoot a bunch of people, and we as a society will buggle like a branch in a hurricane.

And as someone who have done 2 tours in Afghanistan i would as the chief-editor of Charlie rather die standing than on my knees.. Because that is what freedom is about and no extremist is going to ruin my world just because they follow some insanity they created.

There has been a lot of discussion about freedom of expression and that is the core issue but what hasn't been discussed as much is the free market. These people are producing a product. No one is forcing anyone who doesn't want the product to buy it or view it. There isn't anyone getting physically hurt or abused from the production of this product and if anyone finds the topic disturbing or the style of humour offensive it is well within your rights to not purchase their product.

The unarmed civilians wouldn't have been killed if the French police hadn't been using them as human shields. :-)

Now i come to think of it the whole thing misfired on extrimists, france and rest countries as US, UK will gonna publish more vulgar cartoons from now on for whole world to see and laugh.
