Personal protection, yes! Of course you'd need a gun to protect yourself since... everybody else has a gun. The only way to make sure someone doesn't shoot you is to shoot them first. If you lived further outside the borders of the US you'd probably be able to see it.

Guns aren't even the issue...I live in a state with some of the most conservative gun laws in the nation and the crime rate is amongst the lowest in the country.
