Sure, but what I'm suggesting is that the proportion of people who say such stupid things is higher in the USA. The UK is much more secularised and irreligious than the USA, and that's the way toast_burner and I like itFunky_Llama
how would you know the proportion???????????????

[quote="Pastor Sean Harris"] "So your little son starts to act a little girlish when he is four years old and instead of squashing that like a cockroach and saying, Man up, son, get that dress off you and get outside and dig a ditch, because that is what boys do, you get out the camera and you start taking pictures of Johnny acting like a female and then you upload it to YouTube and everybody laughs about it and the next thing you know, this dude, this kid is acting out childhood fantasies that should have been squashed.
Can I make it any clearer? Dads, the second you see your son dropping the limp wrist, you walk over there and crack that wrist. Man up. Give him a good punch. Ok? You are not going to act like that. You were made by God to be a male and you are going to be a male. And when your daughter starts acting to Butch you reign her in. And you say, Oh, no, sweetheart. You can play sports. Play them to the glory of God. But sometimes you are going to act like a girl and walk like a girl and talk like a girl and smell like a girl and that means you are going to be beautiful. You are going to be attractive. You are going to dress yourself up.

[QUOTE="Funky_Llama"]Seems a reasonable sentiment, given that America is (in comparison to other Western countries) exceptionally accomplished at this kind of religious bigotryFunky_Llama

No it's not reasonable. A few idiots saying stupid things in a huge counry with a monster population isn't worthy of that statement and Toast says it in every thread about something happening in the US.

I doubt it's much higher if at all. If it doesn't happen in the US, it doesn't get reported. Nobody would give a hoot if this was said outside of the US. This is just something one guy said and it's big news.

I do apologise, I'm just not used to different states having different laws, so I always view America as one country with one set of laws.

every state might as well be its own country. We are not a single minded nation

I wouldn't, and can't be certain. But I think it's very likely. I mean, almost no one in the UK even goes to church, so that's a much lower proportion of pastors as a result. Of those who do, most are much more casual about the whole 'god' thing (as compared to the disturbingly high proportion of Americans who are YECs, for example), which one would expect to imply a lower proportion of this kind of insane fire-and-brimstone religious extremism

Another brain numb fanatic determined to spread more hate and ignorance of the natural differences within the human race, it's people like that who give the human race and religion a bad name. Forcing limited gender roles on people never works, it only leads to a great deal of misery and repressed feelings that can cause someone to go insane from trying to live a lie enforced by fools. If a man enjoys things like knitting or cross stitch or wants to be a house husband, then that's his right. Just as it is the right of a woman who enjoys playing sports to be able to do the hobby she enjoys. Just as it's a right to let people live as they are, instead of forcing them to be someone they are not. If someone is homosexual and wishes to be able to love someone else of the same sex as themselves, then that is their right. No religious fanatic has the right to force people to live a lie just to suit themselves. People like that need to put down their bible, it's clearly a weapon of mass stupidity.

American media seems to spread to the far corners of the earth, reaching more people than most other country's media. It seems more people around the world are exposed to US media

No. It's because as you said yourself your country is normalized. United States is diverse enough that the world awaits each tidbit of news of something off the wall that comes from having such diversity. The UK's racism, bigotry, and priorities are mostly nation wide so most of what happens there is expected, and thus, boring.

toast_burner

It's not legal. It's just some proposal by some bassackwards dude.

It's not just the beat the gay out part that iritates me. But also the bill that doesn't allow same sex marriage and civil unions.

The crazy child beater is just that, a crazy guy. The bill is actually a legal document.

The bill is a proposal not a legal law. Most likely it will not suceed in being made into law. There are thousands of crazy bills that get proposed every year. So it's not unusual to have something like this. Highly doubt it will see the light of day. Even if it does, it will likely be found unconstitutional. There was a bill in CA that outlawed gay marriage and that was promptly defeated.

"But if I see you hanging out with another boy, I will make sure he feels the wrath of God before he even lays a finger on you." Just following that line to its logical conclusion. Can't wait to see this make the rounds on The Daily Show/Colbert Report.

If anything, I see gay rights and gay issues improving in the US. Sure, there are tons of people that will likely resist, but the majority of people in the US are now pro-gay marriage. It's an inevitable tide that can not be stopped by the Jimmy Bob's and Bobby Ray's of the country. lol.

By the way, I'm 98% convinced that Sean Harris is a closeted homosexual himself. Can't someone set him up with a hidden camera trick?
I'd love to see that guys life get ruined, he deserves it. I have zero tolerance for these kind of 'people'.

what an intellectually stimulating post

hey man i'm just saying if you are not smart enough to even follow the tenants of your own religion you should probably stay quiet and let the adults make the decisions.

if what they do is wrong they will be punished by and by.

do you guys not read the book they give you to read?

are you really going to put your eternal soul in danger by doing something that completely contradicts what jesus his damn self told you to do?

like i said you don't get to claim you are smart when the direct evidence shows you are not even smart enough to carry out the simple ass instructions jesus gave you.
