I don't see Belgium doing something like this.
Hindu people are allowed to carry a dagger around. It has something to do with their religion.I'm not sure what.
They can carry it around at school.

deciding how people should live in separate cultures.. is nothing less than Tyranny and intolerance. Especially, considering wearing a veil.. isn't killing anybody.

But should they be allowed to if they want? I think so. This really doesn't surprise me at all, though.

I'm not trying to decide how anyone lives. I'm doing the opposite, I don't want radical fathers and husbands making their wives cover their faces. Seems rather sexist to me.

Let Muslims live the way they want to. If a woman wants to wear it, then let her! It's not like the men are forcing women to wear these things in a society like France.

Obviously, this post contains generalizations that will not be true for everyone. That said, France is very much a secularized, religiously neutral country. The idea of extremism of any kind is very scary to them. Most see the Burqa as a way to cling to a religion they view as outdated and a failure to conform to "French culture." There is a lot of anti-foreign sentiment in France right now, mostly over the fear that outsiders will take their jobs.

Ethnocentrism is the tendency to believe that one's ethnic or cultural group is centrally important, and that all other groups are measured in relation to one's own sexual behavior. The ethnocentric individual will judge other groups relative to their own particular ethnic group or culture, especially with concern to language, behavior, customs, and religion. from Wikipedia This is what you're displaying.. and it has nothing to do with protecting women from sexism.

Some women like to wear it as part of tradition or because it makes them feel secure. Extremism has nothing to do with it.

Allow me to highlight why this is idiotic: France is outlawing an article of clothing.

It's kinda sexist in itself, really. Passing a law that infringes on a woman's rights?

I will not express my personal feelings about Muslims on here because I will probably get moderated or something but in my opinion I think that wearing those things are ridiculous and I doubt most of the women want to wear them.

Good.

Some Muslim countries force women to wear the burka ( in public )no matter what religion they follow. So France takes the opposite stand. If the muslims dont like it, they should move.

I don't know if some Muslim women actually want to wear a burqa - some probably do, but there are certainly a significant number of women in France who are being forced to wear this oppressive, humiliating garment. Now whether or not this justifies an outright ban on the burqa; it's not the perfect policy, but I think it's a policy that is good enough. There is no other realistic way to identify which women are being forced to wear burqas and which are not.

well, except most Muslims are first generation immigrants who are more likely to voluntary wear it as being 'forced' to.

Let's assume that's true - there are still a significant number of women who are being forced in some way to wear the burqa, and those that ARE wearing it voluntarily are providing cover to that oppression, in the same manner that most people in banks who are wearing ski masks would be providing cover to a minority of people in ski masks who want to rob a bank.

Right, because cultural garments are perfectly comparable to armed robbery.

That's obviously not the point I am trying to make. It's illegal to wear a ski mask in a bank because it makes it much easier to identify a bank robber. Apply that logic in this case - by making it illegal to wear the burqa, it becomes much easier to identify the women who are being oppressed.
