I can't believe this. No one takes responsibility for themselves anymore. That shooter acted on intent and would have carried out the attack whether he obtained the guns legally or illegally, the same with other high profile shooters. They didn't all decide to shoot up a group of people because they had a gun. They did it because they were sick in the head and planned it so meticulously.

Sometimes I wonder if the Brits in the past talked about banning knives due to Jack the Ripper attacks.

leviathan91

they did.

Actually weapons of all sorts were banned from being owned by commoners at that time. you had to have a permit or be a gentlemen/royalty.

I can see that this thread has predictably turned into a gun control debate, which was exactly the purpose of the shooting. Just like the Colorado theatre massacre. Fortunately it backfired in CO and people starting buying guns like hotcakes. I can only hope the same happens here. I hate to have to say this, but I bet we see at least a couple more mass shootings in the US/UK this summer. People aren'tquite worked up enough to give up their 2nd amendment just yet. Won't take that much more though.

[QUOTE="DrTrafalgarLaw"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Again it depends on INTENT. You do not have to fire a gun at people. Second....you better not be eating meat/fish. That would make you a hypocrite since the diet of a carnivore demands killing animals.frannkzappa

So what is this INTENT of a person buying a gun? Just to own it? Gotta collect them all?

I bought a gun cause i was stabbed and mugged , and i didn't want that to happen again.

Seemed like a good reason to me.

so what if your attacker has a gun as well?

Nope, that's Minnesota. MN has more people of Scandinavian descent than any other state; they make up about 30-35% of the population. Signed, A Minnesotan with 75% Scandinavian ancestry :P

I'm not a gun person, but I believe in the right to own a gun. I do think there should be tighter restriction on who can own guns, but you can't keep out all the crazies. People will get their hands on guns despite law, just like they'll get drugs too. I don't think that anyone in WI should complain about the gun law, since they are among the least restrictive in the country. With the present makeup of the state legislature, there won't be a knee-jerk response in favor of more gun control.

The report I just heard on ABC suggested the shooter was an Army veteran with links to a white supremacist group. That would explain a lot. It makes me even more disgusted that this happened in my state.

CNN posted the same information. They also suggested his identity may be released as early as this morning.

There are allegations of Islamophobia already at work, which will obviously be pinned at the Republican Party or the Tea Party.

I don't agree with blaming the GOP or Tea Party for Islamaphobia, but Michelle Bachman isn't helping with her witchhunt against Huma Abedin.

How can you be neo-nazi AND punk? Doesn't make sense. Punks are anarchists so they shouldn't be asking for a white state since they don't believe in states in the first place.

Nazi punk is not a rare phenomenon. It gained traction in Europe and eventually the United States in the 1980's and still exists today. The majority of the hardcore community is strongly against the nazi punk scene.

Also not all punks are anarchists. Michale Graves, former lead singer of the Misfits in the 90's, describes himself as a conservative punk.

They do. It's called background checks, age restrictions, and the types of persons who are allowed to own and/or handle a gun.

The problem is that people are relunctant to allow any kind of gun control measures because its a means to an end for gun control groups. Many of them want to see the majority of guns banned and what is left heavily regulated. That attitude is preventing any kind of nation wide restriction system from being set up. People are relunctant to give an inch when they know these groups will push for a foot.

Except there shouldn't be federal laws regarding gun control. There are states and local communities that do well with and without guns and have their own set of rules and regulations. I can understand if New York outlaws the use of guns but why have a nation-wide effort to ban guns across the country?

Intent is the main issue here. Guns don't make people kill each other, it's intent.

Considering a gun is designed to kill, they do facilitate it. Making them easier to obtain obviously makes it easier for people to use in a homicide.

People are very impulsive. They don't always think things through. The readily available nature of some of these guns is definitely not a good thing. I still support the right of people to own guns, just not assault/automatics.

[QUOTE="ultimameteora"] Well I guess they need to raise the bar on it.l4dak47

They had before. Doesn't always work. As I stated before, intent is the cause, not the gun. Guns don't make people kill each other.

Never understood the whole "guns don't kill people, people do!" Um, the only reason guns exist is to put a body 6 feet below.

You got it wrong. The saying is "Guns don't kill people, I do!"

Netherscourge

so now was this shooting brought to us by the 1st Amendment?...If he was locked up none of this would ever have happened.....damn freedoms..

I am not opposed to banning Neo-Nazi Punk Music, AS WELL AS guns.

I think we should ban Netherscourge as well. Just to be safe. :P

They don't make people kill each other, but they allow people to kill each other very efficiently.

People are very impulsive. They don't always think things through. The readily available nature of some of these guns is definitely not a good thing. I still support the right of people to own guns, just not assault/automatics.

1) Assault weapons, as someone in this thread already mentioned, are bascially anything that looks "scary". Just because a gun doesn't look "scary" doesn't mean it won't kill you or have the same, if not greater effect on your body, than a "non-scary" weapon.

2) Automatic weapons are almost impossible to obtain legally. The Aurora shooter nor this shooter had automatic weapons.

I turned to Fox News and noticed that they don't have an ounce of coverage about this. Be sure that if this was a non-Christian shooting up a Christian Church, they would be covering this 24/7, hate Fox News

A semi-automatic assault weapon can very easily be turned into a full automatic.
