I don't know the gun homicides per year so I don't know if the assault weapon ban changed much (doubt it, it was a weak "ban" that, I don't think, made it harder to get any other guns), I don't know the guns per 100 persons, households with guns for all those years. Social events for those years...

Of course lots of things affect our homicide rate, but I don't think our policy of practically 'giving away' guns is of any 'help', I'd like to see 'reasonable' gun-control, an outright ban wont work, just like addicts trying to quit cold turkey. Some way of having 'red' flags. And we have cultural issues towards killing...

The assault weapons ban had literally nothing to due with homiciderate falling in the United States. It wrongly placed the title of assault rifle on any gun that looked scary. There is very little difference between a semi automatic AR-15 that fires a .223 and a Ruger Mini 14 that fires the same round. Under the assault weapons ban the AR-15 was banned simply because it looked scary.

Yeah, he only tells what one of the shooters did. Who knows what CNN did with the rest of his statement. Regardless, he said "One of the gunmen." Clearly there were others in his view. Like I said, I'm not going to debate why the police and other mainstream media are playing this off as another lone gunman scenario, but clearly that's not what the witnesses saw.

The assault weapons ban had literally nothing to due with homiciderate falling in the United States. It wrongly placed the title of assault rifle on any gun that looked scary. There is very little difference between a semi automatic AR-15 that fires a .223 and a Ruger Mini 14 that fires the same round. Under the assault weapons ban the AR-15 was banned simply because it looked scary.

In the 60's it(homicide) started at 5, climbed to a peak in the 80's of 10 and has fallen slowly to 4.7today; is basically all you can get from that.

People are generally against gun control because violent crime is falling on a nation wide level. I think most moderate gun owners would gladly accept nation wideregistration,background checks and even a required safety course (iffy). The reason none of these are gaining traction and the reason I don't support gun control is the fact that most gun control organizations are using reasonable regulation as a means to an end. They want to completely ban semi-automatic guns and heavily regulate whats left. Obviously that doesn't give moderate gun owners a whole lot of insentive to give an inch on the topic knowing that these organizations will use it to push for a foot.
