So now its more acceptable to be g@y than it is to be a christian?

[QUOTE="kingkong0124"] This is true. I also think there's a trend towards religion being on a more personal level rather than through congregations.

LJS9502_basic

lol lame damage control, peopel are going off religion because its rubbish, and how about you keep it on a personal level then if its the in thing?

Uh something showing dwindling attendance is not showing dwindling beliefs. It's what he presented. Period.

He presented nothing more then personal opinion, where as the other user actually posted figures. Also I fail to see why you are defending this guy he is a hardcore bigot who makes other religious people look bad.

[QUOTE="l4dak47"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"][QUOTE="l4dak47"] Nope. Again, I don't care. Not to mention that the religious people do the same.

No they don't all. Not everyone is the same. For instance.....if I used the atheists I've encountered in OT as a measure of all atheists...I'd consider all atheists to be deplorable, ignorant, intolerant bigots. But I know that's not true of all of them. Just a subset. And as such I form my opinion as to who the ignorant, intolerant bigots are due to the personality. Not a group.

Good for you. Meanwhile, I'll act like most religious people and keep generalizing.

Then I assume you also despise yourself for it.....

I'm not defending anyone. I am stating that what was presented does not state what he purports it to say. Period. I have no idea who he was even talking with TBH. That isn't my argument. But I don't like fallacious analogies.

Yeah, I agree, a lot of it is due to social issues due to poverty (like out of wedlock childbirth). You can still be a religious Christian w/o going to Church. It all depends on your viewpoint, really.

kingkong0124

Due to poverty, hunh?

Urm...I'm willing to bet most Christians in early period didn't have two coins to rub together.

Things like being born out of wedlock are associated with poverty...there are a variety of factors you have to take in to account. If anything, church attendance has gone up in recent years because of the economic crisis.

Oh, you're talking about people who only look to God when they need something, right? Yeah, I know people like that. I wouldn't for one moment consider them Christians.

Hey, on-topic: did you know God doesn't see your individual sins, just whether or not he knows you? So, if you have lustful thought toward women you aren't married to, he looks upon you the same as he would a homosexual, according to Biblical text.

You do realize that, right?

WHY YES, YES IT IS

being gay is acceptable, afaik they didn't choose to be born that way and they aren't harming anyone with their lifestyle

being christian has brought many wars, intolerance and people telling others what they can and can't do

if i have to choose between which of the two is more acceptable to me, is an easy choise

LJS9502_basic

Religion IN TOTAL and not Christianity has been important in 7% of wars. And IF you wish to consider yourself enlightened and tolerant then that means EVERYONE....not just those you choose. Otherwise you're just as much a bigot as those you point fingers at and a hypocrite besides.

you can call me w/e you want, i am tolerant with people who don't have a choise with their sexuality not with stupidity by choise.

The Chick-Fil-A CEO has the right to express his views no matter how stupid they are. Similarly people have the right to boycott an organization for whatever reason they like no matter how stupid they are.. People also have the right to (rightfully) call the Chick-Fil-A CEO a bigot on their facebook page. JML897

K, better.

No... Being Christian is still WAAAAYYYYYYY more acceptable than being gay What isn't acceptable is the use of religion to discriminate against others. If gays were using religion, or some other sort of ideology, to persecute and discriminate, it'd be just as bad. Unfortunately for you, TC, they are not.

I doubt that will ever be true in the U.S., unless you are someone who truly believes that part of being christian is restricting gay people's lives (not that you are).

OT has taught me that if you put a bunch of young liberal atheists in a same place you are doomed to get ridiculed and insulted if you don't fit in said category. With the different opinions I see here the only common ground I see here is that all of us are gamers (If you're not a gamer then what are you even doing on Gamespot in the first place?).

But I really disagree with any type of oppression against people who are outside of the norm (with the exception of such people as child rapists and other scum of the Earth). You can't get mad at someone for believing something different than you but when their belief is messing with your lifestyle I can see how a person will get pissed off.

Okay this whole Chick-Fil-A boycott controversy has got me thinking. Now I am a christian and I too believe in the biblical relationships between man and woman, I don't agree with the homosexual lifestyle. HOWEVER, I am not a bigot or a person that goes around gay bashing, in fact I have a family member that is gay My family is mostly made up of christians and we still love my gay family member but he knows we don't agree with his lifestyle. I know christians are getting a bad rap as being bigots etc but not all of us are the over the top crazy types. I hate the sin, not the person.Anyway, now Chick- Fil-A makes a statement standing by their beliefs and people act all offended. Its no secret that Chick is a christian owned company (hello, they are closed on Sundays) so I think its really dumb that people are boycotting them for their beliefs.

The media and lots of other people are calling the bigots and attacking their facebook page etc. Just because someone is a christian and beleives in what the bible says about marriage, that doesn't mean they are a hateful person. I mean we are still in America right? We aren't allowed to have freedom of religion anymore?? Its like if your not accepting homosexuality with open arms, you deemed a terrible person really. The way things are now, it will soon by a crime to have christian beliefs. It's just shocking to me........... So what do you think? Is it more acceptable to be homosexual than it is to be a christian in today's society?

djshowstopper87

1) The bible also says that marriage should only be your last resort if you can't deal with abstinence.

2) How does gay people being gay affect you?

3) Marriage is a legal contract. I see no problem with homophobic churches not marrying gay couples. But that is a spiritual contract. Gays want the legal one.

4) Chik fil a has every right to be as bigoted as they want. However everyone has the right to boycott them for being bigots.

No. Ideally people would shut the f*ck up about both. Instead the situation at the moment is religious types don't want gays to have equal rights because their book says gays are bad. People get outspoken about the religious types being dicks and then themselves become dicks. If Christians didn't shove their book down peoples throats and try to use it to justify laws then sensible people wouldn't have a problem with them and Christians could legit complain when people are dicks to them.

PonchoTaco

This has to be the fiftieth time that someone has said this, and this will make about the fiftieth time that it has been pointed out that it's not just him voicing his opinion, he's funding anti-gay groups with profits from his chain. I have to ask, are you not paying attention at all or are you just slow?

I have some bad news, dude. When several longtime members are calling you an idiot, it's because you are one. Not because they're trolling.

This has to be the fiftieth time that someone has said this, and this will make about the fiftieth time that it has been pointed out that it's not just him voicing his opinion, he's funding anti-gay groups with profits from his chain. I have to ask, are you not paying attention at all or are you just slow?

You mad, bro? I'm just saying that it was not a surprise to me that he was funding anti-gay groups.

it's unacceptable to use your religion to keep others from obtaining equality in society.

Do you also believe that polygamy, marriage to one's mother/father sister/brother, should be legal as well? There have always throughout the history of man kind been restrictions on those who could get married. The case with gay marriage is no different. If gays can get married then so also should relatives and polygamists be allowed to get married. All gay rights people are fighting for is the ability to file jointly on their taxes, that's all that government marriage is. Shouldn't we take this to the IRS instead? If gay's can file jointly on their taxes then they have equality in society. Seems to be a much easier fight to me. Christians are happy and gays are happy and we can all go on living our lives.

And like some other person pointed out, his restaurants only operate in 38 states so some people may have not even known they existed, much less were owned by an anti-gay fundamentalist.

Slippery slope! First they say we can't have guns, next thing you know I'm having a dinner party with the U.S. military in my home under martial law.
