While I think that our healthcare and education system is superior, I do think we lack the opportunities career wise which are far more readily available in the U.S.

Also we don't have mountain dew. Not the proper stuff anyway. Hmpff.

Yeah we do. Don't know where you got that from. Had some for breakfast this morning. Chocolate and Marshmallow flavor.

I'm talking about modern U.K..

BluRayHiDef

I can't tell if you're being serous or not...

I'm aware that the U.K. has military personnel stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan, and perhaps a few other countries, but I doubt it's as many as the United States. Furthermore, those in Iraq and Afghanistan are in those two countries because the U.S. duped the U.K. into providing assistance, so it's the U.S.'s fault. Furthermore, what recent wars has the U.K. started recently?

But you just said "The U.K. doesn't have a habit of sticking its nose in the business of other countries.":|

So your saying that they DON'T butt into other peoples countries....but they do....just not as much, as America? But they totally don't butt into someone elses country?:?

I've seen a lot of ridiculous posts in this thread about tax, including one guy who seemed to think that a person on minimum wage would be taxed 40%. If you're on minimum wage, you aren't taxed anything. The average tax rate for individuals in the UK is 20%. Yes, there is a higher maximum tax rate here than in the USA (40%) but that only applies to the country's top earners. Corporate and business tax is much lower here than it is in America. The only bad taxes i can think of are VAT (20%, dont know what it is in America) and taxes on cars/fuel to discourage people buying new cars due to global warming targets.

Obviously, you have never earned minimum wage here in the US. While tax cuts here in the US have lowered what those at the minimum wage end have to pay, It has been more over the years. If the US were to start to offer free medical care (not really free, but paid for by taxpayers) or free college tuition (again paid for by taxpayers), it would have to be paid for by someone and that even includes those making minimum wage.

As it is, you state that your income taxes are 20% but fail to include that national health care tax you have to pay with that. That boosts the amount of taxes you pay and are still paying for your own health care, even if you are paying it to your government instead of the your own doctor's office. Oh wait, do you get to choose which doctor you get to see as we here in the US do?

Yes you do pick the Docter/GP you want. You don't get assigned anyone unless your hospitalised. National Insuranceif you earn more than £146 a week and up to £817 a week, is 12% of the amount you earn between £146 and £817, ontop of the 20% income tax.

I'm afraid you're misinformed. There is no 'national healthcare tax'. You pay income tax, the average rate of which is 20%. That's it. Excluding all the usual taxes that everyone pays in most countries like VAT and the like. In terms of your income, there is no 'national healthcare tax'. I've no idea where you got that from. The NHS is funded just like any other aspect of government spending, it doesn't have its own special tax. It comes right out of your standard tax rate. And yes, you can choose your doctor.

Even if he is just confusing National Insurance for 'national healthcare tax', he'd still be wrong. National Insurance is just the British equivalent of social security, and functions in the exact same way.

As a British citizen living in the US, I would say the US. The UK seems great on paper, but when you actually live there, you realize that it isn't as great as it seems. Sure, we get free healthcare. But then there is a problem in the country with healthcare providers being too inefficient and slow (which is a complaint against implementing government controlled healthcare in the US). The gun laws are also ****. The only people with guns are criminals. Police officers and normal citizens can't fight back against criminals because they don't have guns. There are a lot of other issues with the UK, and obviously, there are tons of issues with the US too, but if I were to pick the best of the two, it would definitely be the US. I still love my home country though, and both countries are fantastic places to live. But I don't know a single Briton living here in the US that wants to move back.

While the UK does have some advantages, the US is still the better country. For one the US didn't ban guns like a bunch of pvssies, and we have the most variety here.

We have people from EVERY ethnicity here, we are a mix of multiple cultures, while the UK has some of this to a degree, it's not anywhere close to the same level as we do here. And this mixing of cultures and ethnic groups has made us the most powerful country in the world.

It's very hard for foreigners to understand, I see a lot of British people and Europeans in general that make political comments about the US. But the thing is they don't really understand it, the US political scene is on a whole different level than the ones you guys are used to.

There is a lot more power an influence involved here. On top of this we also have a lot more variety in politics, each state can be VERY different from the other and as a result they have different issues and values.

Though that being said, the Republican vs Democrat thing only seeks to divide us and is going to be the death of our country. Despite all our issues, we have more oppurtunity here than the UK.

English apple pie recipes go back to the time ofChaucer. The 1381 recipe (see illustration at right) lists the ingredients asgoodapples, goodspices, figs, raisinsandpears.Thecofynof the recipe is a casing of pastry.Saffronis used for colouring the pie filling.

In English speaking countries, apple pie is a dessert of enduring popularity, eaten hot or cold, on its own or withice cream, double cream, orcustard.

Guns are not banned in the UK. That is a common misconception. Guns are merely controlled. Roughly two million people own firearms in the UK (legal ones, that is). Also, the rest of your post was puerile garbage. Just sayin'

There were ads shown on American TV that said in the UK if the cost of your treatment is more than £20,000 you would be left to die. And another senator said that if he were in the UK in his condition, he would be left to die. Thankfully ads containing blatant political lies would never be allowed to air here, in the civilised world.

One thing though I am envious of UK of is their health care system. Here in the US we don't have a system like the NHS, and I wish we did to some degree. I don't know how good it actually works, but I can say this: Our health care system is broken in the US.

There is no denying this, many people go without treatment because they can't afford it (you can however still get treatment for emergency conditions, however even then people fall through the cracks).

I don't know what the best way to go about it is, and I'm curious as to see how it works over there. I have some money saved up, I might go there and see for myself. To bad I don't know anyone in the UK :(

Also I hear the UK and Europe as a whole is very anti semitic still, and as a person of Jewish Heritage I am a little nervous.

Guns are not banned in the UK. That is a common misconception. Guns are merely controlled. Roughly two million people own firearms in the UK (legal ones, that is). Also, the rest of your post was puerile garbage. Just sayin'

You can't carry concealed hand guns for personal defense like you can in the US. In fact you can't even own hand guns there period. This means you fail instantly.

A man who is gives up his right to bear arms gives up all his other rights as well.

And good job at countering my points there, you are one skilled debater.

Nope, it's English.

Alright, see below.

In English speaking countries, apple pie is a dessert of enduring popularity, eaten hot or cold, on its own or withice cream, double cream, orcustard.OmenUK
Well then. Philly Cheesesteak. Disprove that.

come back when you can name something that is as popular as apple pie, and i don't mean a big mac

Also I hear the UK and Europe as a whole is very anti semitic still, and as a person of Jewish Heritage I am a little nervous.

Are you trying to give people headaches through all the facepalms? Is that your goal?

I see European media sometimes, they often show very anti-Israeli stuff, which often times seems to give off an anti-semitic vibe. And when I play online sometimes I come across British People and they are always making racist jokes towards Jews and they say UK hates Jews and wants to expell them.

Not even the police carry guns. So what possible reason would you have for having one in self defence?

The police are allowed to carry guns. What do you think started the riots in England last year?

Threads like this just encourage ignorant people to parade their ignorance. You can get a license in the UK for both a handgun and a concealed weapon. "This means you fail instantly." No, this means you need to just stop posting because you have absolutely no idea what you're talking about.

I don't mind people thinking they live in the best country, i really don't. Some countries are obviously better than others. There is truly nothing worse than people who decide to jump on a horse and start telling others how inferior they are when they have *no effing clue* what they are talking about and absolutely no experience whatsoever of any of the nations they speak of other than their own.

Only certain police carry guns. They only get dispatched if they think a suspect may be armed.

Mexican, Chinese, Italian, you yanks have to steal food from other countries and claim it as your own lol

Tacos were invented by a white guy. Chow mein was invented by a Jewish American. Pizza was never Italian and was largely Americanized when we went all "deep-dish" on its ass.

Maybe that is because we have an independent media that is not ran by jewish people like you have int he united states, maybe it is also because unlike america we do not give tacit support to the isreali government all the time and can see they are not as innocent as they proclaim themselves to be.

Criminals have guns, they will ALWAYS have guns. They are CRIMINALS, they get them through the BLACK MARKET. Government bans guns, means YOU and other CIVILAINS can't buy guns, doesn't mean the CRIMINALS won't. They now knowing you don't have a way to defend yourself can now go and kill you more easy.

Why is this so hard to understand? Anti-Gun loonys are something else.

Obviously the US. The freedom to actually own handguns is a plus. There's no ridiculous VAT, and our food is better.
